Bottomonium and B results from full lattice QCD

We have developed two methods for handling $b$ quarks in lattice QCD. One uses NRQCD (now improved to include radiative corrections) and the other uses Highly Improved Staggered Quarks (HISQ), extrapolating to the $b$ quark from lighter masses and using multiple lattice spacings to control discretisation errors. Comparison of results for the two different methods gives confidence in estimates of lattice QCD systematic errors, since they are very different in these two cases. Here we show results for heavyonium hyperfine splittings and vector current-current correlator moments using HISQ quarks, to add to earlier results testing the heavy HISQ method with pseudoscalar mesons. We also show the form factor for $B \rightarrow πl ν$ decay at zero recoil using NRQCD $b$ quarks and $u/d$ quarks with physical masses. This allows us to test the soft pion theorem relation ($f_0(q^2_{max})=f_B/f_π$) accurately and we find good agreement as $M_π \rightarrow 0$. }

Precise charm to strange mass ratio and light quark masses from full lattice QCD

By using a single formalism to handle charm, strange and light valence quarks in full lattice QCD for the first time, we are able to determine ratios of quark masses to 1%. For $m_c/m_s$ we obtain 11.85(16), an order of magnitude more precise than the current PDG average. Combined with 1% determinations of the charm quark mass now possible this gives $\bar{m}_s(2{\rm GeV}) =$ 92.4(1.5) MeV. The MILC result for $m_s/m_l = 27.2(3) $ yields $\bar{m}_l(2{\rm GeV})$ = 3.40(7) MeV for the average of $u$ and $d$ quark masses.

Precision charm physics, m_c and alpha_s from lattice QCD

We present an update of results from the HPQCD collaboration on charm physics using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark action. This includes a precise determination of m_c using moments of current-current correlators combined with high-order continuum QCD perturbation theory. We also include an update on the determination of alpha_s from lattice QCD, preliminary results on the determination of m_b and a summary plot of the status of the gold-plated meson spectrum. There is an appendix on tackling systematic errors in fitting using the Bayesian approach.

Non-Relativistic QCD for Heavy Quark Systems

We employ a nonrelativistic version of QCD (NRQCD) to study heavy quark-antiquark bound states in the lowest approximation without fine structure. We use gluon configurations on a 16^3 by 48 lattice at beta=6.2 from the UKQCD collaboration. For quark masses in the vicinity of the b we obtain bound state masses for S, P and both types of D wave. We also detect signals for two types of hybrids (quark,antiquark,gluon states). The results are sufficiently accurate to confirm that the values of the D wave mass from both lattice D waves coincide indicating that the cubical invariance of the lattice is restored to full rotational invariance at large distance. Our results also show that the S-P splitting is indeed insensitive to variations in the bare quark mass from Ma=1.0 to Ma=1.9.
