PsychJail: Exploring Psychological Jailbreaks via Multi-Turn Persuasion of LLM Policies

Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed in education, healthcare, policy advising, and other interactive settings, where users engage them as sustained social interlocutors rather than one-shot query engines. This shift makes jailbreaks a growing safety threat, yet most research emphasizes single-turn prompt optimization or iterative attack refinement, leaving psychologically grounded multi-turn vulnerabilities underexplored. We present PsychJail, a psychology-guided framework for red teaming aligned LLMs through theory-grounded, multi-turn persuasion. PsychJail maps established social-psychological persuasion techniques into a tactic-conditioned attack policy. It factorizes each attacker action into a Change-of-Meaning analysis, tactic selection, and victim-visible message, operationalizing the Persuasion Knowledge Model (PKM). The policy is refined with trajectory-level reinforcement learning using a PKM-gated reward that credits early jailbreak success only when every turn contains a well-formed Change-of-Meaning analysis. Across four aligned victim models, PsychJail achieves the highest average attack success rate (87.3%) and outperforms strong single-turn and multi-turn baselines on every model. We also measure susceptibility at the action that breaks each victim, revealing four distinct model-level fingerprints that identify which persuasion levers affect each model and how broadly. These fingerprints help explain cross-model transfer asymmetry. We interpret them as four candidate psychological profiles-rationalist, credibility-driven, narrative-monoculture, and broadly persuadable-while treating this interpretation as a conjecture requiring future validation. Our findings establish psychological jailbreaks as a distinct red-teaming frontier for increasingly interactive LLMs.

A Construction of $C^{r}$ Conforming Finite Elements on the Alfeld Split in Any Dimension

Constructing $C^r$ conforming finite element spaces in any dimension is a long-standing problem. For general triangulations, this problem was recently addressed by Hu-Lin-Wu (2024), under certain conditions on supersmoothness and polynomial degree. In this paper, a first unified construction on the Alfeld split in any dimension is given, where the supersmoothness conditions and the polynomial degree requirement are relaxed.

AT 2024wpp: the most luminous fast-evolving optical transient linked to the merger explosion of a black-hole binary

Fast blue optical transients (FBOTs) represent one of the most exotic astrophysical transients, exhibiting unusually strong emission across X-ray, optical, and radio wavelengths. Their physical origins remain highly debated, with proposed explanations ranging from stellar explosion to tidal disruption event (TDE). Here we report observations of the most luminous FBOT, AT 2024wpp whose post-peak luminosity rebrightens in X ray and becomes flattening in optical in a manner follows the decay rate characteristic of TDEs ($L_{\rm bol} \propto t^{-5/3}$). This invokes energy contribution of accretion by a central compact object, getting further corroborations from hardening of X-ray spectral index and detection of outflow inferred from the emission lines at similar phase. Detailed modeling of luminsoity evolution favors a coalesce explosion of a 34 M$_{\odot}$ Wolf-Rayet star with a 15 M$_{\odot}$ black hole (BH), demonstrating that some FBOTs may be associated with TDE of a stellar blackhole.

Vectra: A New Metric, Dataset, and Model for Visual Quality Assessment in E-Commerce In-Image Machine Translation

In-Image Machine Translation (IIMT) powers cross-border e-commerce product listings; existing research focuses on machine translation evaluation, while visual rendering quality is critical for user engagement. When facing context-dense product imagery and multimodal defects, current reference-based methods (e.g., SSIM, FID) lack explainability, while model-as-judge approaches lack domain-grounded, fine-grained reward signals. To bridge this gap, we introduce Vectra, to the best of our knowledge, the first reference-free, MLLM-driven visual quality assessment framework for e-commerce IIMT. Vectra comprises three components: (1) Vectra Score, a multidimensional quality metric system that decomposes visual quality into 14 interpretable dimensions, with spatially-aware Defect Area Ratio (DAR) quantification to reduce annotation ambiguity; (2) Vectra Dataset, constructed from 1.1M real-world product images via diversity-aware sampling, comprising a 2K benchmark for system evaluation, 30K reasoning-based annotations for instruction tuning, and 3.5K expert-labeled preferences for alignment and evaluation; and (3) Vectra Model, a 4B-parameter MLLM that generates both quantitative scores and diagnostic reasoning. Experiments demonstrate that Vectra achieves state-of-the-art correlation with human rankings, and our model outperforms leading MLLMs, including GPT-5 and Gemini-3, in scoring performance. The dataset and model will be released upon acceptance.

