Scaling behavior of the directed percolation universality class

In this work we consider five different lattice models which exhibit continuous phase transitions into absorbing states. By measuring certain universal functions, which characterize the steady state as well as the dynamical scaling behavior, we present clear numerical evidence that all models belong to the universality class of directed percolation. Since the considered models are characterized by different interaction details the obtained universal scaling plots are an impressive manifestation of the universality of directed percolation.

Universal scaling behavior of directed percolation around the upper critical dimension

In this work we consider the steady state scaling behavior of directed percolation around the upper critical dimension. In particular we determine numerically the order parameter, its fluctuations as well as the susceptibility as a function of the control parameter and the conjugated field. Additionally to the universal scaling functions, several universal amplitude combinations are considered. We compare our results with those of a renormalization group approach.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in a Non-Conserving Two-Species Driven Model

A two species particle model on an open chain with dynamics which is non-conserving in the bulk is introduced. The dynamical rules which define the model obey a symmetry between the two species. The model exhibits a rich behavior which includes spontaneous symmetry breaking and localized shocks. The phase diagram in several regions of parameter space is calculated within mean-field approximation, and compared with Monte-Carlo simulations. In the limit where fluctuations in the number of particles in the system are taken to zero, an exact solution is obtained. We present and analyze a physical picture which serves to explain the different phases of the model.

Localization of shocks in driven diffusive systems without particle number conservation

We study the formation of localized shocks in one-dimensional driven diffusive systems with spacially homogeneous creation and annihilation of particles (Langmuir kinetics). We show how to obtain hydrodynamic equations which describe the density profile in systems with uncorrelated steady state as well as in those exhibiting correlations. As a special example of the latter case the Katz-Lebowitz-Spohn model is considered. The existence of a localized double density shock is demonstrated for the first time in one-dimensional driven diffusive systems. This corresponds to phase separation into regimes of three distinct densities, separated by localized domain walls. Our analytical approach is supported by Monte-Carlo simulations.

Diffusion in a generalized Rubinstein-Duke model of electrophoresis with kinematic disorder

Using a generalized Rubinstein-Duke model we prove rigorously that kinematic disorder leaves the prediction of standard reptation theory for the scaling of the diffusion constant in the limit for long polymer chains $D \propto L^{-2}$ unaffected. Based on an analytical calculation as well as Monte Carlo simulations we predict kinematic disorder to affect the center of mass diffusion constant of an entangled polymer in the limit for long chains by the same factor as single particle diffusion in a random barrier model.

Novel phase-separation transition in one-dimensional driven models

A class of models of driven diffusive systems which is shown to exhibit phase separation in $d=1$ dimensions is introduced. Unlike all previously studied models exhibiting similar phenomena, here the phase separated state is fluctuating in the bulk of the macroscopic domains. The nature of the phase transition from the homogeneous to the phase separated state is discussed in view of a recently introduced criterion for phase separation in one-dimensional driven systems.

Universal scaling behavior of directed percolation and the pair contact process in an external field

We consider the scaling behavior of directed percolation and of the pair contact process with a conjugated field. In particular we determine numerically the equation of state and show that both models are characterized by the same universal scaling function. Furthermore we derive the equation of state for the pair contact process within a mean-field approach which again agrees with the mean-field equation of state of the directed percolation universality class.

Exact Hurst exponent and crossover behavior in a limit order market model

An exclusion particle model is considered as a highly simplified model of a limit order market. Its price behavior reproduces the well known crossover from over-diffusion (Hurst exponent H>1/2) to diffusion (H=1/2) when the time horizon is increased, provided that orders are allowed to be canceled. For early times a mapping to the totally asymmetric exclusion process yields the exact result H=2/3 which is in good agreement with empirical data. The underlying universality class of the exclusion process suggests some robustness of the exponent with respect to changes in the trading rules. In the crossover regime the Hurst plot has a scaling property where the bulk deposition/cancellation rate is the critical parameter. Analytical results are fully supported by numerical simulations.
