Regge poles, grey body factors, and absorption cross sections for black hole metrics with discontinuity

It was recently proposed by Rosato {\it et al.} and Oshita {\it et al.} that black hole greybody factors, as stable observables at relatively high frequencies, are more relevant quantities than quasinormal modes in modeling ringdown spectral amplitudes. It was argued that the overall contributions of spectrally unstable quasinormal modes conspire to produce stable observables through collective interference effects. In this regard, the present study investigates the Regge poles, the underlying quantities of the greybody factor governed by the singularities in the complex angular momentum plane, for perturbed black hole metrics. To this end, we generalize the matrix method to evaluate the Regge poles in black hole metrics with discontinuities. To verify our approach, the numerical results are compared with those obtained using a modified version of the continued fraction method. The obtained Regge pole spectrum is then used to calculate the scattering amplitude and cross-section. We show that the stability of these observables at moderate frequencies can be readily interpreted in terms of the stability of the Regge pole spectrum, particularly the low-lying modes. Nonetheless, destabilization still occurs at higher frequencies, characterized by the emergence of a bifurcation in the spectrum. The latter further evolves, leading to more significant deformation in the Regge poles, triggered by ultraviolet metric perturbations moving further away from the black hole. However, based on the validity of the WKB approximation, it is argued that such an instability in the spectrum is not expected to cause significant observable implications.

Stationary scalar clouds around a rotating BTZ-like black hole in the Einstein-bumblebee gravity

We have studied stationary clouds of massive scalar fields around a rotating BTZ-like black hole in the Einstein-bumblebee gravity, by imposing the Robin type boundary conditions at the AdS boundary. We establish, by scanning the parameter space, the existence of \textit{fundamental} stationary scalar clouds ($i.e.$, the overtone number $n=0$). In particular, we observe that the Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter $s$ and the quantum number $k$ play an opposite role in determining scalar clouds, which indicates the existence of \textit{degenerate} scalar clouds. To illustrate the fact that scalar clouds may only be supported for the $n=0$ case, we have analyzed the impact of various parameters on scalar quasinormal modes. It is shown that the Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter $s$ does not change the superradiance condition, and superradiant instabilities only appear for the fundamental modes. Our work shows that the Lorentz symmetry breaking provides richer physics in stationary scalar clouds around black holes.

Observational appearances of an inner extremal regular black hole illuminated by various accretion flows

This paper investigates the observational appearances of an inner extremal regular black hole(IERBH) illuminated by various types of accretion models. The study reveals that when the BH is illuminated by specific accretion flows, the effects of quantum gravity become more pronounced, significantly impacting key observational features such as the shadow radius, photon ring, and total observed intensity. Specifically, the introduction of a more realistic radially infalling spherical accretion flow further accentuates these differences. This dynamic flow results in a darker central region in the BH image due to the Doppler effect, which modulates the observed intensity based on the relative motion of the infalling matter. The shadow radius and total observed intensity are notably affected by the quantum correction parameters, providing additional signatures that distinguish regular BHs from their classical counterparts.

Precessions of spherical orbits in the rotating Melvin black hole spacetime and its constraints from the jet of M87*

We investigate precessions of spherical orbits of timelike particles in the background of a rotating black hole immersed in the Melvin magnetic field, and probe effects of the magnetic field on the precession period. Our results show that effects of the magnetic field on the particles' motions gradually decrease with the titled angle and finally vanish as the titled angle tends to $π/2$. With the increase of the magnetic field parameter, we find that the precession becomes rapidly. Modelling the spherical orbit to the warp radius in the accretion disk and with the observed precession period from the jet of M87*, we analyze the allowed regions of the black hole parameters and the warp radius in the accretion disk. Especially, we find a novel degenerated phenomenon of precession periods arising from magnetic field for two different spherical orbits, which does not appear in the usual Kerr black hole case. Moreover, we also discuss the possibility of observing effects of the magnetic field on the precession periods of jets for astrophysical black holes. Our study could help to further understand the rotating Melvin black hole and the relationship between magnetic fields and precessions of jets.

