A nuclear matter description based on quark structure of the nucleon and pion exchange

We investigate the possibility to describe nuclear matter in an approach constrained by the prominent features of quantum chromodynamics. We mapped the in-medium nucleon self-energies of a point coupling relativistic mean-field model on self-energies obtained in effective theories of QCD. More precisely, the contributions to the nucleon self-energy have been separated into the short range part, driven principally by the quark structure of the nucleon described in a quark-diquark picture, and the long range part, dictated by pion dynamics and determined using in-medium chiral perturbation theory. A saturation point, although unrealistic, is obtained without any free parameter. A realistic description of nuclear matter saturation properties has been obtained with the inclusion of a small phenomenological correction term to the short range part of the self-energy.

In-medium omega meson mass and quark condensate in a Nambu Jona-Lasinio model constrained by recent experimental data

We have determined the relation between the in-medium $ω$ meson mass and quark condensate in the framework of a Nambu Jona-Lasinio model constrained by some recent experimental data on the meson properties in nuclei. In addition to the usual four-quark interactions, we have included eight-quark terms in the Lagrangian. The parameters of this model have been determined using the meson properties in the vacuum as well as in the medium. More particularly, we have constrained both the in-medium pion decay constant to the value measured in experiments on deeply bound pionic atoms and the in-medium $ω$ meson mass to the experimental value obtained either by the TAPS collaboration or by the E325 experiment at KEK. Our results are compared to several scaling laws and in particular to that of Brown and Rho.

Saturation properties of nuclear matter in a relativistic mean field model constrained by the quark dynamics

We have built an effective Walecka-type hadronic Lagrangian in which the hadron masses and the density dependence of the coupling constants are deduced from the quark dynamics using a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. In order to stabilize nuclear matter an eight-quark term has been included. The parameters of this Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model have been determined using the meson properties in the vacuum but also in the medium through the omega meson mass in nuclei measured by the TAPS collaboration. Realistic properties of nuclear matter have been obtained.
