Bunch-by-Bunch Prediction of Beam Transverse Position, Phase, and Length in a Storage Ring Using Neural Networks

Real-time, bunch-by-bunch monitoring of transverse position, longitudinal phase, and bunch length is crucial for beam control in diffraction-limited storage rings, where complex collective dynamics pose unprecedented diagnostic challenges. This study presents a neural network framework that simultaneously predicts these parameters directly from beam position monitor waveforms. The hybrid architecture integrates specialized Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Long Short-Term Memory with Attention (LSTM-Attention) sub-networks, overcoming key limitations of traditional methods such as serial processing chains and batch-mode operation. Validated on experimental data from the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility and Hefei Light Source, the model achieves high prediction accuracy with a sub-millisecond latency of 0.042 ms per bunch. This performance demonstrates its potential as a core tool for real-time, multi-parameter diagnostics and active feedback in next-generation light sources.

Observation of a Topological Phase Transition in Random Coaxial Cable Structures with Chiral Symmetry

We report an experimental study of the disordered Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, implemented in a system of coaxial cables, whose radio frequency properties map on to the SSH Hamiltonian. By measuring multiple chains with random hopping terms, we demonstrate the presence of a topologically protected state, with frequency variation of less than 0.2% over the ensemble. Connecting the ends of the chains to form loops, we observe a topological phase transition, characterised by the closure of the band gap and the appearance of states which are delocalised, despite the strong disorder.

Electron and nuclear spin properties of the nanohole-filled GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dots

GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dots grown by in-situ droplet etching and nanohole infilling offer a combination of strong charge confinement, optical efficiency, and spatial symmetry required for polarization entanglement and spin-photon interface. Here we study spin properties of such dots. We find nearly vanishing electron $g$-factor ($g_e<0.05$), providing a route for electrically driven spin control schemes. Optical manipulation of the nuclear spin environment is demonstrated with nuclear spin polarization up to $60\%$ achieved. NMR spectroscopy reveals the structure of two types of quantum dots and yields the small magnitude of residual strain $ε_b<0.02\%$ which nevertheless leads to long nuclear spin lifetimes exceeding 1000 s. The stability of the nuclear spin environment is advantageous for applications in quantum information processing.
