Global Calderón--Zygmund theory for parabolic $p$-Laplacian system: the case $1<p\leq \frac{2n}{n+2}$

The aim of this paper is to establish global Calderón--Zygmund theory to parabolic $p$-Laplacian system: $$ u_t -\operatorname{div}(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u) = \operatorname{div} (|F|^{p-2}F)~\text{in}~Ω\times (0,T)\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}, $$ proving that $$F\in L^q\Rightarrow \nabla u\in L^q,$$ for any $q>\max\{p,\frac{n(2-p)}{2}\}$ and $p>1$. Acerbi and Mingione \cite{Acerbi07} proved this estimate in the case $p>\frac{2n}{n+2}$. In this article we settle the case $1<p\leq \frac{2n}{n+2}$. We also treat systems with discontinuous coefficients having small BMO (bounded mean oscillation) norm.

A simple proof of the generalized Leibniz rule on bounded Euclidean domains

This note is devoted to a simple proof of the generalized Leibniz rule in bounded domains. The operators under consideration are the so-called spectral Laplacian and the restricted Laplacian. Equations involving such operators have been lately considered by Constantin and Ignatova in the framework of the SQG equation \cite{CI} in bounded domains and by two of the authors \cite{HungJuan} in the framework of the porous medium with nonlocal pressure in bounded domains. We will use the estimates in this work in a forthcoming paper on the study of Porous Medium Equations with pressure given by Riesz-type potentials .

Potential estimates and quasilinear parabolic equations with measure data

In this paper, we study the existence and regularity of the quasilinear parabolic equations: $$u_t-\operatorname{div}(A(x,t,\nabla u))=B(u,\nabla u)+μ,$$ in either $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$ or $\mathbb{R}^N\times(0,\infty)$ or on a bounded domain $Ω\times (0,T)\subset\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$ where $N\geq 2$. In this paper, we shall assume that the nonlinearity $A$ fulfills standard growth conditions, the function $B$ is a continuous and $μ$ is a radon measure. Our first task is to establish the existence results with $B(u,\nabla u)=\pm|u|^{q-1}u$, for $q>1$. We next obtain global weighted-Lorentz, Lorentz-Morrey and Capacitary estimates on gradient of solutions with $B\equiv 0$, under minimal conditions on the boundary of domain and on nonlinearity $A$. Finally, due to these estimates, we solve the existence problems with $B(u,\nabla u)=|\nabla u|^q$ for $q>1$

Quasilinearization of the 3D Muskat equation, and applications to the critical Cauchy problem

We exhibit a new decomposition of the nonlinearity for the Muskat equation and use it to commute Fourier multipliers with the equation. This allows to study solutions with critical regularity. As a corollary, we obtain the first well-posedness result for arbitrary large data in the critical space $\dot{H}^2(\mathbb{R}^2)\cap W^{1,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^2)$. Moreover, we prove the existence of solutions for initial data which are not Lipschitz.

Quantitative estimates for regular Lagrangian flows with $BV$ vector fields

This paper is devoted to the study of flows associated to non-smooth vector fields. We prove the well-posedness of regular Lagrangian flows associated to vector fields $\mathbf{B}=(\mathbf{B}^1,...,\mathbf{B}^d)\in L^1(\mathbb{R}_+;L^1(\mathbb{R}^d)+L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^d))$ satisfying $ \mathbf{B}^i=\sum_{j=1}^{m}\mathbf{K}_j^i*b_j,$ $b_j\in L^1(\mathbb{R}_+,BV(\mathbb{R}^d))$ and $\operatorname{div}(\mathbf{B})\in L^1(\mathbb{R}_+;L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^d))$ for $d,m\geq 2$, where $(\mathbf{K}_j^i)_{i,j}$ are singular kernels in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Moreover, we also show that there exist an autonomous vector-field $\mathbf{B}\in L^1(\mathbb{R}^2)+L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^2)$ and singular kernels $(\mathbf{K}_j^i)_{i,j}$, singular Radon measures $μ_{ijk}$ in $\mathbb{R}^2$ satisfying $\partial_{x_k} \mathbf{B}^i=\sum_{j=1}^{m}\mathbf{K}_j^i\starμ_{ijk}$ in distributional sense for some $m\geq 2$ and for $k,i=1,2$ such that regular Lagrangian flows associated to vector field $\mathbf{B}$ are not unique.

Endpoint Sobolev theory for the Muskat equation

This paper is devoted to the study of solutions with critical regularity for the two-dimensional Muskat equation. We prove that the Cauchy problem is well-posed on the endpoint Sobolev space of $L^2$ functions with three-half derivative in $L^2$. This result is optimal with respect to the scaling of the equation. One well-known difficulty is that one cannot define a flow map such that the lifespan is bounded from below on bounded subsets of this critical Sobolev space. To overcome this, we estimate the solutions for a norm which depends on the initial data themselves, using the weighted fractional Laplacians introduced in our previous works. Our proof is the first in which a null-type structure is identified for the Muskat equation, allowing to compensate for the degeneracy of the parabolic behavior for large slopes.

On the Cauchy problem for the Muskat equation with non-Lipschitz initial data

This article is devoted to the study of the Cauchy problem for the Muskat equation. We consider initial data belonging to the critical Sobolev space of functions with three-half derivative in $L^2$, up to a fractional logarithmic correction. As a corollary, we obtain the first local and global well-posedness results for initial free surface which are not Lipschitz.

