Scaling Symmetry in Symplectic Thermodynamics

This paper investigates scaling symmetry in thermodynamics by unifying constrained Hamiltonian dynamics with symplectic and contact geometries. Through the mathematical processes of contactization and symplectization, we demonstrate that fixing an extended global scale variable effectively recovers the standard thermodynamic description in terms of scale-invariant quantities. The geometric formalism is illustrated by establishing the diffeomorphism between the Lagrangian submanifolds of ideal and van der Waals gases. Finally, applying this framework to a Schwarzschild black hole reveals that breaking the scale symmetry between internal energy and entropy is a fundamental physical requirement to accommodate non-isothermal dynamics.

Quantization of pseudo-hermitian systems

This work is a generalization of \cite{baldiotti2021} to Grassmann algebras of arbitrary dimensions. Here we present a covariant quantization scheme for pseudoclassical theories focused on non-hermitian quantum mechanics. The quantization maps canonically related pseudoclassical theories to equivalent quantum realizations in arbitrary dimensions. We apply the formalism to the problem of two coupled spins with Heisenberg interaction.

Classical-quantum correspondence for two-level pseudo-Hermitian systems

In this work, a classical-quantum correspondence for two-level pseudo-Hermitian systems is proposed and analyzed. We show that the presence of a complex external field can be described by a pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian if there is a suitable canonical transformation that links it to a real field. We construct a covariant quantization scheme which maps canonically related pseudoclassical theories to unitarily equivalent quantum realizations, such that there is a unique metric-inducing isometry between the distinct Hilbert spaces. In this setting, the pseudo-Hermiticity condition for the operators induces an involution which guarantees the reality of the corresponding symbols, even for the complex field case. We assign a physical meaning for the dynamics in the presence of a complex field by constructing a classical correspondence. As an application of our theoretical framework, we propose a damped version of the Rabi problem and determine the configuration of the parameters of the setup for which damping is completely suppressed. The experimental viability of the proposal is studied within a specific context. We suggest that the main theoretical results developed in the present work could be experimentally verified.

Extended quasilocal Thermodynamics of Schwarzchild-anti de Sitter black holes

In this work we study a homogeneous and quasilocal Thermodynamics associated to the Schwarzschild-anti de Sitter black hole. The usual thermodynamic description is extended within a Hamiltonian approach with the introduction of the cosmological constant in the thermodynamic phase space. The treatment presented is consistent in as much as it respects the laws of black hole Thermodynamics and accepts the introduction of any thermodynamic potential. We are able to construct new equations of state that characterize the Thermodynamics. Novel phenomena can be expected from the proposed setup.

Soliton Fermionic number from the heat kernel expansion

We consider different methods of calculating the (fractional) fermion number of solitons based on the heat kernel expansion. We derive a formula for the localized eta function a more systematic version of the derivative expansion for spectral assymmetry and that provides a more systematic version of the derivative expansion for spectral asymmetry and compute the fermion number in a multiflavour extension of the Goldstone-Wilczek model. We also propose an improved expansionof the heat kernelthat allows the tackling ofthe convergence issues and permits an automated computation of the coefficients

A Hamiltonian approach for the Thermodynamics of AdS black holes

In this work we study the Thermodynamics of D-dimensional Schwarzschild-anti de Sitter (SAdS) black holes. The minimal Thermodynamics of the SAdS spacetime is briefly discussed, highlighting some of its strong points and shortcomings. The minimal SAdS Thermodynamics is extended within a Hamiltonian approach, by means of the introduction of an additional degree of freedom. We demonstrate that the cosmological constant can be introduced in the thermodynamic description of the SAdS black hole with a canonical transformation of the Schwarzschild problem, closely related to the introduction of an anti-de Sitter thermodynamic volume. The treatment presented is consistent, in the sense that it is compatible with the introduction of new thermodynamic potentials, and respects the laws of black hole Thermodynamics. By demanding homogeneity of the thermodynamic variables, we are able to construct a new equation of state that completely characterizes the Thermodynamics of SAdS black holes. The treatment naturally generates phenomenological constants that can be associated with different boundary conditions in underlying microscopic theories. A whole new set of phenomena can be expected from the proposed generalization of SAdS Thermodynamics.

A Hamiltonian approach to Thermodynamics

In the present work we develop a strictly Hamiltonian approach to Thermodynamics. A thermodynamic description based on symplectic geometry is introduced, where all thermodynamic processes can be described within the framework of Analytic Mechanics. Our proposal is constructed on top of a usual symplectic manifold, where phase space is even dimensional and one has well-defined Poisson brackets. The main idea is the introduction of an extended phase space where thermodynamic equations of state are realized as constraints. We are then able to apply the canonical transformation toolkit to thermodynamic problems. Throughout this development, Dirac's theory of constrained systems is extensively used. To illustrate the formalism, we consider paradigmatic examples, namely, the ideal, van der Waals and Clausius gases.

