VeriQBench: A Benchmark for Multiple Types of Quantum Circuits

In this paper, we introduce VeriQBench -- an open source benchmark for quantum circuits. It offers high-level quantum circuit abstractions of various circuit types, including 1) combinational, 2) dynamic, 3) sequential, and 4) variational quantum circuits, which cover almost all existing types of quantum circuits in the literature. Meanwhile, VeriQBench is a versatile benchmark which can be used in verifying quantum software for different applications, as is evidenced by the existing works including quantum circuit verification (e.g., equivalence checking [Hon+21a; WLY21] and model checking [Yin21]), simulation (e.g., fault simulation), testing (e.g., test pattern generation [CY22]) and debugging (e.g., runtime assertions [Li+20b]). All the circuits are described in OpenQASM and are validated on Qiskit and QCOR simulators. With the hope that it can be used by other researchers, VeriQBench is released at: https://github.com/Veri-Q/Benchmark.

Observation of the out-of-plane polarized spin current from CVD grown WTe2

Weyl semimetal Td-phase WTe2 possesses the spin-resolved band structure with strong spin-orbit coupling, holding promises as a useful spin source material. The noncentrosymmetric crystalline structure of Td-WTe2 endows the generation of the out-of-plane polarized spin, which is of great interest in magnetic memory applications. Previously, WTe2 was explored in spin devices based on mechanically exfoliated single crystal flakes with a size of micrometers. For practical spintronics applications, it is highly desirable to implement wafer-scale thin films. In this work, we utilize centimeter-scale chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-grown Td-WTe2 thin films and study the spin current generation by the spin torque ferromagnetic resonance technique. We find the in-plane and out-of-plane spin conductivities of 7.36 x 10^3 (h/2e) (ohm-m)^-1 and 1.76 x 10^3 (h/2e) (ohm-m)^-1, respectively, in CVD-growth 5 nm-WTe2. We further demonstrate the current-induced magnetization switching in WTe2/NiFe at room temperature in the domain wall motion regime, which may invigorate potential spintronic device innovations based on Weyl semimetals.

An HHL-Based Algorithm for Computing Hitting Probabilities of Quantum Random Walks

We present a novel application of the HHL (Harrow-Hassidim-Lloyd) algorithm -- a quantum algorithm solving systems of linear equations -- in solving an open problem about quantum random walks, namely computing hitting (or absorption) probabilities of a general (not only Hadamard) one-dimensional quantum random walks with two absorbing boundaries. This is achieved by a simple observation that the problem of computing hitting probabilities of quantum random walks can be reduced to inverting a matrix. Then a quantum algorithm with the HHL algorithm as a subroutine is developed for solving the problem, which is faster than the known classical algorithms by numerical experiments.

Hybrid Beamforming for mmWave MU-MISO Systems Exploiting Multi-agent Deep Reinforcement Learning

In this letter, we investigate the hybrid beamforming based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for millimeter Wave (mmWave) multi-user (MU) multiple-input-single-output (MISO) system. A multi-agent DRL method is proposed to solve the exploration efficiency problem in DRL. In the proposed method, prioritized replay buffer and more informative reward are applied to accelerate the convergence. Simulation results show that the proposed architecture achieves higher spectral efficiency and less time consumption than the benchmarks, thus is more suitable for practical applications.

PrecoderNet: Hybrid Beamforming for Millimeter Wave Systems with Deep Reinforcement Learning

In this letter, we investigate the hybrid beamforming for millimeter wave massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL). Imperfect channel state information (CSI) is assumed to be available at the base station (BS). To achieve high spectral efficiency with low time consumption, we propose a novel DRL-based method called PrecoderNet to design the digital precoder and analog combiner. The DRL agent takes the digital beamformer and analog combiner of the previous learning iteration as state, and these matrices of current learning iteration as action. Simulation results demonstrate that the PrecoderNet performs well in spectral efficiency, bit error rate (BER), as well as time consumption, and is robust to the CSI imperfection.

