Measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})$ with a semileptonic tagging method

We report a measurement of the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \tau^- \bar{\nu}_{\tau})/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast}) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \tau^- \bar{\nu}_{\tau})/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \ell^- \bar{\nu}_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The analysis utilizes a method where the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $\tau$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations.

Phase I results with the Large Angle Beamstrahlung Monitor (LABM) with SuperKEKB beams

We report on the SuperKEKB Phase I operations of the Large Angle Beamstrhalung Monitor (LABM). The detector is described and its performance characterized using the synchrotron radiation backgrounds from the last Beam Line magnets. The backgrounds are also used to determine the expected position of the Interaction Point (IP), and the expected background rates during Phase II.

Search for $CP$ Violation and Measurement of the Branching Fraction in the Decay $D^{0} \to K^0_S K^0_S$

We report a study of the decay $D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S$ using 921~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at or near the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The measured time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry is $ A_{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-0.02 \pm 1.53 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.17) \%$, and the branching fraction is $\mathcal{B} (D^{0}\rightarrow K_{S}^{0}K_{S}^{0})$ = (1.321 $\pm$ 0.023 $\pm$ 0.036 $\pm$ 0.044) $\times$ 10$^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the normalization mode ($D^0 \to K_S^0 π^0$). These results are significantly more precise than previous measurements available for this mode. The $A_{CP}$ measurement is consistent with the standard model expectation.

Evidence for Isospin Violation and Measurement of $CP$ Asymmetries in $B \to K^{\ast}(892) γ$

We report the first evidence for isospin violation in $B \to K^* γ$ and the first measurement of difference of $CP$ asymmetries between $B^+ \to K^{*+} γ$ and $B^0 \to K^{*0} γ$. This analysis is based on the data sample containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation with a significance of 3.1$σ$, $Δ_{0+} = (+6.2 \pm 1.5 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.6 ({\rm syst.}) \pm 1.2 (f_{+-}/f_{00}))$\%, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the fraction of $B^+B^-$ to $B^0\bar{B}^0$ production in $Υ(4S)$ decays. The measured value is consistent with predictions of the SM. The result for the difference of $CP$ asymmetries is $ΔA_{CP} = (+2.4 \pm 2.8({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.5({\rm syst.}))$\%, consistent with zero. The measured branching fractions and $CP$ asymmetries for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays are the most precise to date. We also calculate the ratio of branching fractions of $B^0 \to K^{*0} γ$ to $B_s^0 \to ϕγ$.

Measurement of the tau Michel parameters $\bar{\eta}$ and $\xi\kappa$ in the radiative leptonic decay $\tau^- \rightarrow \ell^- \nu_{\tau} \bar{\nu}_{\ell}\gamma$

We present a measurement of the Michel parameters of the $\tau$ lepton, $\bar{\eta}$ and $\xi\kappa$, in the radiative leptonic decay $\tau^- \rightarrow \ell^- \nu_{\tau} \bar{\nu}_{\ell} \gamma$ using 711~f$\mathrm{b}^{-1}$ of collision data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The Michel parameters are measured in an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic distribution of $e^+e^-\rightarrow\tau^+\tau^-\rightarrow (\pi^+\pi^0 \bar{\nu}_\tau)(\ell^-\nu_{\tau}\bar{\nu}_{\ell}\gamma)$ $(\ell=e$ or $\mu)$. The measured values of the Michel parameters are $\bar{\eta} = -1.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.8$ and $\xi\kappa = 0.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.2$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first measurement of these parameters. These results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions within their uncertainties and constrain the coupling constants of the generalized weak interaction.

Study of $η$ and dipion transitions in $Υ(4S)$ decays to lower bottomonia

We study hadronic transitions between bottomonium states using 496 fb$^{-1}$ data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We measure: ${\cal B}(Υ(4S)\toπ^+π^-Υ(1S))=(8.2\pm 0.5 {\rm(stat.)} \pm 0.4 {\rm(syst.)})\times10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}(Υ(4S)\toπ^+π^-Υ(2S))=(7.9\pm 1.0 {\rm(stat.)} \pm 0.4 {\rm(syst.)})\times10^{-5}$, and ${\cal B}(Υ(4S)\toηΥ(1S))=(1.70\pm 0.23 {\rm(stat.)} \pm 0.08 {\rm(syst.)})\times10^{-4}$. We measure the ratio of branching fractions ${\cal R} = {\cal B}(Υ(4S)\toηΥ(1S))/{\cal B}(Υ(4S)\toπ^+π^-Υ(1S)) = 2.07\pm 0.30 {\rm(stat.)} \pm 0.11 {\rm(syst.)}$. We search for the decay $Υ(1^3D_{1,2})\toηΥ(1S)$, but do not find significant evidence for such a transition. We also measure the initial state radiation production cross sections of the $Υ(2S,3S)$ resonances and we find values compatible with the expected ones. Finally, the analysis of the $Υ(4S)\toπ^+π^-Υ(1S)$ events shows indications for a resonant contribution due to the $f_0(980)$ meson.