Photon propagation in noncommutative QED with constant external field

We find dispersion laws for the photon propagating in the presence of mutually orthogonal constant external electric and magnetic fields in the context of the $θ$-expanded noncommutative QED. We show that there is no birefringence to the first order in the noncommutativity parameter $% θ.$ By analyzing the group velocities of the photon eigenmodes we show that there occurs superluminal propagation for any direction. This phenomenon depends on the mutual orientation of the external electromagnetic fields and the noncommutativity vector. We argue that the propagation of signals with superluminal group velocity violates causality in spite of the fact that the noncommutative theory is not Lorentz-invariant and speculate about possible workarounds.

Maxwell field with Torsion

We propose a generalizing gauge-invariant model of propagating torsion which couples to the Maxwell field and to charged particles. As a result we have an Abelian gauge invariant action which leads to a theory with nonzero torsion and which is consistent with available experimental data.

Coherent state quantization of paragrassmann algebras

By using a coherent state quantization of paragrassmann variables, operators are constructed in finite Hilbert spaces. We thus obtain in a straightforward way a matrix representation of the paragrassmann algebra. This algebra of finite matrices realizes a deformed Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. The study of mean values in coherent states of some of these operators lead to interesting conclusions.

Quantization of the Damped Harmonic Oscillator Revisited

We return to the description of the damped harmonic oscillator by means of a closed quantum theory with a general assessment of previous works, in particular the Bateman-Caldirola-Kanai model and a new model recently proposed by one of the authors. We show the local equivalence between the two models and argue that latter has better high energy behavior and is naturally connected to existing open-quantum-systems approaches.

Nilpotent noncommutativity and renormalization

We analyze renormalizability properties of noncommutative (NC) theories with a bifermionic NC parameter. We introduce a new 4-dimensional scalar field model which is renormalizable at all orders of the loop expansion. We show that this model has an infrared stable fixed point (at the one-loop level). We check that the NC QED (which is one-loop renormalizable with usual NC parameter) remains renormalizable when the NC parameter is bifermionic, at least to the extent of one-loop diagrams with external photon legs. Our general conclusion is that bifermionic noncommutativity improves renormalizablility properties of NC theories.

Pseudoclassical description of scalar particle in non-Abelian background and path-integral representations

Path-integral representations for a scalar particle propagator in non-Abelian external backgrounds are derived. To this aim, we generalize the procedure proposed by Gitman and Schvartsman 1993 of path-integral construction to any representation of SU(N) given in terms of antisymmetric generators. And for arbitrary representations of SU(N), we present an alternative construction by means of fermionic coherent states. From the path-integral representations we derive pseudoclassical actions for a scalar particle placed in non-Abelian backgrounds. These actions are classically analyzed and then quantized to prove their consistency.

Stability of a Noncommutative Jackiw-Teitelboim Gravity

We start with a noncommutative version of the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity in two dimensions which has a linear potential for the dilaton fields. We study whether it is possible to deform this model by adding quadratic terms to the potential but preserving the number of gauge symmetries. We find that no such deformation exists (provided one does not twist the gauge symmetries).

Quantization of (2+1)-spinning particles and bifermionic constraint problem

This work is a natural continuation of our recent study in quantizing relativistic particles. There it was demonstrated that, by applying a consistent quantization scheme to a classical model of a spinless relativistic particle as well as to the Berezin-Marinov model of 3+1 Dirac particle, it is possible to obtain a consistent relativistic quantum mechanics of such particles. In the present article we apply a similar approach to the problem of quantizing the massive 2+1 Dirac particle. However, we stress that such a problem differs in a nontrivial way from the one in 3+1 dimensions. The point is that in 2+1 dimensions each spin polarization describes different fermion species. Technically this fact manifests itself through the presence of a bifermionic constant and of a bifermionic first-class constraint. In particular, this constraint does not admit a conjugate gauge condition at the classical level. The quantization problem in 2+1 dimensions is also interesting from the physical viewpoint (e.g. anyons). In order to quantize the model, we first derive a classical formulation in an effective phase space, restricted by constraints and gauges. Then the condition of preservation of the classical symmetries allows us to realize the operator algebra in an unambiguous way and construct an appropriate Hilbert space. The physical sector of the constructed quantum mechanics contains spin-1/2 particles and antiparticles without an infinite number of negative-energy levels, and exactly reproduces the one-particle sector of the 2+1 quantum theory of a spinor field.
