Distributionally Robust Insurance under Bregman-Wasserstein Divergence

This paper investigates two optimal insurance contracting problems under distributional uncertainty from the perspective of a potential policyholder, utilizing a Bregman-Wasserstein (BW) ball to characterize the ambiguity set of loss distributions. Unlike the $p$-Wasserstein distance, BW divergence enables asymmetric penalization of deviations from the benchmark distribution. The first problem examines an insurance demand model where the policyholder adopts an $\alpha$-maxmin preference with Value-at-Risk (VaR). We derive the optimal indemnity function in closed form and study, both analytically and numerically, how the asymmetry inherent in BW divergence influences the optimal indemnity structure. The second problem employs a robust optimization framework, where the policyholder aims to secure robust insurance indemnity by minimizing the worst-case convex distortion risk measure while adhering to a guaranteed VaR constraint. In this context, we provide explicit characterizations of both the optimal indemnity and the worst-case distribution in closed form through a combined approach using the Lagrangian method and modification arguments. To illustrate the practical implications of our theoretical findings, we include a concrete example based on Tail Value-at-Risk (TVaR).

On the Stability of Spatially Distributed Cavity Laser and Boundary of Resonant Beam SLIPT

Spatially distributed cavity (SDC) lasers are a promising technology for simultaneous light information and power transfer (SLIPT), offering benefits such as increased mobility and intrinsic safety, which are advantageous for various Internet of Things (IoT) devices. \mll However, achieving beam transmission over meter-level long working distances presents significant challenges from cavity stability constraints, manufacturing/assembly tolerances, and diffraction losses\mrr. This paper conducts a theoretical investigation of the fundamental restrictions limiting long-range resonant beam generation. We investigate cavity stability and beam characteristics, and propose a binary-search-based Monte Carlo simulation algorithm as well as a linear approximation algorithm to quantify the maximum acceptable tolerances for stable operation. \mll Numerical results indicate that the stable region contracts sharply as distance increases. For fixed-component systems, an acceptable tolerance of 0.01 mm restricts the achievable transmission distance to less than 2 m. \mrr To address this limitation, we also prove the feasibility of long-range beam formation using precision adjustable elements, paving the way for advanced engineering applications. \mll Experimental results verified this assumption, demonstrating that by tuning the stable region during assembly, the transmission distance could be extended to 2.8 m. \mrr This work provides essential theoretical insights and practical design guidelines for realizing stable, long-range SDC systems.

Anharmonicity-driven phonon avoided crossing and anomalous thermal transport in nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS

Understanding thermal and electrical transport in topological materials is essential for advancing their applications in quantum technologies and energy conversion. Herein, we employ first-principles calculations to systematically investigate phonon and charge transport in the prototypical nodal-line semimetal ZrSiS. The results unveil that anharmonic phonon renormalization results in the pronounced softening of heat-carrying phonons and suppressed lattice thermal conductivity ($\kappa_{\rm L}$). Crucially, anharmonic effects are found to noticeably weaken Zr-S interactions, triggering avoided-crossing behavior of low-frequency optical phonons. The combination of phonon softening and avoided crossing synergistically reduces phonon group velocities, yielding a 16\% suppression in $\kappa_{\rm L}$ along the $c$-axis at room temperature. Contrary to conventional metals, we discover that the lattice contribution to thermal conductivity in ZrSiS is abnormally large, even dominating heat conduction along the $c$-axis. This unusual behavior results in a substantial deviation of the Lorenz number from the Sommerfeld value -- exceeding it by up to threefold -- thereby challenging the validation of standard Wiedemann-Franz law for thermal conductivity estimation. Moreover, our calculations demonstrate that ZrSiS exhibits exceptional electrical conductivity, attributed to its topological electronic Dirac states that account for both high Fermi velocities and weak electron-phonon coupling. This study provides critical insights into the electrical and thermal transport mechanisms in ZrSiS and highlights the importance of anharmonic effects in the lattice dynamics and thermal transport of metallic materials.

Open-Source Full-Duplex Conversational Datasets for Natural and Interactive Speech Synthesis

Full-duplex, spontaneous conversational data are essential for enhancing the naturalness and interactivity of synthesized speech in conversational TTS systems. We present two open-source dual-track conversational speech datasets, one in Chinese and one in English, designed to enhance the naturalness of synthesized speech by providing more realistic conversational data. The two datasets contain a total of 15 hours of natural, spontaneous conversations recorded in isolated rooms, which produces separate high-quality audio tracks for each speaker. The conversations cover diverse daily topics and domains, capturing realistic interaction patterns including frequent overlaps, backchannel responses, laughter, and other non-verbal vocalizations. We introduce the data collection procedure, transcription and annotation methods. We demonstrate the utility of these corpora by fine-tuning a baseline TTS model with the proposed datasets. The fine-tuned TTS model achieves higher subjective and objective evaluation metrics compared to the baseline, indicating improved naturalness and conversational realism in synthetic speech. All data, annotations, and supporting code for fine-tuning and evaluation are made available to facilitate further research in conversational speech synthesis.

