A new type of critical behaviour in random matrix models

In view of the remarkable progress in the analysis of random matrix models during the last years we report on recent work of Eynard on the generation of a new cut in finite distance from the cuts given in the initial theory. This 'birth of a cut' leads to a third order phase transition.

A Lagrangean formalism for Hermitean matrix models

Eynard's formulation of Hermitean 1-matrix models in terms of intrinsic quantities of an associated hyperelliptic Riemann surface is rephrased as a Lagrangean field theory of a scalar particle propagating on the hyperelliptic surface with multiple self-interactions and particle-source interactions. Both types of interaction take place at the branch points of the hyperelliptic surface.

Matone's Relation in the Presence of Gravitational Couplings

The prepotential in N=2 SUSY Yang-Mills theories enjoys remarkable properties. One of the most interesting is its relation to the coordinate on the quantum moduli space $u=< \tr ϕ^2>$ that results into recursion equations for the coefficients of the prepotential due to instantons. In this work we show, with an explicit multi-instanton computation, that this relation holds true at arbitrary winding numbers. Even more interestingly we show that its validity extends to the case in which gravitational corrections are taken into account if the correlators are suitably modified. These results apply also to the cases in which matter in the fundamental and in the adjoint is included. We also check that the expressions we find satisfy the chiral ring relations for the gauge case and compute the first gravitational correction.

The Seiberg-Witten prepotential and the Euler class of the reduced moduli space of instantons

The n-instanton contribution to the Seiberg-Witten prepotential of N=2 supersymmetric d=4 Yang Mills theory is represented as the integral of the exponential of an equivariantly exact form. Integrating out an overall scale and a U(1) angle the integral is rewritten as (4n-3) fold product of a closed two form. This two form is, formally, a representative of the Euler class of the Instanton moduli space viewed as a principal U(1) bundle, because its pullback under bundel projection is the exterior derivative of an angular one-form.

The coefficients of the Seiberg-Witten prepotential as intersection numbers (?)

The $n$-instanton contribution to the Seiberg-Witten prepotential of ${\bf N}=2$ supersymmetric $d=4$ Yang Mills theory is represented as the integral of the exponential of an equivariantly exact form. Integrating out an overall scale and a U(1) angle the integral is rewritten as $(4n-3)$ fold product of a closed two form. This two form is, formally, a representative of the Euler class of the Instanton moduli space viewed as a principal U(1) bundle, because its pullback under bundel projection is the exterior derivative of an angular one-form. We comment on a recent speculation of Matone concerning an analogy linking the instanton problem and classical Liouville theory of punctured Riemann spheres.

The Drinfel'd twisted XYZ model

We construct a factorizing Drinfel'd twist for a face type model equivalent to the XYZ model. Completely symmetric expressions for the operators of the monodromy matrix are obtained.

Resolution of the Nested Hierarchy for Rational sl(n) Models

We construct Drinfel'd twists for the rational sl(n) XXX-model giving rise to a completely symmetric representation of the monodromy matrix. We obtain a polarization free representation of the pseudoparticle creation operators figuring in the construction of the Bethe vectors within the framework of the quantum inverse scattering method. This representation enables us to resolve the hierarchy of the nested Bethe ansatz for the sl(n) invariant rational Heisenberg model. Our results generalize the findings of Maillet and Sanchez de Santos for sl(2) models.

Non-renormalization theorems without supergraphs: The Wess-Zumino model

The non-renormalization theorems of chiral vertex functions are derived on the basis of an algebraic analysis. The property, that the interaction vertex is a second supersymmetry variation of a lower dimensional field monomial, is used to relate chiral Green functions to superficially convergent Green functions by extracting the two supersymmetry variations from an internal vertex and transforming them to derivatives acting on external legs. The analysis is valid in the massive as well as in the massless model and can be performed irrespective of properties of the superpotential at vanishing momentum.

Multi-Magnon Scattering in the Ferromagnetic XXX-Model with Inhomogeneities

We determine the transition amplitude for multi-magnon scattering induced through an inhomogeneous distribution of the coupling constant in the ferromagnetic XXX-model. The two and three particle amplitudes are explicitely calculated at small momenta. This suggests a rather plausible conjecture also for a formula of the general n-particle amplitude.

Uniqueness of the Seiberg-Witten Effective Lagrangian

The low energy effective Lagrangian for $N\es 2$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, proposed by Seiberg and Witten is shown to be the unique solution, assuming only that supersymmetry is unbroken and that the number of strong-coupling singularities is finite. Duality is then a consequence rather than an input.

Brief Resume of Seiberg-Witten Theory

Talk presented by the second author at the Inaugural Coference of the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics, Seoul, June 1996. The purpose of this note is to give a resume of the Seiberg-Witten theory in the simplest possible mathematical terms.
