Analytical Calculation of Two-Loop Feynman Diagrams

We review the Laporta algorithm for the reduction of scalar integrals to the master integrals and the differential equations technique for their evaluation. We discuss the use of the basis of harmonic polylogarithms for the analytical expression of the results and some generalization of this basis to wider sets of transcendental functions.

Two-loop QCD corrections to the vector form factors for the heavy-quark photo-production

We review on the calculation of the heavy-quark photo-production vector form factors, with the full dependence on the mass of the heavy-quark. The Feynman diagrams are evaluated within the dimensional regularization scheme and expressed in Laurent series of $ε=(4-D)/2$, where $D$ is the space-time dimension. The coefficients of the expansion are expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. The numerical evaluation of the analytical formulas and the threshold limit of our results are presented.

Planar box diagram for the (N_F = 1) 2-loop QED virtual corrections to Bhabha scattering

In this paper we present the master integrals necessary for the analytic calculation of the box diagrams with one electron loop (N_{F}=1) entering in the 2-loop (α^3) QED virtual corrections to the Bhabha scattering amplitude of the electron. We consider on-shell electrons and positrons of finite mass m, arbitrary squared c.m. energy s, and momentum transfer t; both UV and soft IR divergences are regulated within the continuous D-dimensional regularization scheme. After a brief overview of the method employed in the calculation, we give the results, for s and t in the Euclidean region, in terms of 1- and 2-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms, of maximum weight 3. The corresponding results in the physical region can be recovered by analytical continuation. For completeness, we also provide the analytic expression of the 1-loop scalar box diagram including the first order in (D-4).

Vertex diagrams for the QED form factors at the 2-loop level

We carry out a systematic investigation of all the 2-loop integrals occurring in the electron vertex in QED in the continuous $D$-dimensional regularization scheme, for on-shell electrons, momentum transfer $t=-Q^2$ and finite squared electron mass $m_e^2=a$. We identify all the Master Integrals (MI's) of the problem and write the differential equations in $Q^2$ which they satisfy. The equations are expanded in powers of $ε= (4-D)/2$ and solved by the Euler's method of the variation of the constants. As a result, we obtain the coefficients of the Laurent expansion in $ε$ of the MI's up to zeroth order expressed in close analytic form in terms of Harmonic Polylogarithms.

Master Integrals for the 2-loop QCD virtual corrections to the Forward-Backward Asymmetry

We present the Master Integrals needed for the calculation of the two-loop QCD corrections to the forward-backward asymmetry of a quark-antiquark pair produced in electron-positron annihilation events. The abelian diagrams entering in the evaluation of the vector form factors were calculated in a previous paper. We consider here the non-abelian diagrams and the diagrams entering in the computation of the axial form factors, for arbitrary space-like momentum transfer Q^2 and finite heavy quark mass m. Both the UV and IR divergences are regularized in the continuous D-dimensional scheme. The Master Integrals are Laurent-expanded around D=4 and evaluated by the differential equation method; the coefficients of the expansions are expressed as 1-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms of maximum weight 4.

Two-loop light fermion contribution to Higgs production and decays

We compute the electroweak corrections due to the light fermions to the production cross section $σ(g g \to H)$ and to the partial decay widths $Γ(H \to γγ)$ and $Γ(H \to g g)$. We present analytic results for these corrections that are expressed in terms of Generalized Harmonic Polylogarithms. We find that for the gluon fusion production cross section and for the decay width $Γ(H \to g g)$ the corrections are large in the Higgs mass region below 160 GeV where they reach up to 9% of the lowest order term. For the decay width $Γ(H \to γγ)$ the corrections for Higgs mass above 160 GeV can reach $-$10% of the lowest order term.

Master integrals with 2 and 3 massive propagators for the 2-loop electroweak form factor - planar case

We compute the master integrals containing 2 and 3 massive propagators entering the planar amplitudes of the 2-loop electroweak form factor. The masses of the $W$, $Z$ and Higgs bosons are assumed to be degenerate. This work is a continuation of our previous evaluation of master integrals containing at most 1 massive propagator. The 1/εpoles and the finite parts are computed exactly in terms of a {\it new} class of 1-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms of the variable x, with ε=2-D/2 and D the pace-time dimension. Since thresholds and pseudothresholds in s=\pm 4m^2 do appear in addition to the old ones in s=0,\pm m^2, an extension of the basis function set involving complex constants and radicals is introduced, together with a set of recursion equations to reduce integrals with semi-integer powers. It is shown that the basic properties of the harmonic polylogarithms are maintained by the generalization. We derive small-momentum expansions |s| << m^2 of all the 6-denominator amplitudes. We also present large momentum expansions |s| >> m^2 of all the 6-denominator amplitudes which can be represented in terms of ordinary harmonic polylogarithms. Comparison with previous results in the literature is performed finding complete agreement.

QED vertex form factors at two loops

We present the closed analytic expression of the form factors of the two-loop QED vertex amplitude for on-shell electrons of finite mass $m$ and arbitrary momentum transfer $S=-Q^2$. The calculation is carried out within the continuous $D$-dimensional regularization scheme, with a single continuous parameter $D$, the dimension of the space-time, which regularizes at the same time UltraViolet (UV) and InfraRed (IR) divergences. The results are expressed in terms of 1-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms of maximum weight 4.

Sudakov resummation of multiparton QCD cross sections

We present the general expressions for the resummation, up to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, of Sudakov-type logarithms in processes with an arbirtrary number of hard-scattering partons. These results document the formulae used by the authors in several previous phenomenological studies. The resummation formulae presented here, which are valid for phase-space factorizable observables, determine the resummation correction in a process-independent fashion. All process dependence is encoded in the colour and flavour structure of the leading order and virtual one-loop amplitudes, and in Sudakov weights associated to the cross section kinematics. We explicitly illustrate the application to the case of Drell--Yan and prompt-photon production.

Master integrals with one massive propagator for the two-loop electroweak form factor

We compute the master integrals containing one massive propagator entering the two-loop electroweak form factor, i.e. the process f fbar --> X, where f fbar is an on-shell massless fermion pair and X is a singlet particle under SU(2)L x U(1)Y, such as a virtual gluon or an hypothetical Z'. The method used is that of the differential equation in the evolution variable x = -s/m^2, where s is the c.m. energy squared and m is the mass of the W or Z bosons (assumed to be degenerate). The 1/εpoles and the finite parts are computed exactly in terms of one-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms of the variable x, H(w;x), with ε=2-D/2 and D the space-time dimension. We present large-momentum expansions of the master integrals, i.e. expansions for |s| >> m^2, which are relevant for the study of infrared properties of the Standard Model. We also derive small-momentum expansions of the master integrals, i.e. expansions in the region |s| << m^2, related to the threshold behaviour of the form factor (soft probe). Comparison with previous results in the literature is performed finding complete agreement.

NLL resummation of the heavy-quark hadroproduction cross-section

We compute the effect of soft-gluon resummation, at the next-to-leading-logarithmic level, in the hadroproduction cross-section for heavy flavours. Applications to top, bottom and charm total cross-sections are discussed. We find in general that the corrections to the fixed next-to-leading-order results are larger for larger renormalization scales, and small, or even negative, for smaller scales. This leads to a significant reduction of the scale-dependence of the results, for most experimental configurations of interest.