Resonant Beam Multi-Target DOA Estimation

With the increasing demand for internet of things (IoT) applications, especially for location-based services, how to locate passive mobile targets (MTs) with minimal beam control has become a challenge. Resonant beam systems are considered promising IoT technologies with advantages such as beam self-alignment and energy concentration. To establish a resonant system in the radio frequency (RF) band and achieve multi-target localization, this paper designs a multi-target resonant system architecture, allowing a single base station (BS) to independently connect with multiple MTs. By employing a retro-directive array, a multi-channel cyclic model is established to realize one-to-many electromagnetic wave propagation and MT direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation through echo resonance. Simulation results show that the proposed system supports resonant establishment between the BS and multiple MTs. This helps the BS to still have high DOA estimation accuracy in the face of multiple passive MTs, and can ensure that the DOA error is less than 1 degree within a range of 6 meters at a 50degree field of view, with higher accuracy than active beamforming localization systems.

Roth-type Theorem for high-power system in Piatetski-Shapiro primes (II)

We consider the nonlinear system $c_1p_1^d +c_2p_2^d + \dots + c_s p_s^d = 0$ with $c_1, c_2,\dots, c_s\in\mathbb Z$ being nonzero and satisfying $c_1 +c_2 + \dots + c_s = 0$. We show that for $s\ge 2\lfloor \frac{d^2}2\rfloor+1$ and $c\in\left(1, 1+c(d,s)\right)$, if the system has only $K$-trivial solutions in subset $\mathcal{A}$ of Piatetski-Shapiro primes up to $x$ and corresponding to $c$, then $|\mathcal{A}| \ll \frac{x^{\frac1c}}{\log x} $$\left(\log \log \log \log x\right)^{\frac{2-s}{dc}+\varepsilon}$.

The Conversational Short-phrase Speaker Diarization (CSSD) Task: Dataset, Evaluation Metric and Baselines

The conversation scenario is one of the most important and most challenging scenarios for speech processing technologies because people in conversation respond to each other in a casual style. Detecting the speech activities of each person in a conversation is vital to downstream tasks, like natural language processing, machine translation, etc. People refer to the detection technology of "who speak when" as speaker diarization (SD). Traditionally, diarization error rate (DER) has been used as the standard evaluation metric of SD systems for a long time. However, DER fails to give enough importance to short conversational phrases, which are short but important on the semantic level. Also, a carefully and accurately manually-annotated testing dataset suitable for evaluating the conversational SD technologies is still unavailable in the speech community. In this paper, we design and describe the Conversational Short-phrases Speaker Diarization (CSSD) task, which consists of training and testing datasets, evaluation metric and baselines. In the dataset aspect, despite the previously open-sourced 180-hour conversational MagicData-RAMC dataset, we prepare an individual 20-hour conversational speech test dataset with carefully and artificially verified speakers timestamps annotations for the CSSD task. In the metric aspect, we design the new conversational DER (CDER) evaluation metric, which calculates the SD accuracy at the utterance level. In the baseline aspect, we adopt a commonly used method: Variational Bayes HMM x-vector system, as the baseline of the CSSD task. Our evaluation metric is publicly available at https://github.com/SpeechClub/CDER_Metric.

Long-Range Optical Wireless Information and Power Transfer

Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is a remarkable technology to support both the data and the energy transfer in the era of Internet of Things (IoT). In this paper, we proposed a long-range optical wireless information and power transfer system utilizing retro-reflectors, a gain medium, a telescope internal modulator to form the resonant beam, achieving high-power and high-rate SWIPT. We adopt the transfer matrix, which can depict the beam modulated, resonator stability, transmission loss, and beam distribution. Then, we provide a model for energy harvesting and data receiving, which can evaluate the SWIPT performance. Numerical results illustrate that the proposed system can simultaneously supply 0$\sim$9 W electrical power and 18 bit/s/Hz spectral efficiency over 20 m distance.

Adaptive Distributed Laser Charging for Efficient Wireless Power Transfer

Distributed laser charging (DLC) is a wireless power transfer technology for mobile electronics. Similar to traditional wireless charging systems, the DLC system can only provide constant power to charge a battery. However, Li-ion battery needs dynamic input current and voltage, thus power, in order to optimize battery charging performance. Therefore, neither power transmission efficiency nor battery charging performance can be optimized by the DLC system. We at first propose an adaptive DLC (ADLC) system to optimize wireless power transfer efficiency and battery charging performance. Then, we analyze ADLC's power conversion to depict the adaptation mechanism. Finally, we evaluate the ADLC's power conversion performance by simulation, which illustrates its efficiency improvement by saving at least 60.4% of energy, comparing with the fixed-power charging system.

