Shape descriptors of equilibrium states in a quantum lattice model with local multi-well potentials: A geometric analysis near the phase transitions in Sn$_2$P$_2$S$_6$ ferroelectric crystals

We analyze the equilibrium states of quantum lattice model with local multi-well potentials for Sn$_2$P$_2$S$_6$ ferroelectric crystals using the mean and Gaussian curvatures ($H$, $K$), curvedness ($C$) and shape index ($S$). From the energy gap, pressure and temperature variations of $H$, $K$, $C$ and $S$, we have reported the geometric construction of the free energy surfaces for the ferroelectric and paraelectric phases. Their behaviors are explicitly observed near the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transitions. It is found that $H$, $C$ and $S$ display a cusp singularity at the criticality while $K$ converges to zero on both sides of the critical and tricritical points.

Dynamic behavior of the antiferromagnetically coupled bilayer Ising model

Using the path probability and lowest approximation of cluster variation method, we study the dynamic and equilibrium properties of a bilayer magnetic system, consisting of two ferromagnetic monolayers antiferromagnetically coupled for different spins $(\sigma=1/2$ and $S=1)$. Firstly, numerical results of the monolayer and total magnetizations are presented under the effect of the diverse physical parameters, and the phase diagrams of bilayer system are discussed. Then, since it is well established that the path probability method is an effective method for the existence of metastable states, the time evolution of monolayer- and total magnetizations is investigated.

Slow and fast relaxation times of quantum lattice model with local multi-well potentials: phenomenological dynamics for Sn$_{2}$P$_{2}$S$_{6}$ ferroelectric crystals

As a continuation of the previously published work [Velychko O. V., Stasyuk I. V., Phase Transitions, 2019, 92, 420], a phenomenological framework for the relaxation dynamics of quantum lattice model with multi-well potentials is given in the case of deformed Sn$_{2}$P$_{2}$S$_{6}$ ferroelectric lattice. The framework is based on the combination of statistical equilibrium theory and irreversible thermodynamics. In order to study these dynamics in a connected way we assume that the dipole ordering or polarization ($\eta$) and volume deformation ($u$) can be treated as fluxes and forces in the sense of Onsager theory. From the linear relations between the forces and fluxes, the rate equations are derived and characterized by two relaxation times ($\tau_{S}, \tau_{F}$) which describe the irreversible process near the equilibrium states. The behaviors of $\tau_{S}$ and $\tau_{F}$ in the vicinity of ferroelectric phase transitions are studied.

EuCAPT White Paper: Opportunities and Challenges for Theoretical Astroparticle Physics in the Next Decade

Astroparticle physics is undergoing a profound transformation, due to a series of extraordinary new results, such as the discovery of high-energy cosmic neutrinos with IceCube, the direct detection of gravitational waves with LIGO and Virgo, and many others. This white paper is the result of a collaborative effort that involved hundreds of theoretical astroparticle physicists and cosmologists, under the coordination of the European Consortium for Astroparticle Theory (EuCAPT). Addressed to the whole astroparticle physics community, it explores upcoming theoretical opportunities and challenges for our field of research, with particular emphasis on the possible synergies among different subfields, and the prospects for solving the most fundamental open questions with multi-messenger observations.