Chaotic motion of particles in the spacetime of a Kerr black hole immersed in swirling universes

We investigate the motion of particles in the spacetime of a Kerr black hole immersed in swirling universes. Using the Poincaré section, fast Lyapunov exponent indicator, bifurcation diagram and basins of attraction, we present the effects of the swirling parameter and the spin parameter on the dynamical behaviors of the motion of particles, and confirm the presence of chaos in the motion of particles in this background spacetime. We find that the swirling parameter can change the range of the spin parameter where the chaos occurs, and vice versa. Moreover, we observe clearly that, regardless of the spin parameter, there exist some self-similar fractal fine structures in the basins boundaries of attractors for the spacetime of a black hole immersed in swirling universes. The combination the swirling parameter and the spin parameter provides richer physics in the motion of particles.

Spontaneous scalarization of Bardeen black holes

We study the spontaneous scalarization of Bardeen black holes, whose tachyonic instability triggers the formation of scalarized charged black holes (SCBHs). In this case, we find infinite ($n=0,1,2,\cdots$) branches of SCBHs with magnetic charge $g$. The $n = 0$ branch of SCBHs can be found for the coupling parameter $α\geq α_{n=0}(g)$ with both quadratic (1-$αφ^2$) and exponential ($e^{-αφ^2}$) couplings, where $α_{n=0}(g)$ represents the threshold of tachyonic instability for the Bardeen black holes. Furthermore, it is shown that the $n = 0$ branch for both couplings is stable against radial perturbations. This stability shows that this branch can be used for further observational implications.

Charged dilatonic black holes in dilaton-massive gravity

In this paper, we focus on massive Einstein-dilaton gravity including the coupling of dilaton scalar field to massive graviton terms, and then derive static and spherically symmetric solutions of charged dilatonic black holes in four dimensional spacetime. We find that the dilatonic black hole could possess different horizon structures for some suitably parameters. Then, we also investigate the thermodynamic properties of charged dilatonic black holes where $f(r)$ approaches $+\infty$ and $-\infty$, respectively.

Gravitational waves from extreme mass ratio inspirals in Kerr-MOG spacetimes

This work elaborates on a detailed analysis of the novel characteristics of gravitational waves (GWs) generated by extreme mass ratio inspirals (EMRIs) within the framework of modified gravity (MOG). Our study begins by exploring the geometrical and dynamical properties of the Kerr-MOG spacetime. We employ the numerical kludge (NK) method for waveform simulations and reveal that the parameter $α$, representing deviations from general relativity (GR), significantly impacts the frequencies of geodesic orbits and, consequently, the EMRI waveforms. However, the waveform confusion problem remains mainly unresolved, posing a challenge in distinguishing between the underlying gravitational theories based on the observed EMRI waveforms. Notably, by incorporating the effects of radiation reaction, we observe a substantial reduction in the waveform overlap over time. This reduction could enhance our ability to discern between different waveforms over an extended period.

Late-time tail and echoes of Damour-Solodukhin wormholes

Damour-Solodukhin wormholes are intriguing theoretical constructs, closely mimicking many properties of black holes. This study delves into two distinct characteristics of the waveforms emitted from such wormholes, namely, the late-time tails and echoes, which can substantially be used to distinguish its identity. Notably, both features appear in the latter stages of quasinormal oscillations and stem from the singularities of the Green's function. The late-time tail, on the one hand, arises due to the branch cuts in the relevant Green's function. Within the Damour-Solodukhin wormhole paradigm, singularities are present in both ingoing and outgoing waveforms, which entails a generalization of the existing recipe for black hole metrics. On the other hand, the echoes are attributed to a new set of quasinormal poles, supplementing those of the respective black holes, reminiscent of the scenario where the spacetime metric possesses a discontinuity. It is inferred that both features are observationally relevant in distinguishing a wormhole from its black hole counterpart. Moreover, we suggest a potential interplay concerning the late-time evolution between the two mechanisms in question.

