The Geometry of Quantum Computing

In this expository paper we present a brief introduction to the geometrical modeling of some quantum computing problems. After a brief introduction to establish the terminology, we focus on quantum information geometry and ZX-calculus, establishing a connection between quantum computing questions and quantum groups, i.e. Hopf algebras.

Geometric Deep Learning: a Temperature Based Analysis of Graph Neural Networks

We examine a Geometric Deep Learning model as a thermodynamic system treating the weights as non-quantum and non-relativistic particles. We employ the notion of temperature previously defined in [7] and study it in the various layers for GCN and GAT models. Potential future applications of our findings are discussed.

Deep Learning and Geometric Deep Learning: an introduction for mathematicians and physicists

In this expository paper we want to give a brief introduction, with few key references for further reading, to the inner functioning of the new and successfull algorithms of Deep Learning and Geometric Deep Learning with a focus on Graph Neural Networks. We go over the key ingredients for these algorithms: the score and loss function and we explain the main steps for the training of a model. We do not aim to give a complete and exhaustive treatment, but we isolate few concepts to give a fast introduction to the subject. We provide some appendices to complement our treatment discussing Kullback-Leibler divergence, regression, Multi-layer Perceptrons and the Universal Approximation Theorem.

$N=2$ quantum chiral superfields and quantum super bundles

We give the superalgebra of $N=2$ chiral (and antichiral) quantum superfields realized as a subalgebra of the quantum supergroup $\mathrm{SL}_q(4|2)$. The multiplication law in the quantum supergroup induces a coaction on the set of chiral superfields. We also realize the quantum deformation of the chiral Minkowski superspace as a quantum principal bundle.

A precortical module for robust CNNs to light variations

We present a simple mathematical model for the mammalian low visual pathway, taking into account its key elements: retina, lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN), primary visual cortex (V1). The analogies between the cortical level of the visual system and the structure of popular CNNs, used in image classification tasks, suggests the introduction of an additional preliminary convolutional module inspired to precortical neuronal circuits to improve robustness with respect to global light intensity and contrast variations in the input images. We validate our hypothesis on the popular databases MNIST, FashionMNIST and SVHN, obtaining significantly more robust CNNs with respect to these variations, once such extra module is added.

Differential Calculi on Quantum Principal Bundles over Projective Bases

We propose a sheaf-theoretic approach to the theory of differential calculi on quantum principal bundles over non-affine bases. After recalling the affine case we define differential calculi on sheaves of comodule algebras as sheaves of covariant bimodules together with a morphism of sheaves -- the differential -- such that the Leibniz rule and surjectivity hold locally. The main class of examples is given by covariant calculi over quantum flag manifolds, which we provide via an explicit Ore extension construction. In a second step we introduce principal covariant calculi by requiring a local compatibility of the calculi on the total sheaf, base sheaf and the structure Hopf algebra in terms of exact sequences. In this case Hopf--Galois extensions of algebras lift to Hopf--Galois extensions of exterior algebras with compatible differentials. In particular, the examples of principal (covariant) calculi on the quantum principal bundles $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C}))$ and $\mathcal{O}_q(\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{C}))$ over the projective space $\mathrm{P}^1(\mathbb{C})$ are discussed in detail.

Quotients of complex algebraic supergroups

In this paper we prove that the etale sheafification of the functor arising from the quotient of an algebraic supergroup by a closed subsupergroup is representable by a smooth superscheme.

A geometric interpretation of stochastic gradient descent using diffusion metrics

Stochastic gradient descent (SGD) is a key ingredient in the training of deep neural networks and yet its geometrical significance appears elusive. We study a deterministic model in which the trajectories of our dynamical systems are described via geodesics of a family of metrics arising from the diffusion matrix. These metrics encode information about the highly non-isotropic gradient noise in SGD. We establish a parallel with General Relativity models, where the role of the electromagnetic field is played by the gradient of the loss function. We compute an example of a two layer network.

On Kostant Root Systems for Lie Superalgebras

We study the eigenspace decomposition of a basic classical Lie superalgebra under the adjoint action of a toral subalgebra, thus extending results of Kostant. In recognition of Kostant's contribution we refer to the eigenspaces appearing in the decomposition as Kostant roots. We then prove that Kostant root systems inherit the main properties of classical root systems. Our approach is combinatorial in nature and utilizes certain graphs naturally associated with Kostant root systems. In particular, we reprove Kostant's results without making use of the Killing form.

The $q$-linked complex Minkowski space, its real forms and deformed isometry groups

We establish duality between real forms of the quantum deformation of the 4-dimensional orthogonal group studied by Fioresi et al. and the classification work made by Borowiec et al.. Classically these real forms are the isometry groups of $\mathbb{R}^4$ equipped with Euclidean, Kleinian or Lorentzian metric. A general deformation, named $q$-linked, of each of these spaces is then constructed, together with the coaction of the corresponding isometry group.

Super Bundles

In this paper we give a brief account of the main aspects of the theory of associated and principal super bundles. As an application, we review the Borel-Weil-Bott Theorem in the super setting, and some results on projective embeddings of homogeneous spaces.

The Segre embedding of the quantum conformal superspace

In this paper study the quantum deformation of the superflag Fl(2|0, 2|1,4|1), and its big cell, describing the complex conformal and Minkowski superspaces respectively. In particular, we realize their projective embedding via a generalization to the super world of the Segre map and we use it to construct a quantum deformation of the super line bundle realizing this embedding. This strategy allows us to obtain a description of the quantum coordinate superring of the superflag that is then naturally equipped with a coaction of the quantum complex conformal supergroup SL_q(4|1).

SUSY $N$-supergroups and their real forms

We study SUSY $N$-supergroups, $N=1,2$, their classification and explicit realization, together with their real forms. In the end, we give the supergroup of SUSY preserving automorphism of $\mathbf{C}^{1|1}$ and we identify it with a subsupergroup of the SUSY preserving automorphisms of $\mathbf{P}^{1|1}$.

A Comparison of the functors of points of Supermanifolds

We study the functor of points and the local functor of points (here called the Weil--Berezin functor) for smooth and holomorphic supermanifolds, providing characterization theorems and fully discussing the representability issues. In the end we examine applications to differential calculus including the transitivity theorems.

Representability in Supergeometry

In this paper we use the notion of Grothendieck topology to present a unified way to approach representability in supergeometry, which applies to both the differential and algebraic settings.
