Mott-Derived Local Moments and Kondo Hybridization in a d-electron Kagome lattice

Unlike canonical Kondo lattices in f-electron systems, where localized f orbitalsnaturally provide local moments, d-electron Kondo lattices require a distinct mechanism for local-moment formation. However, the study of d-electron Kondo lattices in bulk materials remains far from settled, particularly with regard to the microscopic origin of the local moments. Here, we report a microscopic mechanism for this process in the bilayer kagome metal CsCr6Sb6, where strong correlations drive a Mott splitting of the kagome flat band to supply the requisite local moments. By combining STM/STS and ARPES, we resolve a spectroscopic hierarchy between high-energy correlation effects and low temperature hybridization. Low-temperature STS reveals a robust asymmetric suppression of the density of states near EF that is well captured phenomenologically by a Fano-type lineshape, while ARPES detects a sharp quasiparticlepeak near EF. These low-energy signatures evolveon the same temperature scale and disappear upon warming, consistent with the onset of Kondo hybridization. At the same time, STS resolves symmetric humps at approximately +-50 mV and ARPES identifies a weakly dispersive feature around 50 meV below EF; unlike the near-EF hybridization signatures, these features persist to substantially higher temperatures. This separation of energy and temperature scales supports a two-stage picture in which a kagome flat band first undergoes correlation-driven splitting into lower and upper Hubbard bands, and the occupied lower Hubbard band supplies the local moments that later hybridize with itinerant electrons at lower temperature. Our results therefore move beyond the phenomenology of a kagome Kondo lattice candidate and instead provide a microscopic spectroscopic picture linking Mottness to Kondo hybridization in a frustrated d-electron system.

Electronic Structure and Superconducting Gap of HgBa$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{8+δ}$ Revealed by Laser-Based Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy

The spatially-resolved laser-based high resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements have been performed on the optimally-doped HgBa$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{8+δ}$ (Hg1223) superconductor with a $T_c$ at 133 K. Two distinct regions are identified on the cleaved surface: the single Fermi surface region where only one Fermi surface is observed, and the double Fermi surface region where two Fermi surface sheets are resolved coming from both the inner (IP) and outer (OP) CuO$_2$ planes. The electronic structure and superconducting gap are measured on both of these two regions. In both cases, the observed electronic states are mainly concentrated near the nodal region. The momentum dependence of superconducting gap deviates from the standard d-wave form. These results indicate that the surface electronic structure of Hg1223 behaves more like that of underdoped cuprates.

Negligible Normal Fluid in Superconducting State of Heavily Overdoped Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ Detected by Ultra-Low Temperature Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy

In high temperature cuprate superconductors, it was found that in the overdoped region the superfluid density decreases with the increase of hole doping. One natural question is whether there exists normal fluid in the superconducting state in the overdoped region. In this paper, we have carried out high-resolution ultra-low temperature laser-based angle-resolved photoemission measurements on a heavily overdoped Bi2212 sample with a $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ of 48 K. We find that this heavily overdoped Bi2212 remains in the strong coupling regime with $2 \mathitΔ_0 / k_{\mathrm{B}} T_{\mathrm{c}}=5.8$. The single-particle scattering rate is very small along the nodal direction ($\sim$5 meV) and increases as the momentum moves from the nodal to the antinodal regions. A hard superconducting gap opening is observed near the antinodal region with the spectral weight at the Fermi level fully suppressed to zero. The normal fluid is found to be negligibly small in the superconducting state of this heavily overdoped Bi2212. These results provide key information to understand the high $T_\mathrm{c}$ mechanism in the cuprate superconductors.

additive bases of abelian groups of rank 2

Let $G$ be a finite abelian group and $p$ be the smallest prime dividing $|G|$. Let $S$ be a sequence over $G$. We say that $S$ is regular if for every proper subgroup $H \subsetneq G$, $S$ contains at most $|H|-1$ terms from $H$. Let $\mathsf c_0(G)$ be the smallest integer $t$ such that every regular sequence $S$ over $G$ of length $|S|\geq t$ forms an additive basis of $G$, i.e., $\sum(S)=G$. The invariant $\mathsf c_0(G)$ was first studied by Olson and Peng in 1980's, and since then it has been determined for all finite abelian groups except for the groups with rank 2 and a few groups of rank 3 or 4 with order less than $10^8$. In this paper, we focus on the remaining case concerning groups of rank 2. It was conjectured by Gao et al. (Acta Arith. 168 (2015) 247-267) that $\mathsf c_0(G)=m(G)$. We confirm the conjecture for the case when $G=C_{n_1}\oplus C_{n_2}$ with $n_1|n_2$, $n_1\geq 2p$, $p\geq 3$ and $n_1n_2\geq 72p^6$.

Davenport constant of the multiplicative semigroup of the quotient ring $\frac{\F_p[x]}{\langle f(x)\rangle}$

Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite commutative semigroup. The Davenport constant of $\mathcal{S}$, denoted $D(\mathcal{S})$, is defined to be the least positive integer $d$ such that every sequence $T$ of elements in $\mathcal{S}$ of length at least $d$ contains a subsequence $T'$ with the sum of all terms from $T'$ equaling the sum of all terms from $T$. Let $\F_p[x]$ be a polynomial ring in one variable over the prime field $\F_p$, and let $f(x)\in \F_p[x]$. In this paper, we made a study of the Davenport constant of the multiplicative semigroup of the quotient ring $\frac{\F_p[x]}{\langle f(x)\rangle}$. Among other results, we mainly prove that, for any prime $p>2$ and any polynomial $f(x)\in \F_p[x]$ which can be factorized into several pairwise non-associted irreducible polynomials in $\F_p[x]$, then $$D(\mathcal{S}_{f(x)}^p)=D(U(\mathcal{S}_{f(x)}^p)),$$ where $\mathcal{S}_{f(x)}^p$ denotes the multiplicative semigroup of the quotient ring $\frac{\F_p[x]}{\langle f(x)\rangle}$ and $U(\mathcal{S}_{f(x)}^p)$ denotes the group of units of the semigroup $\mathcal{S}_{f(x)}^p$.

On The Critical Number of Finite Groups (II)

Let G be a finite group and S a subset of G\{0}. We call S an additive basis of G if every element of G can be expressed as a sum over a nonempty subset in some order. Let cr(G) be the smallest integer t such that every subset of G\{0} of cardinality t is an additive basis of G. In this paper, we determine cr(G) for the following cases: (i) G is a finite nilpotent group; (ii) G is a group of even order which possesses a subgroup of index 2.

Extremal incomplete sets in finite abelian groups

Let $G$ be a finite abelian group. The critical number ${\rm cr}(G)$ of $G$ is the least positive integer $\ell$ such that every subset $A\subseteq G\setminus\{0\}$ of cardinality at least $\ell$ spans $G$, i.e., every element of $G$ can be written as a nonempty sum of distinct elements of $A$. The exact values of the critical number have been completely determined recently for all finite abelian groups. The structure of these sets of cardinality ${\rm cr}(G)-1$ which fail to span $G$ has also been characterized except for the case that $|G|$ is an even number and the case that $|G|=pq$ with $p,q$ are primes. In this paper, we characterize these extremal subsets for $|G|\geq 36$ is an even number, or $|G|=pq$ with $p,q$ are primes and $q\geq 2p+3$.
