The Pomeron in Exclusive $J/ψ$ Vector Meson Production

An earlier developed model for vector meson photoproduction, based on a dipole Pomeron exchange, is extended to electroproduction. Universality of the non linear Pomeron trajectory is tested by fitting the model to ZEUS and H1 data as well as to CDF data on $\bar pp$ elastic scattering

The spectrum of screening masses near T_c: predictions from universality

We discuss the spectrum of screening masses in a pure gauge theory near the deconfinement temperature from the point of view of the dimensionally reduced model describing the spontaneous breaking of the center symmetry. Universality arguments can be used to predict the values of the mass ratios in the scaling region of the deconfined phase when the transition is of second order. One such prediction is that the scalar sector of the screening spectrum in SU(2) pure gauge theory contains a bound state of the fundamental excitation, corresponding through universality to the bound state found in the 3D Ising model and phi^4 theory in the broken symmetry phase. A Monte Carlo evaluation of the screening masses in the gauge theory confirms the validity of the prediction. We briefly discuss the possibility of using similar arguments for first order deconfinement transitions, and in particular for the physically relevant case of SU(3).

Explicit model realizing parton-hadron duality

An explicit model realizing parton-hadron duality and fitting the data is suggested. Complex nonlinear Regge trajectories are important ingredients of the model. The inclusion of $Δ$ and $N^*$ trajectories should account for all resonances in the direct channel. The exotic trajectory is responsible for the smooth background.

$J/ψ$ photoproduction at HERA

We revise and update an earlier model for $J/ψ$ photoproduction based on a dipole Pomeron exchange. We show that the H1 and ZEUS experimental data reported recently can be well fitted by a soft Pomeron alone.

Calculation of Reggeon Vertices in QCD

The method of calculation of effective vertices of interaction of the Reggeized gluon and quark with particles in QCD in the next-to-leading order is developed. The method is demonstrated in the case of already known vertices of both gluon-gluon and quark-quark transitions in the scattering of gluons and quarks on the Reggeized gluon. It is used for the calculation of the gluon-quark transition in the scattering on the Reggeized quark.

Finite-size scaling and the deconfinement transition in gauge theories

We introduce a new method for determining the critical indices of the deconfinement transition in gauge theories. The method is based on the finite size scaling behavior of the expectation value of simple lattice operators, such as the plaquette. We test the method for the case of SU(3) pure gauge theory in (2+1) dimensions and obtain a precise determination of the critical index $ν$, in agreement with the prediction of the Svetitsky-Yaffe conjecture.

Analytic model of Regge trajectories

A model for a Regge trajectory compatible with the threshold behavior required by unitarity and asymptotics in agreement with analyticity constraints is given in explicit form. The model is confronted in the time-like region with widths and masses of the mesonic resonances and, in the space-like region, the $ρ$ trajectory is compared with predictions derived from $π-N$ charge-exchange reaction. Breaking of the exchange degeneracy is studied in the model and its effect on both the masses and widths is determined.

Finite sum of gluon ladders and high energy cross sections

A model for the Pomeron at $t=0$ is suggested. It is based on the idea of a finite sum of ladder diagrams in QCD. Accordingly, the number of $s$-channel gluon rungs and correspondingly the powers of logarithms in the forward scattering amplitude depends on the phase space (energy) available, i.e. as energy increases, progressively new prongs with additional gluon rungs in the $s$-channel open. Explicit expressions for the total cross section involving two and three rungs or, alternatively, three and four prongs (with $\ln^2(s)$ and $\ln^3(s)$ as highest terms, respectively) are fitted to the proton-proton and proton-antiproton total cross section data in the accelerator region. Both QCD calculation and fits to the data indicate fast convergence of the series. In the fit, two terms (a constant and a logarithmically rising one) almost saturate the whole series, the $\ln^2(s)$ term being small and the next one, $\ln^3(s)$, negligible. Theoretical predictions for the photon-photon total cross section are also given.

