Microscopic Derivation of Time-dependent Point Interactions

We study the dynamics of the three-dimensional polaron - a quantum particle coupled to bosonic fields - in the quasi-classical regime. In this case the fields are very intense and the corresponding degrees of freedom can be treated semiclassically. We prove that in such a regime the effective dynamics for the quantum particles is approximated by the one generated by a time-dependent point interaction, i.e., a singular time-dependent perturbation of the Laplacian supported in a point. As a by-product, we also show that the unitary dynamics of a time-dependent point interaction can be approximated in strong operator topology by the one generated by time-dependent Schr\"{o}dinger operators with suitably rescaled regular potentials.

A Quantum Model of Feshbach Resonances

We consider a quantum model of two-channel scattering to describe the mechanism of a Feshbach resonance. We perform a rigorous analysis in order to count and localize the energy resonances in the perturbative regime, i.e., for small inter-channel coupling, and in the non-perturbative one. We provide an expansion of the effective scattering length near the resonances, via a detailed study of an effective Lippmann-Schwinger equation with energy-dependent potential.

Solvable models of quantum beating

We review some results about the suppression of quantum beating in a one dimensional nonlinear double well potential. We implement a single particle double well potential model, making use of nonlinear point interactions. We show that there is complete suppression of the typical beating phenomenon characterizing the linear quantum case.

A quantum hybrid with a thin antenna at the vertex of a wedge

We study the spectrum, resonances and scattering matrix of a quantum hamiltonian on a "hybrid surface" consisting of a half-line attached by its endpoint to the vertex of a concave planar wedge. At the boundary of the wedge, outside the vertex, Dirichlet boundary are imposed. The system is tunable by varying the measure of the angle at the vertex.

Two-dimensional Time-dependent Point Interactions

We study the time-evolution of a quantum particle subjected to time-dependent zero-range forces in two dimensions. After establishing a conceivable ansatz for the solution to the Schrödinger equation, we prove that the wave packet time-evolution is completely specified by the solutions of a system of Volterra-type equations -- the {\it charge equations} -- involving the coefficients of the singular part of the wave function, thus extending to the two-dimensional case known results in one and three dimensions.

A model of a quantum particle in a quantum environment: a numerical study

We define and investigate, via numerical analysis, a one dimensional toy-model of a cloud chamber. An energetic quantum particle, whose initial state is a superposition of two identical wave packets with opposite average momentum, interacts during its evolution and exchanges (small amounts of) energy with an array of localized spins. Triggered by the interaction with the environment, the initial superposition state turns into an incoherent sum of two states describing the following situation: or the particle is going to the left and a large number of spins on the left side changed their states, or the same is happening on the right side. This evolution is reminiscent of what happens in a cloud chamber where a quantum particle, emitted as a spherical wave by a radioactive source, marks its passage inside a supersaturated vapour-chamber in the form of a sequence of small liquid bubbles arranging themselves around a possible classical trajectory of the particle.
