Harvesting Information Across the Horizon

The effect of black holes on entanglement harvesting has been of considerable interest over the past decade. Research involving stationary Unruh-DeWitt (UDW) detectors near a (2+1)-dimensional Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole has uncovered phenomena such as entanglement shadows, entanglement amplification through black hole rotation, and differences between bipartite and tripartite entanglement. For a (1+1)-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole, it has been shown that two infalling UDW detectors can harvest entanglement from the scalar quantum vacuum even when separated by an event horizon. In this paper, we calculate the mutual information between two UDW detectors coupled to a massless quantum scalar field, with the detectors starting at rest and falling radially into a non-rotating (2+1)-dimensional BTZ black hole. The trajectory of the detectors includes regions where both detectors are switched on outside of the horizon; where one detector is switched on inside of the horizon while the other switches on outside; and where both detectors switch on inside of the horizon. We investigate different black hole masses, detector energy gaps, widths and temporal separations of the detector switching functions, and field boundary conditions. We find that black holes--even the simplest kind having constant curvature--significantly affect the correlation properties of quantum fields in the vacuum state. These correlations, both outside and inside the horizon, can be mapped out by infalling detectors.

On the Lagrangian Holographic Relation at $D\rightarrow2$ and $4$ Limits of Gravity

The gravitational Lagrangian can be written as a summation of a bulk and a total derivative term. For some theories of gravity such as Einstein gravity, or more general Lovelock gravities, there are Lagrangian holographic relations between the bulk and the total derivative term such that the latter is fully determined by the former. However at the $D\rightarrow 2\&4$ limit, the bulks of Einstein or Gauss-Bonnet theories become themselves total derivatives. Performing the Kaluza-Klein reduction on Einstein and Gauss-Bonnet gravities gives rise to some two-dimensional or four-dimensional scalar-tensor theories respectively. We obtain the holographic relations for the $D = 2$ and $D = 4$ cases, which have the same form as the holographic relations in pure gravity in the foliation independent formalism.

Mass of Pseudoscalar Gluonium: A Higher-Loop QCD Sum-Rule Estimate

Higher-loop corrections to the pseudoscalar ($0^{-+}$) gluonium correlation function will be used to obtain the leading gluon condensate contributions to the subtraction-independent QCD sum-rules. The effect of these higher-loop corrections on the sum-rule estimates of the pseudoscalar gluonium mass will be investigated. The final results of this analysis compare favourably with $SU(3)$ lattice simulations.

Range of novel black hole phase transitions via massive gravity: Triple points and N-fold reentrant phase transitions

Massive gravities in anti-de Sitter spacetime can be viewed as effective dual field theories of different phases of condensed matter systems with broken translational symmetry such as solids, (perfect) fluids, and liquid crystals. Motivated by this fact, we explore the black hole chemistry (BHC) of these theories and find a new range of novel phase transitions close to realistic ones in ordinary physical systems. We find that the equation of state of topological black holes (TBHs) at their inflection point(s) in $d$-dimensional spacetime reduces to a polynomial equation of degree $(d-4)$, which yields up to $n=(d-4)$ critical points. As a result, for (neutral) TBHs, we observe triple-point phenomena with the associated first-order phase transitions (in $d \ge 7$), and a new phenomenon we call an $N$-fold reentrant phase transition, in which several ($N$) regions of thermodynamic phase space exhibit distinct reentrant phase transitions, with associated virtual triple points and zeroth-order phase transitions (in $d \ge 8$), as well as Van der Waals transitions (in $d \ge 5$) and reentrant (in $d \ge 6$) behavior. We conclude that BHC in higher-dimensional massive gravity is very likely to offer further new surprises.

Asymptotic Safety in the Conformal Hidden Sector?

We combine the notion of asymptotic safety (AS) with conformal invariance in a hidden sector beyond the Standard Model. We use the renormalization group (RG) equations as a bridge to connect UV boundary conditions and EW/TeV scale physics and furnish a detailed example in the context of a leptophobic $U(1)'$ model. A broad selection of UV boundary conditions are formulated corresponding to differing AS scenarios, and we find an AS scenario with very strong predictive power, allowing unique determination of most of the parameters in the model. We obtain the interrelationships among the couplings, the transition scale of the fixed point $M_{UV}$ and the generations of quarks coupled to the $Z'$, and especially the correlation between $M_{UV}$ and the top quark Yukawa coupling $Y_t$. Several phenomenological implications of our results are presented for selected $Z'$ masses.

