An integrable hierarchy associated with loop extension of $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$

A hierarchy of $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded integrable equations is constructed using the loop extension of the $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$. This hierarchy includes $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded extensions of the Liouville, sinh-Gordon, cosh-Gordon, and, in particular, the mKdV equations. The $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded KdV equation is also derived from the $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-mKdV equation via the Miura transformation. We present explicit formulas for the conserved charges of the $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-KdV and $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-mKdV equations. A distinctive feature of these $\mathbb{Z}_2^2$-graded integrable systems is the existence of conserved charges with nontrivial grading.

New aspects of the Z$_{\textrm 2}$ $\times$ Z$_{\textrm 2}$-graded 1D superspace: induced strings and 2D relativistic models

A novel feature of the ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded supersymmetry which finds no counterpart in ordinary supersymmetry is the presence of $11$-graded exotic bosons (implied by the existence of two classes of parafermions). Their interpretation, both physical and mathematical, presents a challenge. The role of the "exotic bosonic coordinate" was not considered by previous works on the one-dimensional ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded superspace (which was restricted to produce point-particle models). By treating this coordinate at par with the other graded superspace coordinates new consequences are obtained. The graded superspace calculus of the ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded worldline super-Poincar\'e algebra induces two-dimensional ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded relativistic models; they are invariant under a new ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded $2D$ super-Poincar\'e algebra which differs from the previous two ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded $2D$ versions of super-Poincar\'e introduced in the literature. In this new superalgebra the second translation generator and the Lorentz boost are $11$-graded. Furthermore, if the exotic coordinate is compactified on a circle ${\bf S}^1$, a ${\mathbb Z}_2\times {\mathbb Z}_2$-graded closed string with periodic boundary conditions is derived. The analysis of the irreducibility conditions of the $2D$ supermultiplet implies that a larger $(\beta$-deformed, where $\beta\geq 0$ is a real parameter) class of point-particle models than the ones discussed so far in the literature (recovered at $\beta=0$) is obtained. While the spectrum of the $\beta=0$ point-particle models is degenerate (due to its relation with an ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetry), this is no longer the case for the $\beta> 0$ models.

Coherent beam splitting of flying electrons driven by a surface acoustic wave

We develop a coherent beam splitter for single electrons driven through two tunnel-coupled quantum wires by surface acoustic waves (SAWs). The output current through each wire oscillates with gate voltages to tune the tunnel-coupling and potential difference between the wires. This oscillation is assigned to coherent electron tunneling motion that can be used to encode a flying qubit and is well reproduced by numerical calculations of time evolution of the SAW-driven single electrons. The oscillation visibility is currently limited to about 3%, but robust against decoherence, indicating that the SAW-electron can serve as a novel platform for a solid-state flying qubit.

Lower critical field measurement of NbN multilayer thin film superconductor at KEK

The multilayer thin film structure of the superconductor has been proposed by A. Gurevich to enhance the maximum gradient of SRF cavities. The lower critical field Hc1 at which the vortex starts penetrating the superconducting material will be improved by coating Nb with thin film superconductor such as NbN. It is expected that the enhancement of Hc1 depends on the thickness of each layer. In order to determine the optimum thickness of each layer and to compare the measurement results with the theoretical prediction proposed by T. Kubo, we developed the Hc1 measurement system using the third harmonic response of the applied AC magnetic field at KEK. For the Hc1 measurement without the influence of the edge or the shape effects, the AC magnetic field can be applied locally by the solenoid coil of 5mm diameter in our measurement system. ULVAC made the NbN-SiO2 multilayer thin film samples of various NbN thicknesses. In this report, the measurement result of the bulk Nb sample and NbN-SiO2 multilayer thin film samples of different thickness of NbN layer will be discussed.

Evaluation of the superconducting characteristics of multi-layer thin-film structures of NbN and SiO$_2$ on pure Nb substrate

In recent years, it has been pointed out that the maximum accelerating gradient of a superconducting RF cavity can be increased by coating the inner surface of the cavity with a multilayer thin-film structure consisting of alternating insulating and superconducting layers. In this structure, the principal parameter that limits the performance of the cavity is the critical magnetic field or effective $H_{C1}$ at which vortices begin penetrating into the superconductor layer. This is predicted to depend on the combination of the film thickness. We made samples that have a NbN/SiO$_2$ thin-film structure on a pure Nb substrate with several layers of NbN film deposited using DC magnetron sputtering method. Here, we report the measurement results of effective $H_{C1}$ of NbN/SiO$_2$(30 nm)/Nb multilayer samples with thicknesses of NbN layers in the range from 50 nm to 800 nm by using the third-harmonic voltage method. Experimental results show that an optimum thickness exists, which increases the effective $H_{C1}$ by 23.8 %.

Photopolarimetric monitoring of 41 blazars in the optical and near-infrared bands with the Kanata telescope

Blazars are a kind of active galactic nuclei (AGN) in which a relativistic jet is considered to be directed along the line of sight. They are characterized by strong and rapid variability of the flux and high polarization. We performed a monitoring of 41 blazars in the optical and near-infrared regions from 2008 to 2009 using TRISPEC attached to the "Kanata" 1.5-m telescope. In this paper, we report the correlation of the flux, color and polarization using our data, and discuss universal features for blazars, which have not fully been established. Three blazars (3C 454.3, QSO 0454$-$234, and PKS 1510$-$089) tended to be redder when they were brighter, only during their faint states. This color behavior suggests that the contribution of a thermal component is strong in the faint states for those objects. Excluding this "redder-when-brighter" phase, we found that 24 blazars tended to be bluer when they were brighter. This number corresponds to 83% among well-observed objects which we observed for $>10$ nights. Thus, we conclude that the "bluer-when-brighter" trend is a universal feature for blazars. On the other hand, the correlation of the flux and the polarization degree is relatively weak; only 10 objects showed a significant positive correlation. We also investigated the luminosity-dependence of the color and polarization, and found that lower luminosity objects have smaller variation amplitudes both in the flux, color, and polarization degree.