Auto-Augmentation Contrastive Learning for Wearable-based Human Activity Recognition

For low-semantic sensor signals from human activity recognition (HAR), contrastive learning (CL) is essential to implement novel applications or generic models without manual annotation, which is a high-performance self-supervised learning (SSL) method. However, CL relies heavily on data augmentation for pairwise comparisons. Especially for low semantic data in the HAR area, conducting good performance augmentation strategies in pretext tasks still rely on manual attempts lacking generalizability and flexibility. To reduce the augmentation burden, we propose an end-to-end auto-augmentation contrastive learning (AutoCL) method for wearable-based HAR. AutoCL is based on a Siamese network architecture that shares the parameters of the backbone and with a generator embedded to learn auto-augmentation. AutoCL trains the generator based on the representation in the latent space to overcome the disturbances caused by noise and redundant information in raw sensor data. The architecture empirical study indicates the effectiveness of this design. Furthermore, we propose a stop-gradient design and correlation reduction strategy in AutoCL to enhance encoder representation learning. Extensive experiments based on four wide-used HAR datasets demonstrate that the proposed AutoCL method significantly improves recognition accuracy compared with other SOTA methods.

The sharpness condition for constructing a finite element from a superspline

This paper addresses sharpness conditions for constructing $C^r$ conforming finite element spaces from a superspline spaces on general simplicial triangulations. We introduce the concept of extendability for the pre-element spaces, which encompasses both the superspline spaces and the finite element spaces. By examining the extendability condition for both types of spaces, we provide an answer to the conditions regarding the construction. A corollary of our results is that constructing $C^r$ conforming elements in $d$ dimensions generally requires an extra $C^{2^{s}r}$ continuity on $s$-codimensional simplices, and the polynomial degree is at least $(2^d r + 1)$.

Methodological Explainability Evaluation of an Interpretable Deep Learning Model for Post-Hepatectomy Liver Failure Prediction Incorporating Counterfactual Explanations and Layerwise Relevance Propagation: A Prospective In Silico Trial

Artificial intelligence (AI)-based decision support systems have demonstrated value in predicting post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, they often lack transparency, and the impact of model explanations on clinicians' decisions has not been thoroughly evaluated. Building on prior research, we developed a variational autoencoder-multilayer perceptron (VAE-MLP) model for preoperative PHLF prediction. This model integrated counterfactuals and layerwise relevance propagation (LRP) to provide insights into its decision-making mechanism. Additionally, we proposed a methodological framework for evaluating the explainability of AI systems. This framework includes qualitative and quantitative assessments of explanations against recognized biomarkers, usability evaluations, and an in silico clinical trial. Our evaluations demonstrated that the model's explanation correlated with established biomarkers and exhibited high usability at both the case and system levels. Furthermore, results from the three-track in silico clinical trial showed that clinicians' prediction accuracy and confidence increased when AI explanations were provided.

A Construction of $C^r$ Conforming Finite Element Spaces in Any Dimension

This paper proposes a construction of $C^r$ conforming finite element spaces with arbitrary $r$ in any dimension. It is shown that if $k \ge 2^{d}r+1$ the space $\mathcal P_k$ of polynomials of degree $\le k$ can be taken as the shape function space of $C^r$ finite element spaces in $d$ dimensions. This is the first work on constructing such $C^r$ conforming finite elements in any dimension in a unified way. It solves a long-standing open problem in finite element methods.

Exploring the dark matter inelastic frontier with 79.6 days of PandaX-II data

We report here the results of searching for inelastic scattering of dark matter (initial and final state dark matter particles differ by a small mass splitting) with nucleon with the first 79.6-day of PandaX-II data (Run 9). We set the upper limits for the spin independent WIMP-nucleon scattering cross section up to a mass splitting of 300 keV/c$^2$ at two benchmark dark matter masses of 1 and 10 TeV/c$^2$.

Beta-Ag2Te: A topological insulator with strong anisotropy

We present evidence of topological surface states in beta-Ag2Te through first-principles calculations and periodic quantum interference effect in single crystalline nanoribbon. Our first-principles calculations show that beta-Ag2Te is a topological insulator with a gapless Dirac cone with strong anisotropy. To experimentally probe the topological surface state, we synthesized high quality beta-Ag2Te nanoribbons and performed electron transport measurements. The coexistence of pronounced Aharonov-Bohm oscillations and weak Altshuler-Aronov-Spivak oscillations clearly demonstrates coherent electron transport around the perimeter of beta-Ag2Te nanoribbon and therefore the existence of metallic surface states, which is further supported by the temperature dependence of resistivity for beta-Ag2Te nanoribbons with different cross section areas. Highly anisotropic topological surface state of beta-Ag2Te suggests that the material is a promising material for fundamental study and future spintronic devices.