Lightweight Mask R-CNN for Long-Range Wireless Power Transfer Systems

Resonant Beam Charging (RBC) is a wireless charging technology which supports multi-watt power transfer over meter-level distance. The features of safety, mobility and simultaneous charging capability enable RBC to charge multiple mobile devices safely at the same time. To detect the devices that need to be charged, a Mask R-CNN based dection model is proposed in previous work. However, considering the constraints of the RBC system, it's not easy to apply Mask R-CNN in lightweight hardware-embedded devices because of its heavy model and huge computation. Thus, we propose a machine learning detection approach which provides a lighter and faster model based on traditional Mask R-CNN. The proposed approach makes the object detection much easier to be transplanted on mobile devices and reduce the burden of hardware computation. By adjusting the structure of the backbone and the head part of Mask R-CNN, we reduce the average detection time from $1.02\mbox{s}$ per image to $0.6132\mbox{s}$, and reduce the model size from $245\mbox{MB}$ to $47.1\mbox{MB}$. The improved model is much more suitable for the application in the RBC system.

Distributed Laser Charging: A Wireless Power Transfer Approach

Wireless power transfer (WPT) is a promising solution to provide convenient and perpetual energy supplies to electronics. Traditional WPT technologies face the challenge of providing Watt-level power over meter-level distance for Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile devices, such as sensors, controllers, smart-phones, laptops, etc.. Distributed laser charging (DLC), a new WPT alternative, has the potential to solve these problems and enable WPT with the similar experience as WiFi communications. In this paper, we present a multi-module DLC system model, in order to illustrate its physical fundamentals and mathematical formula. This analytical modeling enables the evaluation of power conversion or transmission for each individual module, considering the impacts of laser wavelength, transmission attenuation and photovoltaic-cell (PV-cell) temperature. Based on the linear approximation of electricity-to-laser and laser-to-electricity power conversion validated by measurement and simulation, we derive the maximum power transmission efficiency in closed-form. Thus, we demonstrate the variation of the maximum power transmission efficiency depending on the supply power at the transmitter, laser wavelength, transmission distance, and PV-cell temperature. Similar to the maximization of information transmission capacity in wireless information transfer (WIT), the maximization of the power transmission efficiency is equally important in WPT. Therefore, this work not only provides the insight of DLC in theory, but also offers the guideline of DLC system design in practice.

Optimal Resonant Beam Charging for Electronic Vehicles in Internet of Intelligent Vehicles

To enable electric vehicles (EVs) to access to the internet of intelligent vehicles (IoIV), charging EVs wirelessly anytime and anywhere becomes an urgent need. The resonant beam charging (RBC) technology can provide high-power and long-range wireless energy for EVs. However, the RBC system is unefficient. To improve the RBC power transmission efficiency, the adaptive resonant beam charging (ARBC) technology was introduced. In this paper, after analyzing the modular model of the ARBC system, we obtain the closed-form formula of the end-to-end power transmission efficiency. Then, we prove that the optimal power transmission efficiency uniquely exists. Moreover, we analyze the relationships among the optimal power transmission efficiency, the source power, the output power, and the beam transmission efficiency, which provide the guidelines for the optimal ARBC system design and implementation. Hence, perpetual energy can be supplied to EVs in IoIV virtually.

Fair Scheduling in Resonant Beam Charging for IoT Devices

Resonant Beam Charging (RBC) is the Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology, which can provide high-power, long-distance, mobile, and safe wireless charging for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Supporting multiple IoT devices charging simultaneously is a significant feature of the RBC system. To optimize the multi-user charging performance, the transmitting power should be scheduled for charging all IoT devices simultaneously. In order to keep all IoT devices working as long as possible for fairness, we propose the First Access First Charge (FAFC) scheduling algorithm. Then, we formulate the scheduling parameters quantitatively for algorithm implementation. Finally, we analyze the performance of FAFC scheduling algorithm considering the impacts of the receiver number, the transmitting power and the charging time. Based on the analysis, we summarize the methods of improving the WPT performance for multiple IoT devices, which include limiting the receiver number, increasing the transmitting power, prolonging the charging time and improving the single-user's charging efficiency. The FAFC scheduling algorithm design and analysis provide a fair WPT solution for the multi-user RBC system.

Adaptive Resonant Beam Charging for Intelligent Wireless Power Transfer

As a long-range high-power wireless power transfer (WPT) technology, resonant beam charging (RBC) can transmit Watt-level power over long distance for the devices in the internet of things (IoT). Due to its open-loop architecture, RBC faces the challenge of providing dynamic current and voltage to optimize battery charging performance. In RBC, battery overcharge may cause energy waste, thermal effects, and even safety issues. On the other hand, battery undercharge may lead to charging time extension and significant battery capacity reduction. In this paper, we present an adaptive resonant beam charging (ARBC) system for battery charging optimization. Based on RBC, ARBC uses a feedback system to control the supplied power dynamically according to the battery preferred charging values. Moreover, in order to transform the received current and voltage to match the battery preferred charging values, ARBC adopts a direct current to direct current (DC-DC) conversion circuit. Relying on the analytical models for RBC power transmission, we obtain the end-to-end power transfer relationship in the approximate linear closed-form of ARBC. Thus, the battery preferred charging power at the receiver can be mapped to the supplied power at the transmitter for feedback control. Numerical evaluation demonstrates that ARBC can save 61% battery charging energy and 53%-60% supplied energy compared with RBC. Furthermore, ARBC has high energy-saving gain over RBC when the WPT is unefficient. ARBC in WPT is similar to link adaption in wireless communications. Both of them play the important roles in their respective areas.