Microscopic Origin of Black Hole Reentrant Phase Transitions

Understanding the microscopic behavior of the black holes ingredients has been one of the important challenges in black holes physics during the past decades. In order to shed some light on the microscopic structure of black holes, in this paper, we explore a recently observed phenomenon for black holes namely reentrant phase transition, by employing the Ruppeiner geometry. Interestingly enough, we observe two properties for the phase behaviour of small black holes that leads to reentrant phase transition. They are correlated and they are of the interaction type. For the range of pressure in which the system underlies reentrant phase transition, it transits from large black holes phase to small one which possesses higher correlation than the other ranges of pressures. On the other hand, the type of interaction between small black holes near large/small transition line, differs for usual and reentrant phase transitions. Indeed, for usual case, the dominant interaction is repulsive whereas for reentrant case we encounter with an attractive interaction. We show that in reentrant phase transition case, the small black holes behave like a Bosonic gas whereas in the usual phase transition case, they behave like a quantum anyon gas.

van der Waals like behaviour of topological AdS black holes in massive gravity

Motivated by recent developments in black hole thermodynamics, we investigate van der Waals phase transitions of charged black holes in massive gravity. We find that massive gravity theories can exhibit strikingly different thermodynamic behaviour compared to that of Einstein gravity, and that the mass of the graviton can generate a range of new phase transitions for topological black holes that are otherwise forbidden.

Conformal Complex Scalar Singlet Extensions of the Standard Model: Symmetry Breaking Patterns and Phenomenology

We consider a conformal complex singlet extension of the Standard Model with a Higgs portal interaction. Two different scenarios depending on whether the global U(1) symmetry is broken or not have been studied. In the unbroken phase, the decay of the complex singlet is protected by the global U(1) symmetry which leads to an ideal cold dark matter candidate. In the broken phase, we are able to provide a second Higgs at $554\,\rm{GeV}$. In addition, gauging the global U(1) symmetry, we can construct an asymptotically safe U(1)' leptophobic model. We combine the notion of asymptotic safety with conformal symmetry and use the renormalization group equations as a bridge to connect UV boundary conditions and Electroweak/ TeV scale physics. We also provide a detailed example to show that these boundary conditions will lead to phenomenological signatures such as diboson excesses which could be tested at the LHC.

Detection prospects for conformally constrained vector-portal dark matter

We work with a UV conformal U(1)' extension of the Standard Model, motivated by the hierarchy problem and recent collider anomalies. This model admits fermionic vector portal WIMP dark matter charged under the U(1)' gauge group. The asymptotically safe boundary conditions can be used to fix the coupling parameters, which allows the observed thermal relic abundance to constrain the mass of the dark matter particle. This highly restricts the parameter space, allowing strong predictions to be made. The parameter space of several UV conformal U(1)' scenarios will be explored, and both bounds and possible signals from direct and indirect detection observation methods will be discussed.

Conformal Complex Singlet Extension of the Standard Model: Scenario for Dark Matter and a Second Higgs Boson

We consider a conformal complex singlet extension of the Standard Model with a Higgs portal interaction. The global $U(1)$ symmetry of the complex singlet can be either broken or unbroken and we study each scenario. In the unbroken case, the global $U(1)$ symmetry protects the complex singlet from decaying, leading to an ideal cold dark matter candidate with approximately 100 GeV mass along with a significant proportion of thermal relic dark matter abundance. In the broken case, we have developed a renormalization-scale optimization technique to significantly narrow the parameter space and in some situations, provide unique predictions for all the model's couplings and masses. We have found there exists a second Higgs boson with a mass of approximately $550\,\rm{GeV}$ that mixes with the known $125\,\rm{GeV}$ Higgs with a large mixing angle $\sinθ\approx 0.47$ consistent with current experimental limits. The imaginary part of the complex singlet in the broken case could provide axion dark matter for a wide range of models. Upon including interactions of the complex scalar with an additional vector-like fermion, we explore the possibility of a diphoton excess in both the unbroken and the broken cases. In the unbroken case, the model can provide a natural explanation for diphoton excess if extra terms are introduced providing extra contributions to the singlet mass. In the broken case, we find a set of coupling solutions that yield a second Higgs boson of mass $720\,\rm{GeV}$ and an $830\,\rm{GeV}$ extra vector-like fermion $F$, which is able to address the $750\,\rm{GeV}$ LHC diphoton excess. We also provide criteria to determine the symmetry breaking pattern in both the Higgs and hidden sectors.

Canonical reduction for dilatonic gravity in 3+1 dimensions

We generalize the 1+1-dimensional gravity formalism of Ohta and Mann to 3+1 dimensions by developing the canonical reduction of a proposed formalism applied to a system coupled with a set of point particles. This is done via the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner method and by eliminating the resulting constraints and imposing coordinate conditions. The reduced Hamiltonian is completely determined in terms of the particles' canonical variables (coordinates, dilaton field and momenta). It is found that the equation governing the dilaton field under suitable gauge and coordinate conditions, including the absence of transverse-traceless metric components, is a logarithmic Schroedinger equation. Thus, although different, the 3+1 formalism retains some essential features of the earlier 1+1 formalism, in particular the means of obtaining a quantum theory for dilatonic gravity.