Invariant-mass and fractional-energy dependence of inclusive production of di-hadrons in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at $\sqrt{s}=$ 10.58 GeV

The inclusive cross sections for di-hadrons of charged pions and kaons ($e^+e^- \rightarrow hhX$) in electron-positron annihilation are reported. They are obtained as a function of the total fractional energy and invariant mass for any di-hadron combination in the same hemisphere as defined by the thrust event-shape variable and its axis. Since same-hemisphere di-hadrons can be assumed to originate predominantly from the same initial parton, di-hadron fragmentation functions are probed. These di-hadron fragmentation functions are needed as an unpolarized baseline in order to quantitatively understand related spin-dependent measurements in other processes and to apply them to the extraction of quark transversity distribution functions in the nucleon. The di-hadron cross sections are obtained from a $655\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ data sample collected at or near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider.

Angular analysis of the $e^+ e^- \to D^{(*) \pm} D^{* \mp}$ process near the open charm threshold using initial-state radiation

We report a new measurement of the exclusive $e^+ e^- \to D^{(*) \pm} D^{*\mp}$ cross sections as a function of the center-of-mass energy from the $D^{(*) \pm} D^{* \mp}$ threshold through $\sqrt{s}=6.0$ GeV with initial-state radiation. The analysis is based on a data sample collected with the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of $951$ fb$^{-1}$. The accuracy of the cross section measurement is increased by a factor of two over the first Belle study. We perform the first angular analysis of the $e^+ e^- \to D^{* \pm} D^{* \mp}$ process and decompose this exclusive cross section into three components corresponding to the $D^*$ helicities.

Production cross sections of hyperons and charmed baryons from $e^+e^-$ annihilation near $\sqrt{s} = 10.52$~GeV

We measure the inclusive production cross sections of hyperons and charmed baryons from $e^+e^-$ annihilation using a 800 fb$^{-1}$ data sample taken near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The feed-down contributions from heavy particles are subtracted using our data, and the direct production cross sections are presented for the first time. The production cross sections divided by the number of spin states for $S=-1$ hyperons follow an exponential function with a single slope parameter except for the $\Sigma(1385)^+$ resonance. Suppression for $\Sigma(1385)^+$ and $\Xi(1530)^0$ hyperons is observed. Among the production cross sections of charmed baryons, a factor of three difference for $\Lambda_c^+$ states over $\Sigma_c$ states is observed. This observation suggests a diquark structure for these baryons.

Observation of an alternative $χ_{c0}(2P)$ candidate in $e^+ e^- \rightarrow J/ψD \bar{D}$

We perform a full amplitude analysis of the process $e^+ e^- \rightarrow J/ψD \bar{D}$, where $D$ refers to either $D^0$ or $D^+$. A new charmoniumlike state $X^*(3860)$ that decays to $D \bar{D}$ is observed with a significance of $6.5σ$. Its mass is ($3862^{+26}_{-32}{}^{+40}_{-13}$) MeV/$c^2$ and width is ($201^{+154}_{-67}{}^{+88}_{-82}$) MeV. The $J^{PC}=0^{++}$ hypothesis is favored over the $2^{++}$ hypothesis at the level of $2.5σ$. The analysis is based on the 980 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ data sample collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider KEKB.

Search for heavy neutrinos at Belle

We report on a search for heavy neutrinos in B-meson decays. The results are obtained using a data sample that contains 772x10^6 BB-bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. No signal is observed and upper limits are set on mixing of heavy neutrinos with left-handed neutrinos of the Standard Model in the mass range 0.5 - 5.0 GeV/c^2.

Measurement of the branching fraction and $CP$ asymmetry in $B^{0} \to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ decays, and an improved constraint on $\phi_{2}$

We measure the branching fraction and $CP$ violation asymmetry in the decay $B^{0}\to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}$, using a data sample of $752\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The obtained branching fraction and direct $CP$ asymmetry are $ \mathcal{B}(B\to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}) = [1.31 \pm 0.19~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.19~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6}$ and $ A_{CP} = +0.14 \pm 0.36~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.10~ \text{(syst.)}, $ respectively. The signal significance, including the systematic uncertainty, is 6.4 standard deviations. We combine these results with Belle's earlier measurements of $B^{0}\to \pi^{+} \pi^{-}$ and $B^{\pm} \to \pi^{\pm} \pi^{0}$ to exclude the $CP$-violating parameter $\phi_{2}$ from the range $15.5^{\circ} < \phi_{2} < 75.0^{\circ}$ at 95\% confidence level.