The Weyl law of transmission eigenvalues and the completeness of generalized transmission eigenfunctions

The transmission problem is a system of two second-order elliptic equations of two unknowns equipped with the Cauchy data on the boundary. After four decades of research motivated by scattering theory, the spectral properties of this problem are now known to depend on a type of contrast between coefficients near the boundary. Previously, we established the discreteness of eigenvalues for a large class of anisotropic coefficients which is related to the celebrated complementing conditions due to Agmon, Douglis, and Nirenberg. In this work, we establish the Weyl law for the eigenvalues and the completeness of the generalized eigenfunctions for this class of coefficients under an additional mild assumption on the continuity of the coefficients. The analysis is new and based on the $L^p$ regularity theory for the transmission problem established here. It also involves a subtle application of the spectral theory for the Hilbert Schmidt operators. Our work extends largely known results in the literature which are mainly devoted to the isotropic case with $C^\infty$-coefficients.

Quasilinear elliptic equations with a source reaction term involving the function and its gradient and measure data

We study the equation --div(A(x, u)) = g(x, u, u) + $μ$ where $μ$ is a measure and either g(x, u, u) $\sim$ |u| q 1 u||u| q 2 or g(x, u, u) $\sim$ |u| s 1 u + ||u| s 2. We give sufficient conditions for existence of solutions expressed in terms of the Wolff potential or the Riesz potentials of the measure. Finally we connect the potential estimates on the measure with Lipchitz estimates with respect to some Bessel or Riesz capacity.

Advection diffusion equations with Sobolev velocity field

In this note we study advection diffusion equations associated to incompressible $W^{1,p}$ velocity fields with $p>2$. We present new estimates on the energy dissipation rate and we discuss applications to the study of upper bounds on the enhancing dissipation rate, lower bounds on the $L^2$ norm of the density, and quantitative vanishing viscosity estimates. The key tools employed in our argument are a propagation of regularity result, coming from the study of transport equations, and a new result connecting the energy dissipation rate to regularity estimates for transport equations. Eventually we provide examples which underline the sharpness of our estimates.

Quasilinear Riccati type equations with oscillatory and singular data

We characterize the existence of solutions to the quasilinear Riccati type equation \begin{eqnarray*} \left\{ \begin{array}{rcl} -{\rm div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)&=& |\nabla u|^q + σ\quad \text{in} ~Ω, \\ u&=&0 \quad \text{on}~ \partial Ω, \end{array}\right. \end{eqnarray*} with a distributional or measure datum $σ$. Here ${\rm div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)$ is a quasilinear elliptic operator modeled after the $p$-Laplacian ($p>1$), and $Ω$ is a bounded domain whose boundary is sufficiently flat (in the sense of Reifenberg). For distributional data, we assume that $p>1$ and $q>p$. For measure data, we assume that they are compactly supported in $Ω$, $p>\frac{3n-2}{2n-1}$, and $q$ is in the sub-linear range $p-1<q<1$. We also assume more regularity conditions on $\mathcal{A}$ and on $\partialΩ$ in this case.

Existence and regularity estimates for quasilinear equations with measure data: the case $1<p\leq \frac{3n-2}{2n-1}$

We obtain existence and global regularity estimates for gradients of solutions to quasilinear elliptic equations with measure data whose prototypes are of the form $-{\rm div} (|\nabla u|^{p-2} \nabla u)= δ\, |\nabla u|^q +μ$ in a bounded main $\Om\subset\RR^n$ potentially with non-smooth boundary. Here either $δ=0$ or $δ=1$, $μ$ is a finite signed Radon measure in $Ω$, and $q$ is of linear or super-linear growth, i.e., $q\geq 1$. Our main concern is to extend earlier results to the strongly singular case $1<p\leq \frac{3n-2}{2n-1}$. In particular, in the case $δ=1$ which corresponds to a Riccati type equation, we settle the question of solvability that has been raised for some time in the literature.

Energy conservation for inhomogeneous incompressible and compressible Euler equations

Energy conservations are studied for inhomogeneous incompressible and compressible Euler equations with general pressure law in a torus or a bounded domain. We provide sufficient conditions for a weak solution to conserve the energy. By exploiting a suitable test function, the spatial regularity for the density is only required to be of order $2/3$ in the incompressible case, and of order $1/3$ in the compressible case. When the density is constant, we recover the existing results for classical incompressible Euler equation.

Energy equalities for compressible Navier-Stokes equations

The energy equalities of compressible Navier-Stokes equations with general pressure law and degenerate viscosities are studied. By using a unified approach, we give sufficient conditions on the regularity of weak solutions for these equalities to hold. The method of proof is suitable for the case of periodic as well as homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. In particular, by a careful analysis using the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, no boundary layer assumptions are required when dealing with bounded domains with boundary.

Sobolev estimates for solutions of the transport equation and ODE flows associated to non-Lipschitz drifts

It is known, after \cite{Jabin16} and \cite{AlbertiCrippaMazzucato18}, that ODE flows and solutions of the transport equation associated to Sobolev vector fields do not propagate Sobolev regularity, even of fractional order. In this paper, we show that some propagation of Sobolev regularity happens as soon as the gradient of the drift is exponentially integrable. We provide sharp Sobolev estimates and new examples. As an application of our main theorem, we generalize a regularity result for the 2D Euler equation obtained by Bahouri and Chemin in \cite{BahouriChemin94}.

Pointwise gradient estimates for a class of singular quasilinear equation with measure data

Local and global pointwise gradient estimates are obtained for solutions to the quasilinear elliptic equation with measure data $-\operatorname{div}(A(x,\nabla u))=μ$ in a bounded and possibly nonsmooth domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$. Here $\operatorname{div}(A(x,\nabla u))$ is modeled after the $p$-Laplacian. Our results extend earlier known results to the singular case in which $\frac{3n-2}{2n-1}<p\leq 2-\frac{1}{n}$.
