HyLRA: Hybrid Layer Reuse Attention for Efficient Long-Context Inference

Long-context inference in Large Language Models (LLMs) is bottlenecked by the quadratic computation complexity of attention and the substantial memory footprint of Key-Value (KV) caches. While existing sparse attention mechanisms attempt to mitigate this by exploiting inherent sparsity, they often rely on rigid patterns or aggressive pruning, failing to achieve an optimal balance between efficiency and accuracy. In this paper, we introduce {\bf HyLRA} ({\bf Hy}brid {\bf L}ayer {\bf R}euse {\bf A}ttention), a novel framework driven by layer-wise sparsity profiling. Our empirical analysis uncovers a dual characteristic in attention mechanics: \textit{intra-layer sensitivity}, where specific layers necessitate full attention to prevent feature distortion, and \textit{inter-layer similarity}, where consecutive layers share substantial critical tokens. Based on these observations, HyLRA employs an offline dynamic programming approach to derive an optimal layer-wise policy. This hybrid strategy retains full attention for sensitive layers to ensure robustness, while enabling tolerant layers to bypass quadratic calculations by directly reusing top-$k$ indices from preceding layers. This approach allows LLMs to restrict computation to the most critical tokens, effectively overcoming the quadratic bottleneck of dense attention. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that HyLRA improves inference throughput by 6\%--46\% while maintaining comparable performance (with $<1\%$ accuracy degradation), consistently outperforming state-of-the-art sparse attention methods. $La_3Pd_2NaO_9$: A High-Valent Insulating Palladate

A high-valent palladate, $La_3Pd_2NaO_9$, has been synthesized for the first time. Single crystals with dimensions of 20 ${\mu}$m on edge were successfully grown using the flux method at 420 $^o$C and 70 bar oxygen pressure. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP) measurements show that the atomic ratio of La: (Pd+Na) is 3: 3 and Pd: Na is 2: 1. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements show that the oxidation state of Pd is dominated by +4. Synchrotron X-ray single-crystal diffraction measurements revealed that this material crystallizes in the monoclinic $P2_1/c$ space group with charge ordering of Na and Pd. Real-space imaging via scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) confirmed the crystal structure and revealed excellent sample homogeneity. Electrical resistivity measurements show an insulating behavior. Magnetic measurements show an unexpected paramagnetic behavior, which probably originate from a small fraction of high-spin Pd$^{2+}$ evidenced by XPS. The successful growth of $La_3Pd_2NaO_9$ single crystals with a high-valent oxidation state of Pd offers an approach for exploring interesting palladates, including potential bilayer Ruddlesden-Popper palladates analogous to the high temperature superconducting $La_3Ni_2O_7$.

dMAPAR-HMM: Reforming Traffic Model for Improving Performance Bound with Stochastic Network Calculus

A popular branch of stochastic network calculus (SNC) utilizes moment-generating functions (MGFs) to characterize arrivals and services, which enables end-to-end performance analysis. However, existing traffic models for SNC cannot effectively represent the complicated nature of real-world network traffic such as dramatic burstiness. To conquer this challenge, we propose an adaptive spatial-temporal traffic model: dMAPAR-HMM. Specifically, we model the temporal on-off switching process as a dual Markovian arrival process (dMAP) and the arrivals during the on phases as an autoregressive hidden Markov model (AR-HMM). The dMAPAR-HMM model fits in with the MGF-SNC analysis framework, unifies various state-of-the-art arrival models, and matches real-world data more closely. We perform extensive experiments with real-world traces under different network topologies and utilization levels. Experimental results show that dMAPAR-HMM significantly outperforms prevailing models in MGF-SNC.

BABD: A Bitcoin Address Behavior Dataset for Pattern Analysis

Cryptocurrencies are no longer just the preferred option for cybercriminal activities on darknets, due to the increasing adoption in mainstream applications. This is partly due to the transparency associated with the underpinning ledgers, where any individual can access the record of a transaction record on the public ledger. In this paper, we build a dataset comprising Bitcoin transactions between 12 July 2019 and 26 May 2021. This dataset (hereafter referred to as BABD-13) contains 13 types of Bitcoin addresses, 5 categories of indicators with 148 features, and 544,462 labeled data, which is the largest labeled Bitcoin address behavior dataset publicly available to our knowledge. We then use our proposed dataset on common machine learning models, namely: k-nearest neighbors algorithm, decision tree, random forest, multilayer perceptron, and XGBoost. The results show that the accuracy rates of these machine learning models for the multi-classification task on our proposed dataset are between 93.24% and 97.13%. We also analyze the proposed features and their relationships from the experiments, and propose a k-hop subgraph generation algorithm to extract a k-hop subgraph from the entire Bitcoin transaction graph constructed by the directed heterogeneous multigraph starting from a specific Bitcoin address node (e.g., a known transaction associated with a criminal investigation). Besides, we initially analyze the behavior patterns of different types of Bitcoin addresses according to the extracted features.

Multi-scale super-resolution generation of low-resolution scanned pathological images

Background. Digital pathology has aroused widespread interest in modern pathology. The key of digitalization is to scan the whole slide image (WSI) at high magnification. The lager the magnification is, the richer details WSI will provide, but the scanning time is longer and the file size of obtained is larger. Methods. We design a strategy to scan slides with low resolution (5X) and a super-resolution method is proposed to restore the image details when in diagnosis. The method is based on a multi-scale generative adversarial network, which sequentially generates three high-resolution images such as 10X, 20X and 40X. Results. The peak-signal-to-noise-ratio of 10X to 40X generated images are 24.16, 22.27 and 20.44, and the structural-similarity-index are 0.845, 0.680 and 0.512, which are better than other super-resolution networks. Visual scoring average and standard deviation from three pathologists is 3.63 plus-minus 0.52, 3.70 plus-minus 0.57 and 3.74 plus-minus 0.56 and the p value of analysis of variance is 0.37, indicating that generated images include sufficient information for diagnosis. The average value of Kappa test is 0.99, meaning the diagnosis of generated images is highly consistent with that of the real images. Conclusion. This proposed method can generate high-quality 10X, 20X, 40X images from 5X images at the same time, in which the time and storage costs of digitalization can be effectively reduced up to 1/64 of the previous costs. The proposed method provides a better alternative for low-cost storage, faster image share of digital pathology. Keywords. Digital pathology; Super-resolution; Low resolution scanning; Low cost

Entity Profiling in Knowledge Graphs

Knowledge Graphs (KGs) are graph-structured knowledge bases storing factual information about real-world entities. Understanding the uniqueness of each entity is crucial to the analyzing, sharing, and reusing of KGs. Traditional profiling technologies encompass a vast array of methods to find distinctive features in various applications, which can help to differentiate entities in the process of human understanding of KGs. In this work, we present a novel profiling approach to identify distinctive entity features. The distinctiveness of features is carefully measured by a HAS model, which is a scalable representation learning model to produce a multi-pattern entity embedding. We fully evaluate the quality of entity profiles generated from real KGs. The results show that our approach facilitates human understanding of entities in KGs.