Black holes in massive Einstein-dilaton gravity

In this paper, we focus on massive Einstein-dilaton gravity including the coupling of dilaton scalar field to massive graviton terms, and then derive static and spherically symmetric solutions of dilatonic black holes in four dimensional spacetime. We find that the dilatonic black hole could possess two horizons (event and cosmological), extreme (Nariai) and naked singularity for the suitably fixed parameters. In addition, we investigate thermodynamic properties of these dilatonic black holes, and check the corresponding first law of black hole thermodynamics. Extending to the massive Einstein-dilaton gravity in high dimensions, we further obtain the dilatonic black hole solutions in $(d+1)$ dimensional spacetime.

Quasinormal modes of a regular black hole with sub-Planckian curvature

This paper explores the properties of the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a regular black hole(BH) characterized by a Minkowski core and sub-Planckian curvature. When focusing on a special case, this regular BH exhibits identical large-scale behavior with the Hayward BH and some loop quantum gravity corrected (LQG-corrected) BH. A notable characteristic of the QNMs in this regular BH is the pronounced outburst of overtones when compared to the Schwarzschild BH (SS-BH). This outburst can be attributed to the deviation from the SS-BH in the near-horizon geometry region due to the quantum gravity effect. Furthermore, we compare the QNM properties of the regular BH with those of the Hayward BH and the LQG-corrected BH. A similar phenomenon of overtone outburst is observed in the modes of the overtone. As a conclusion, the QNMs may be a powerful tool for detecting the quantum gravity effect and distinguishing different BH models.

Geometrically thick equilibrium tori around a Schwarzschild black hole in swirling universes

We study geometrically thick non-self gravitating equilibrium tori orbiting a Schwarzschild black hole immersed in swirling universes. This solution is axially symmetric and non-asymptotically flat, and its north and south hemispheres spin in opposite directions. Due to repulsive effects arising from the swirl of the background spacetime, the equilibrium torus exists only in the case with the small swirling parameter. With the increase of the swirling parameter, the disk structure becomes small and the excretion of matter near the black hole becomes strong. Moreover, the odd $Z_2$ symmetry of spacetimes originating from the swirling parameter yields that the orientation of closed equipotential surfaces deviates away from the horizontal axis and the corresponding disk does not longer possess the symmetry with respect to the equatorial plane. These significant features could help to further understand the equilibrium tori and geometrically thick accretion disks around black holes in swirling universes.

Page Curves in Holographic Superconductors

Considering a doubly holographic model, we study the black hole information paradox for the eternal AdSd-RN black hole coupled to and in equilibrium with a d-dimensional conformal bath whose state has been deformed by the charged scalar field coupled to a U(1) gauge field. Without a brane, the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the gauge field on boundary systems can induce a second-order phase transition of the charged scalar field at the critical temperature, known as holographic superconductors. The bath deformation can significantly change its entanglement dynamics with the black hole, resulting in variations in the Page curve and Page time. Our results indicate that characteristic parameters of the Page curve, such as entanglement velocity, initial area difference and Page time, can be used as suitable probes to detect superconducting phase transitions. In particular, the entanglement velocity can also probe both Kasner flows and Josephson oscillations. When keeping the endpoint of the radiation region fixed at twice the critical Page point, the entanglement velocity (the internal backreaction) has a more significant influence on the Page time compared to the initial area difference (the external backreaction).

Quasinormal modes of a scalar perturbation around a rotating BTZ-like black hole in Einstein-bumblebee gravity

We analytically study the quasinormal modes of a scalar perturbation around a rotating BTZ-like black hole in the Einstein-bumblebee gravity. We observe that the Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter imprints only in the imaginary parts of the quasinormal frequencies for the right-moving and left-moving modes. The perturbational field decays more rapidly for the negative Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter, but more slowly for the positive one. The forms of the real parts are the same as those in the usual BTZ black holes. Moreover, we also discuss the $AdS/CFT$ correspondence from the quasinormal modes and find that the Lorentz symmetry breaking parameter enhances the left and right conformal weights $h_L$ and $h_R$ of the operators dual to the scalar field in the boundary. These results could be helpful to understand the $AdS/CFT$ correspondence and the Einstein-bumblebee gravity with the Lorentz symmetry violation.