Improving Positive Unlabeled Learning: Practical AUL Estimation and New Training Method for Extremely Imbalanced Data Sets

Positive Unlabeled (PU) learning is widely used in many applications, where a binary classifier is trained on the datasets consisting of only positive and unlabeled samples. In this paper, we improve PU learning over state-of-the-art from two aspects. Firstly, existing model evaluation methods for PU learning requires ground truth of unlabeled samples, which is unlikely to be obtained in practice. In order to release this restriction, we propose an asymptotic unbiased practical AUL (area under the lift) estimation method, which makes use of raw PU data without prior knowledge of unlabeled samples. Secondly, we propose ProbTagging, a new training method for extremely imbalanced data sets, where the number of unlabeled samples is hundreds or thousands of times that of positive samples. ProbTagging introduces probability into the aggregation method. Specifically, each unlabeled sample is tagged positive or negative with the probability calculated based on the similarity to its positive neighbors. Based on this, multiple data sets are generated to train different models, which are then combined into an ensemble model. Compared to state-of-the-art work, the experimental results show that ProbTagging can increase the AUC by up to 10%, based on three industrial and two artificial PU data sets.

Prioritized Guidance for Efficient Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Exploration

Exploration efficiency is a challenging problem in multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), as the policy learned by confederate MARL depends on the collaborative approach among multiple agents. Another important problem is the less informative reward restricts the learning speed of MARL compared with the informative label in supervised learning. In this work, we leverage on a novel communication method to guide MARL to accelerate exploration and propose a predictive network to forecast the reward of current state-action pair and use the guidance learned by the predictive network to modify the reward function. An improved prioritized experience replay is employed to better take advantage of the different knowledge learned by different agents which utilizes Time-difference (TD) error more effectively. Experimental results demonstrates that the proposed algorithm outperforms existing methods in cooperative multi-agent environments. We remark that this algorithm can be extended to supervised learning to speed up its training.

Nonlinear magnetotransport shaped by Fermi surface topology and convexity in WTe2

The nature of Fermi surface defines the physical properties of conductors and many physical phenomena can be traced to its shape. Although the recent discovery of a current-dependent nonlinear magnetoresistance in spin-polarized non-magnetic materials has attracted considerable attention in spintronics, correlations between this phenomenon and the underlying fermiology remain unexplored. Here, we report the observation of nonlinear magnetoresistance at room temperature in a semimetal WTe2, with an interesting temperature-driven inversion. Theoretical calculations reproduce the nonlinear transport measurements and allow us to attribute the inversion to temperature-induced changes in Fermi surface convexity. We also report a large anisotropy of nonlinear magnetoresistance in WTe2, due to its low symmetry of Fermi surfaces. The good agreement between experiments and theoretical modeling reveals the critical role of Fermi surface topology and convexity on the nonlinear magneto-response. These results lay a new path to explore ramifications of distinct fermiology for nonlinear transport in condensed-matter.

Room-temperature nanoseconds spin relaxation in WTe2 and MoTe2 thin films

The Weyl semimetal WTe2 and MoTe2 show great potential in generating large spin currents since they possess topologically-protected spin-polarized states and can carry a very large current density. In addition, the intrinsic noncentrosymmetry of WTe2 and MoTe2 endows with a unique property of crystal symmetry-controlled spin-orbit torques. An important question to be answered for developing spintronic devices is how spins relax in WTe2 and MoTe2. Here, we report a room-temperature spin relaxation time of 1.2 ns (0.4 ns) in WTe2 (MoTe2) thin film using the time-resolved Kerr rotation (TRKR). Based on ab initio calculation, we identify a mechanism of long-lived spin polarization resulting from a large spin splitting around the bottom of the conduction band, low electron-hole recombination rate and suppression of backscattering required by time-reversal and lattice symmetry operation. In addition, we find the spin polarization is firmly pinned along the strong internal out-of-plane magnetic field induced by large spin splitting. Our work provides an insight into the physical origin of long-lived spin polarization in Weyl semimetals which could be useful to manipulate spins for a long time at room temperature.
