Design and simulation of the High-Energy Proton Beam Telescope

A high-resolution beam telescope is essential for the precise characterization of silicon pixel sensors. As part of the CSNS-II upgrade project, a High-Energy Proton Beam Telescope (HEPTel) based on monolithic active pixel sensors (MAPS) has been designed for the forthcoming High-Energy Proton Experimental Station (HPES), which will provide 0.8 to 1.6 GeV single-particle proton beams. HEPTel consists of six ultra-thin telescope modules, with a material budget per module of about 0.061% X0. Simulated with a 1.6 GeV proton beam, the telescope is expected to achieve a resolution of about 1.83 micrometers. Additionally, a dedicated readout electronics system and a Data Acquisition (DAQ) system have been designed for HEPTel, based on which a preliminary test system was established for beam tests. The beam test results with 1.3 GeV electrons demonstrated a single-module resolution of about 5.77 micrometers, an overall telescope resolution of about 2.70 micrometers, and a detection efficiency above 99.5%. These results validate the HEPTel design and confirm its capability for forthcoming proton-beam experiments at HPES.

A hybrid structure gaseous detector for ion backflow suppression*

A new concept for a hybrid structure gaseous detector module with ion backflow suppression for the time projection chamber in a future circular collider is presented. It is a hybrid structure cascaded Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) with a Micromegas detector. Both Micromegas and GEM have the capability to naturally reduce most of the ions produced in the amplification region. The GEM also acts as the preamplifer device and increases gas gain together with the Micromegas. Feasibility tests of the hybrid detector are performed using an ${}^{55}$Fe X-ray source. The energy resolution is better than 27% for 5.9 keV X-rays. It is demonstrated that a backflow ratio better than 0.2% can be reached in the hybrid readout structure at a gain of 5000.

Development of a two-dimensional imaging GEM detector using the resistive anode readout method with $6\times6$ cells

We report the application of the resistive anode readout method on a two dimensional imaging GEM detector. The resistive anode consists of $6\times6$ cells with the cell size $6~\mathrm{mm}\times6~\mathrm{mm}$. New electronics and DAQ system are used to process the signals from the 49 readout channels. The detector has been tested by using the X-ray tube (8~keV). The spatial resolution of the detector is about $103.46~\mathrm{μm}$ with the detector response part about $66.41~\mathrm{μm}$. The nonlinearity of the detector is less than $1.5\%$. A quite good two dimensional imaging capability is achieved as well. The performances of the detector show the prospect of the resistive anode readout method for the large readout area imaging detectors.

Track segment finding with CGEM-IT and matching to tracks in ODC

The relative differences in coordinates of Cylindrical-Gas-Electron-Multiplier-Detector-based Inner Tracker (CGEM-IT) clusters are studied to search for track segments in CGEM-IT. With the full simulation of single muon track samples, clear patterns are found and parameterized for the correct cluster combinations. The cluster combinations satisfying the patterns are selected as track segment candidates in CGEM-IT with an efficiency higher than 99%. The parameters of the track segments are obtained by a helix fitting. Some chi-squared quantities, evaluating the differences in track parameters between the track segments in CGEM-IT and the tracks found in Outer-Drift-Chamber (ODC), are calculated and used to match them. Proper chi-squared requirements are determined as a function of transverse momentum and the matching efficiency is found reasonable.

Study of cluster reconstruction and track fitting algorithms for CGEM-IT at BESIII

Considering the aging effects of existing Inner Drift Chamber (IDC) of BES\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral3}, a GEM based inner tracker is proposed to be designed and constructed as an upgrade candidate for IDC. This paper introduces a full simulation package of CGEM-IT with a simplified digitization model, describes the development of the softwares for cluster reconstruction and track fitting algorithm based on Kalman filter method for CGEM-IT. Preliminary results from the reconstruction algorithms are obtained using a Monte Carlo sample of single muon events in CGEM-IT.

Study on the effect of humidity and dust on leakage current of bulk micro-MEGAS detector

In this paper, the effect of humidity and dust trapped in avalanche region on leakage current of bulk micro-MEGAS detector is studied. Pyralux PC1025 layers of DuPont are introduced in bulk technique and micro-MEGAS detector with pillars of 300μm in diameter is fabricated. Leakage current is tested in air with different humidity. Silicon carbide powder and PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) powder are added as dust to avalanche region. Leakage current with and without powder is tested in air and results are depicted in the same figure. Test results indicate that leakage current increases with both storage humidity and test humidity, and also increases when powder is introduced in avalanche region.
