Optimal controls of stochastic differential equations with jumps and random coefficients: Stochastic Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations with jumps

In this paper, we study the following nonlinear backward stochastic integral partial differential equation with jumps \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{split} -d V(t,x) =&\displaystyle\inf_{u\in U}\bigg\{H(t,x,u, DV(t,x),D Φ(t,x), D^2 V(t,x),\int_E \left(\mathcal I V(t,e,x,u)+Ψ(t,x+g(t,e,x,u))\right)l(t,e)ν(de)) \\ &+\displaystyle\int_{E}\big[\mathcal I V(t,e,x,u)-\displaystyle (g(t, e,x,u), D V(t,x))\big]ν(d e)+\int_{E}\big[\mathcal I Ψ(t,e,x,u)\big]ν(d e)\bigg\}dt\\ &-Φ(t,x)dW(t)-\displaystyle\int_{E} Ψ(t, e,x)\tildeμ(d e,dt),\\ V(T,x)=& \ h(x), \end{split} \right. \end{equation*} where $\tilde μ$ is a Poisson random martingale measure, $W$ is a Brownian motion, and $\mathcal I$ is a non-local operator to be specified later. The function $H$ is a given random mapping, which arises from a corresponding non-Markovian optimal control problem. This equation appears as the stochastic Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, which characterizes the value function of the optimal control problem with a recursive utility cost functional. The solution to the equation is a predictable triplet of random fields $(V,Φ,Ψ)$. We show that the value function, under some regularity assumptions, is the solution to the stochastic HJB equation; and a classical solution to this equation is the value function and gives the optimal control. With some additional assumptions on the coefficients, an existence and uniqueness result in the sense of Sobolev space is shown by recasting the backward stochastic partial integral differential equation with jumps as a backward stochastic evolution equation in Hilbert spaces with Poisson jumps.

The OpenFlexure Block Stage: Sub-100 nm fibre alignment with a monolithic plastic flexure stage

As 3D printers become more widely available, researchers are able to rapidly produce components that may have previously taken weeks to have machined. The resulting plastic components, having high surface roughness, are often not suitable for high-precision optomechanics. However, by playing to the strengths of 3D printing---namely the ability to print complex internal geometries---it is possible to design monolithic mechanisms that do not rely on tight integration of high-precision parts. Here we present a motorised monolithic 3D-printed plastic flexure stage with sub-100 nm resolution, that can perform automated optical fibre alignment.

A global maximum principle for optimal control of general mean-field forward-backward stochastic systems with jumps

In this paper we prove a necessary condition of the optimal control problem for a class of general mean-field forward-backward stochastic systems with jumps in the case where the diffusion coefficients depend on control, the control set does not need to be convex, the coefficients of jump terms are independent of control as well as the coefficients of mean-field backward stochastic differential equations depend on the joint law of $(X(t),Y(t))$. Two new adjoint equations are brought in as well as several new generic estimates of their solutions are investigated for analysing the higher terms, especially, those involving the expectation which come from the derivatives of the coefficients with respect to the measure. Utilizing these subtle estimates, the second-order expansion of the cost functional, which is the key point to analyse the necessary condition, is obtained, and whereafter the stochastic maximum principle.

Global maximum principle for mean-field forward-backward stochastic systems with delay and application to finance

The purpose of this paper is to explore the necessary conditions for optimality of mean-field forward-backward delay control systems. A new estimate is proved, which is a powerfultool to deal with the optimal control problems of mean-field type with delay. Different from the classical situation, in our case the first-order adjoint system is an anticipated mean-field backward stochastic differential equation, and the second-order adjoint system is a system of matrix-valued process, not mean-field type. With the help of two adjoint systems, the second-order expansion of the variation of the state $Y$ is proved, and therewith the Peng's stochastic maximum principle. As an illustrative example, we apply our result to the mean-field game in Finance. Although we just investigate the case of one pointwise delay for convenience, but our method is adequate for analysing the case of pointwise delay.

Backward Stochastic Riccati Equation with Jumps associated with Stochastic Linear Quadratic Optimal Control with Jumps and Random Coefficients

In this paper, we investigate the solvability of matrix valued Backward stochastic Riccati equations with jumps (BSREJ), which is associated with a stochastic linear quadratic (SLQ) optimal control problem with random coefficients and driven by both Brownian motion and Poisson jumps. By dynamic programming principle, Doob-Meyer decomposition and inverse flow technique, the existence and uniqueness of the solution for the BSREJ is established. The difficulties addressed to this issue not only are brought from the high nonlinearity of the generator of the BSREJ like the case driven only by Brownian motion, but also from that i) the inverse flow of the controlled linear stochastic differential equation driven by Poisson jumps may not exist without additional technical condition, and ii) how to show the inverse matrix term involving jump process in the generator is well-defined. Utilizing the structure of the optimal problem, we overcome these difficulties and establish the existence of the solution. In additional, a verification theorem for BSREJ is given which implies the uniqueness of the solution.

Second-Order Necessary Conditions for Optimal Control with Recursive Utilities

The necessary conditions for an optimal control of a stochastic control problem with recursive utilities is investigated. The first order condition is the the well-known Pontryagin type maximum principle. When the optimal control satisfying such first-order necessary condition is singular in some sense, certain type of the second-order necessary condition will come in naturally. The aim of this paper is to explore such kind of conditions for our optimal control problem.