Chaotic motion of scalar particle coupling to Chern-Simons invariant in the stationary axisymmetric Einstein-Maxwell dilaton black hole spacetime

We investigate the motion of a test scalar particle coupling to the Chern-Simons (CS) invariant in the background of a stationary axisymmetric black hole in the Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton-Axion (EMDA) gravity. Comparing with the case of a Kerr black hole, we observe that the presence of the dilation parameter makes the CS invariant more complex, and changes the range of the coupling parameter and the spin parameter where the chaotic motion appears for the scalar particle. Moreover, we find that the coupling parameter together with the spin parameter also affects the range of the dilation parameter where the chaos occurs. We also probe the effects of the dilation parameter on the chaotic strength of the chaotic orbits for the coupled particle. Our results indicate that the coupling between the CS invariant and the scalar particle yields the richer dynamical behavior of the particle in the rotating EMDA black hole spacetime.

Holographic entanglement entropy and subregion complexity for excited states of holographic superconductors

We investigate the holographic entanglement entropy (HEE) and the holographic subregion complexity (HSC) for holographic superconductors, both in the Einstein and in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravitational theories. For both ground and excited states, we show that, in the Einstein gravity, the HSC decreases as the temperature increases and the normal phase has a smaller HSC than the superconducting phase, which is opposite to the behavior of the HEE. Moreover, we find out that, for a given temperature $T$ in the superconducting phase, the higher excited state leads to a lager value of the HEE but a smaller value of the HSC. However, the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity has significantly different effect on the HSC, while the HEE always increases monotonously as the temperature increases and its value in the normal phase always larger than that in the superconducting phase. Our results indicate that the HEE and HSC provide richer physics in phase transitions and condensation of scalar hair for holographic superconductors with excited states.

Holographic superfluid with excited states

We construct a novel family of solutions of the holographic superfluid model with the excited states in the probe limit. We observe that the higher excited state or larger superfluid velocity will make the scalar hair more difficult to be developed, and the higher excited state or smaller mass of the scalar field makes it easier for the emergence of translating point from the second-order transition to the first-order one. We note that the difference of the critical chemical potential between the consecutive states increases as the superfluid velocity increases. Interestingly, the "Cave of Winds" phase structure will disappear but the first-order phase transition occurs for the excited states, which is completely different from the holographic superfluid model with the ground state. This means that the excited state will hinder the appearance of the Cave of Winds. Moreover, we find that there exist additional poles in Im[$σ(ω)$] and delta functions in Re[$σ(ω)$] arising at low temperature for the excited states, and the higher excited state or larger superfluid velocity results in the larger deviation from the expected relation in the gap frequency.

The holographic s+p model in 4D and 5D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We study the holographic s+p model in both four dimensional (4D) and five dimensional (5D) Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. We first show a phase diagram with the Gauss-Bonnet parameter fixed to a small value $α=10^{-7}$ to choose propitiate values of $q_p/q_s$. Then we fix the value of $q_p/q_s$ and plot $α-μ$ phase diagrams to show the influence of Gauss-Bonnet term on the phase transitions in both 4D and 5D bulk, respectively. The phase diagrams in 4D and 5D present the same qualitative features, indicating similarity of 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with the 5D case in holography. We also study the influences of Gauss-Bonnet parameter on the special values of the fourth order nonlinear term parameters $λ_s$ and $λ_p$, below which the condensate grows to a different direction near the critical point, that is important in realizing 1st order superfluid phase transitions. Especially, we notice that these special values are different in the canonical and grand canonical ensembles, which is closely related to the study of the spinodal region, where the phase separations occurs with the linear instability at finite wave vector.