Observation of $D^0\to ρ^0γ$ and search for $CP$ violation in radiative charm decays

We report the first observation of the radiative charm decay $D^0 \to ρ^0 γ$ and the first search for $CP$ violation in decays $D^0 \to ρ^0 γ$, $ϕγ$, and $\overline{K}{}^{*0} γ$, using a data sample of 943 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ρ^0 γ)=(1.77 \pm 0.30 \pm 0.07) \times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The obtained $CP$ asymmetries, $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to ρ^0 γ)=+0.056 \pm 0.152 \pm 0.006$, $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to ϕγ)=-0.094 \pm 0.066 \pm 0.001$, and $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^0 \to \overline{K}{}^{*0} γ)=-0.003 \pm 0.020 \pm 0.000$, are consistent with no $CP$ violation. We also present an improved measurement of the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ϕγ)=(2.76 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.10) \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to \overline{K}{}^{*0} γ)=(4.66 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.21) \times 10^{-4}$.

Measurement of the Decays $\boldsymbol{B\to\eta\ell\nu_\ell}$ and $\boldsymbol{B\to\eta^\prime\ell\nu_\ell}$ in Fully Reconstructed Events at Belle

We report branching fraction measurements of the decays $B^+\to\eta\ell^+\nu_\ell$ and $B^+\to\eta^\prime\ell^+\nu_\ell$ based on 711~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. This data sample contains 772 million $B\bar B$~events. One of the two $B$~mesons is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. Among the remaining ("signal-$B$") daughters, we search for the $\eta$~meson in two decay channels, $\eta\to\gamma\gamma$ and $\eta\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$, and reconstruct the $\eta^{\prime}$~meson in $\eta^\prime\to\eta\pi^+\pi^-$ with subsequent decay of the $\eta$ into $\gamma\gamma$. Combining the two $\eta$ modes and using an extended maximum likelihood, the $B^+\to\eta\ell^+\nu_\ell$ branching fraction is measured to be $(4.2\pm 1.1 (\rm stat.)\pm 0.3 (\rm syst.))\times 10^{-5}$. For $B^+\to\eta^\prime\ell^+\nu_\ell$, we observe no significant signal and set an upper limit of $0.72\times 10^{-4}$ at 90\% confidence level.

First measurement of $\boldsymbol{T}$-odd moments in $\boldsymbol{D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}}$ decays

We report the first measurement of the $T$-odd moments in the decay $D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}$ from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $966\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. From these moments we determine the $CP$-violation-sensitive asymmetry $a_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}} = \left[-0.28 \pm 1.38 ~(\rm{stat.}) ^{+0.23}_{-0.76} ~(\rm{syst.})\right] \times 10^{-3}$, which is consistent with no $CP$ violation. In addition, we perform $a_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}}$ measurements in different regions of the $D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}$ phase space; these are also consistent with no $CP$ violation.

Precise determination of the CKM matrix element $\left| V_{cb}\right|$ with $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decays with hadronic tagging at Belle

The precise determination of the CKM matrix element $\left| V_{cb}\right|$ is important for carrying out tests of the flavour sector of the Standard Model. In this article we present a preliminary analysis of the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay mode and its charge conjugate, selected in events that contain a fully reconstructed $B$-meson, using 772 million $e^+ \, e^- \to Υ(4S) \to B \bar B$ events recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. Unfolded differential decay rates of four kinematic variables fully describing the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay in the $B$-meson rest frame are presented. We measure the total branching fraction $\mathcal{B}( \bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell ) = \left(4.95 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \right) \times 10^{-2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively. The value of $\left|V_{cb} \right|$ is determined to be $\left( 37.4 \pm 1.3 \right) \times 10^{-3}$. Both results are in good agreement with current world averages.

Search for $\boldsymbol{B\to h\nu\bar{\nu}}$ decays with semileptonic tagging at Belle

We present the results of a search for the rare decays $B\to h\nu\overline{\nu}$, where $h$ stands for $K^+,\:K^0_{\mathrm{S}},\:K^{\ast +},\:K^{\ast 0},\:\pi^+,\:\pi^0,\:\rho^+$ and $\rho^{0}$. The results are obtained with $772\times10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a semileptonic decay and require a single $h$ meson but nothing else on the signal side. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions. The limits set on the $B\to K^0_{\mathrm{S}}\nu\overline{\nu}$, $B^0\to K^{*0}\nu\overline{\nu}$, $B\to \pi^+\nu\overline{\nu}$, $B^0\to\pi^0\nu\overline{\nu}$, $B^+\to\rho^+\nu\overline{\nu}$, and $B^0\to\rho^0\nu\overline{\nu}$ channels are the world's most stringent.