Strong Bootstrap Conditions

We reformulate the so-called ``strong bootstrap'' conditions for the gluon Reggeization in the next-to-leading approximation (NLA), firstly suggested by Braun and Vacca, using a different approach, which is not based on properties of the eigenstates of the NLA octet BFKL kernel. We write the second strong bootstrap condition for the NLA octet impact factors in a form which makes clear their dependence on the process. According to this condition, the NLA octet impact factors must be given by the product of the corresponding Reggeon interaction vertices with a universal coefficient function. This function can be used also in the formulation of the first strong bootstrap condition for the NLA BFKL kernel in the octet state.

One-loop Reggeon-Reggeon-gluon vertex at arbitrary space-time dimension

In order to check the compatibility of the gluon Reggeization in QCD with the $s$-channel unitarity, the one-loop correction to the Reggeon-Reggeon-gluon vertex must be known at arbitrary space-time dimension $D$. We obtain this correction from the gluon production amplitude in the multi-Regge kinematics and present an explicit expression for it in terms of a few integrals over the transverse momenta of virtual particles. The one-gluon contribution to the non-forward BFKL kernel at arbitrary $D$ is also obtained.

The Compatibility of the Gluon Reggeization with the s-channel Unitarity

Recently the non-forward BFKL kernel for interaction of two Reggeized gluons in the antisymmetric colour octet state in the $t$-channel was obtained in the next-to-leading order. It gives the possibility to check in this order the bootstrap condition for this kernel, appearing as the requirement of the compatibility of gluon Reggeization with the $s$-channel unitarity.

The Pomeron as a Finite Sum of Gluon Ladder

Analytic Model of a Regge Trajectory in the Space-like and Time-like Regions

A model for a Regge trajectory compatible with the threshold behavior required by unitarity and asymptotics in agreement with Mandelstam analyticity is analyzed and confronted with the experimental data on the spectrum of the $ρ$ trajectory as well as those on the $π^- p\to π^0 n$ charge-exchange reaction. The fitted trajectory deviates considerably from a linear one both in the space-like and time-like regions, matching nicely between the two.

The Gluon Impact Factors

We calculate in the next-to-leading approximation the non-forward gluon impact factors for arbitrary color state in the $t$-channel. In the case of the octet state we check the so-called "second bootstrap condition" for the gluon Reggeization in QCD, using the integral representation for the impact factors. The condition is fulfilled in the general case of an arbitrary space-time dimension and massive quark flavors for both helicity conserving and non-conserving parts.

The Quark Impact Factors

We calculate in the next-to-leading approximation the non-forward quark impact factors for both singlet and octet color representation in the $t$-channel. The integral representation of the octet impact factor in the general case of arbitrary space-time dimension and massive quark flavors is used to check the so-called "second bootstrap condition" for the gluon Reggeization at the next-to-leading logarithmic approximation in perturbative QCD. We find that it is satisfied for both helicity conserving and non-conserving parts. The integrations are then performed for the explicit calculation of the impact factors in the massless quark case.

Triple Pomeron and Proton Diffraction Dissociation

We consider proton diffraction dissociation in the dipole Pomeron model, where the Pomeron is represented by a double pole in the $J-$plane, and show that unitarity can be satisfied without decoupling of the triple Pomeron vertex. Differential and total diffractive cross sections for the reaction $\bar{p}+p \to \bar{p}+X$ are analyzed and reproduced in this model.

The quark part of the non-forward BFKL kernel and the ``bootstrap'' for the gluon Reggeization

We calculate the quark part of the kernel of the generalized non-forward BFKL equation at non-zero momentum transfer $t$ in the next-to-leading logarithmic approximation. Along with the quark contribution to the gluon Regge trajectory, this part includes pieces coming from the quark-antiquark production and from the quark contribution to the radiative corrections in one-gluon production in the Reggeon-Reggeon collisions. The results obtained can be used for an arbitrary representation of the colour group in the $t-$channel. Using the results for the adjoint representation, we demonstrate explicitly the fulfillment of the ``bootstrap'' condition for the gluon Reggeization in the next-to-leading logarithmic approximation in the part concerning the quark contribution.