Critical Collapse in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity in Five and Six Dimensions

Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity (EGB) provides a natural higher dimensional and higher order curvature generalization of Einstein gravity. It contains a new, presumably microscopic, length scale that should affect short distance properties of the dynamics, such as Choptuik scaling. We present the results of a numerical analysis in generalized flat slice co-ordinates of self-gravitating massless scalar spherical collapse in five and six dimensional EGB gravity near the threshold of black hole formation. Remarkably, the behaviour is universal (i.e. independent of initial data) but qualitatively different in five and six dimensions. In five dimensions there is a minimum horizon radius, suggestive of a first order transition between black hole and dispersive initial data. In six dimensions no radius gap is evident. Instead, below the GB scale there is a change in the critical exponent and echoing period.

Viable dark matter via radiative symmetry breaking in a scalar singlet Higgs portal extension of the standard model

We consider generation of dark matter mass via radiative electroweak symmetry breaking in an extension of the conformal Standard Model containing a singlet scalar field with a Higgs portal interaction. Generating the mass from a sequential process of radiative electroweak symmetry breaking followed by a conventional Higgs mechanism can account for less than 35% of the cosmological dark matter abundance for dark matter mass $M_s>80 GeV$. However in a dynamical approach where both Higgs and scalar singlet masses are generated via radiative electroweak symmetry breaking we obtain much higher levels of dark matter abundance. At one-loop level we find abundances of 10%--100% with $106 GeV 80 GeV$ detection region of the next generation XENON experiment.

Berry Phase Quantum Thermometer

We show how Berry phase can be used to construct an ultra-high precision quantum thermometer. An important advantage of our scheme is that there is no need for the thermometer to acquire thermal equilibrium with the sample. This reduces measurement times and avoids precision limitations.

Eguchi-Hanson like space-times in F(R) gravity

We consider a model of $F(R)$ gravity in which exponential and power corrections to Einstein-$Λ$ gravity are included. We show that this model has 4-dimensional Eguchi-Hanson type instanton solutions in Euclidean space. We then seek solutions to the five dimensional equations for which space-time contains a hypersurface corresponding to the Eguchi-Hanson space. We obtain analytic solutions of the $F(R)$ gravitational field equations, and by assuming certain relationships between the model parameters and integration constants, find several classes of exact solutions. Finally, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the solutions and compute the second derivative of the $F(R)$ function with respect to the Ricci scalar to confirm Dolgov-Kawasaki stability.

Quantum state cloning in the presence of a closed timelike curve

The possible existence of closed timelike curves (CTCs) draws attention to fundamental questions about what is physically possible and what is not. An example is the "no cloning theorem" in quantum mechanics, which states that no physical means exists by which an unknown arbitrary quantum state can be reproduced or copied perfectly. Using the Deutsch approach, we have shown that the no-cloning theorem can be circumvented in the presence of closed timelike curves, allowing the perfect cloning of a quantum state chosen randomly from a finite alphabet of states. Further, we show that a universal cloner can be constructed that when acting on a completely arbitrary qubit state, exceeds the no-cloning bound on fidelity. Since the no cloning theorem has played a central role in the development of quantum information science, it is clear that the existence of closed timelike curves would radically change the rules for quantum information technology. Nevertheless, we show that this type of cloning does not violate no-signalling criteria.

Quasi-topological Reissner-Nordström Black Holes

We consider Reissner-Nordstrom solutions in quasi-topological gravity, obtaining exact solutions to the field equations yielding charged quasi-topological black holes. We study their thermodynamic behaviour over a range of parameters that yield ghost-free and stable space times. We find that a sufficiently negative quasi-topological parameter can yield black holes with 2 horizons, even for zero charge. We discuss the thermodynamic stability for the class of solutions we obtain. We also describe the structure of exact charged solutions to $k^{th}$ order quasi-topological gravity.

Black Holes in (Quartic) Quasitopological Gravity

We construct quartic quasitopological gravity, a theory of gravity containing terms quartic in the curvature that yields second order differential equations in the spherically symmetric case. Up to a term proportional to the quartic term in Lovelock gravity we find a unique solution for this quartic case, valid in any dimensionality larger than 4 except 8. This case is the highest degree of curvature coupling for which explicit black hole solutions can be constructed, and we obtain and analyze the various black hole solutions that emerge from the field equations in $(n+1)$ dimensions. We discuss the thermodynamics of these black holes and compute their entropy as a function of the horizon radius. We then make some general remarks about $K$-th order quasitopological gravity, and point out that the basic structure of the solutions will be the same in any dimensionality for general $K$ apart from particular cases.