Optimal Control of Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential System of Jump Diffusion with Observation Noise: Stochastic Maximum Principle

This paper is concerned with the partial information optimal control problem of wa controlled forward-backward stochastic differential equation of jump diffusion with correlated noises between the system and the observation. For this type of partial information optimal control problem, Necessary and sufficient optimality conditions, in the form of Pontryagin maximum principle, for the partial information optimal control are established using a unified way. Moreover, our admissible control process $u(\cdot)$ satisfies the following integrable condition condition: \begin{equation*} \label{eq:1.16} \mathbb E\bigg[\int_0^T|u(t)|^4 dt\bigg]<\infty, \end{equation*}

Maximum Principle of Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential System of Mean-Field Type with Observation Noise

This paper is concerned with the partial information optimal control problem of mean-field type under partial observation, where the system is given by a controlled mean-field forward-backward stochastic differential equation with correlated noises between the system and the observation, moreover the observation coefficients may depend not only on the control process and but also on its probability distribution. Under standard assumptions on the coefficients, necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality of the control problem in the form of Pontryagin's maximum principles are established in a unified way.

Partial Information Stochastic Differential Games for Backward Stochastic Systems Driven By Lévy Processes

In this paper, we consider a partial information two-person zero-sum stochastic differential game problem where the system is governed by a backward stochastic differential equation driven by Teugels martingales associated with a Lévy process and an independent Brownian motion. One sufficient (a verification theorem) and one necessary conditions for the existence of optimal controls are proved. To illustrate the general results, a linear quadratic stochastic differential game problem is discussed.

Partial Information Near-Optimal Control of Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential System with Observation Noise

This paper first makes an attempt to investigate the partial information near optimal control of systems governed by forward-backward stochastic differential equations with observation noise under the assumption of a convex control domain. By Ekeland's variational principle and some basic estimates for state processes and adjoint processes, we establish the necessary conditions for any $\varepsilon $-near optimal control in a local form with an error order of exact $\varepsilon ^{% \frac{1}{2}}.$ Moreover, under additional convexity conditions on Hamiltonian function, we prove that an $\varepsilon $-maximum condition in terms of the Hamiltonian in the integral form is sufficient for near-optimality.

A Revisit to Optimal Control of Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential System with Observation Noise

This paper revisits the partial information optimal control problem considered by Wang, Wu and Xiong [Wang et al 2013], where the system is derived by a controlled forward-backward stochastic differential equation with correlated noises between the system and the observation. For this type of partial information optimal control problem, one necessary and one suffcient (a verification theorem) conditions of optimality are derived using a unified way. We improve the $L^p-$ bounds on the control from $L^8$ in [Want et al 2013] to $L^4$ in this paper.

By means of Ekland variational principle, combining the convex variation method and the duality technique, necessary conditions for optimality are derived in the form of stochastic maximum principles.

Stochastic Evolution Equation Driven by Teugels Martingale and Its Optimal Control

The paper is concerned with a class of stochastic evolution equations in Hilbert space with random coefficients driven by Teugel's martingales and an independent multi-dimensional Brownian motion and its optimal control problem. Here Teugels martingales are a family of pairwise strongly orthonormal martingales associated with Lévy processes (see Nualart and Schoutens). There are three major ingredients. The first is to prove the existence and uniqueness of the solutions by continuous dependence theorem of solutions combining with the parameter extension method. The second is to establish the stochastic maximum principle and verification theorem for our optimal control problem by the classic convex variation method and dual technique. The third is to represent an example of a Cauchy problem for a controlled stochastic partial differential equation driven by Teugels martingales which our theoretical results can solve.

On the existence of optimal controls for backward stochastic partial differential equations

This paper is concerned with the existence of optimal controls for backward stochastic partial differential equations with random coefficients, in which the control systems are represented in an abstract evolution form, i.e. backward stochastic evolution equations. Under some growth and monotonicity conditions on the coefficients and suitable assumptions on the Hamiltonian function, the existence of the optimal control boils down to proving the uniqueness and existence of a solution to the stochastic Hamiltonian system, i.e. a fully coupled forward-backward stochastic evolution equation. Using some a prior estimates, we prove the uniqueness and existence via the method of continuation. Two examples of linear-quadratic control are solved to demonstrate our results.

Linear-Quadratic Optimal Control Problems for Mean-Field Backward Stochastic Differential Equations with Jumps

This paper is concerned with a linear quadratic (LQ, for short) optimal control problem for mean-field backward stochastic differential equations (MF-BSDE, for short) driven by a Poisson random martingale measure and a Brownian motion. Firstly, by the classic convex variation principle, the existence and uniqueness of the optimal control is established. Secondly, the optimal control is characterized by the stochastic Hamilton system which turns out to be a linear fully coupled mean-field forward-backward stochastic differential equation with jumps by the duality method. Thirdly, in terms of a decoupling technique, the stochastic Hamilton system is decoupled by introducing two Riccati equations and a MF-BSDE with jumps. Then an explicit representation for the optimal control is obtained.

Partially Observed Optimal Control for Mean-Field SDEs

In this paper, we are concerned with a stochastic optimal control problem of mean-field type under partial observation, where the state equation is governed by the controlled nonlinear mean-field stochastic differential equation, moreover the observation noise is allowed to enter into the state equation and the observation coefficients may depend not only on the control process and but also on its probability distribution. Under standard assumptions on the coefficients, by dual analysis and convex variation, we establish the maximum principle for optimal control in a strong sense as well as a weak one, respectively. As an application, a partially observed linear quadratic control problem of mean-field type is studied detailed and the corresponding dual characterization and state feedback presentation of the partially observed optimal control are obtained by the stochastic maximum principles and the classic technique of completing squares.
