Pressure tuning of localization and superconductivity in LaOPbBiS$_{3}$ and La$_{2}$O$_{2}$Bi$_{3}$AgS$_{6}$

We report the effect of pressure on the electrical transport properties of the four-layer-type bismuth chalcogenide semiconductors LaOPbBiS$_{3}$ and La$_{2}$O$_{2}$Bi$_{3}$AgS$_{6}$ and present the discovery of a pressure-induced superconductivity. In both compounds, the semiconductorlike behavior concomitant with an anomaly in the more insulating state is gradually suppressed with increasing pressure while the superconductivity develops. The obtained phase diagrams, in sharp contrast with the interplay between the conventional charge density waves and superconductivity, suggest that the enhancement of the superconductivity is due to the disorder near the localization threshold. These results indicate that pressure tuning of the local disorder in four-layer-type bismuth chalcogenides provides an attractive opportunity to study the interplay between disorder and superconductivity.

Optical evidence of type-II Weyl semimetals MoTe$_2$ and WTe$_2$

The carrier dynamics and electronic structures of type-II Weyl semimetal candidates MoTe$_2$ and WTe$_2$ have been investigated by using temperature-dependent optical conductivity [$σ(ω)$] spectra. Two kinds of Drude peaks (narrow and broad) have been separately observed. The width of the broad Drude peak increases with elevating temperature above the Debye temperature of about 130 K in the same way as those of normal metals, on the other hand, the narrow Drude peak becomes visible below 80 K and the width is rapidly suppressed with decreasing temperature. Because the temperature dependence of the narrow Drude peak is similar to that of a type-I Weyl semimetal TaAs, it was concluded to originate from Dirac carriers of Weyl bands. The result suggests that the conductance has the contribution of two kinds of carriers, normal semimetallic and Dirac carriers, and this observation is an evidence of type-II Weyl semimetals of MoTe$_2$ and WTe$_2$. The obtained $σ(ω)$ spectra in the interband transition region can be explained by band structure calculations with a band renormalization owing to electron correlation.

Evidence for conventional superconductivity in Sr0.1Bi2Se3 from high pressure studies

SrxBi2Se3 is recently reported to be a superconductor derived from topological insulator Bi2Se3. It shows a maximum resistive Tc of 3.25 K at ambient pressure. We report magnetic (upto 1 GPa) and transport properties (upro 8 Gpa) under pressure for single crystalline Sr0.1Bi2Se3 superconductor. Magnetic measurements show that Tc decreases from ~2.6 K (0 GPa) to ~1.9 K (0.81 GPa). Similar behavior is observed in transport properties as well without much change in the metallic characteristics in normal state resistivity. No reentrant superconducting phase (Physical Review B 93, 144514 (2016)) is observed at high pressure. Normal state resistivity near Tc is explained by Fermi liquid model. Above 100 K, a polaronic hopping conduction mechanism with two parallel channels for current flow is indicated. Band structure calculations indicate decreasing density of states at Fermi level with pressure. In consonance with transition temperature suppression in conventional BCS low Tc superconductors, the pressure effect in SrxBi2Se3 is well accounted by pressure induced band broadening.

Improved superconducting properties of skutterudite La3Co4Sn13 with indium substitution

We report on two fold increase in superconducting transition temperature of La3Co4Sn13 by substituting indium at the tin site. The transition temperature of this skutterudite is observed to increase from 2.5 K to 5.1 K for 10 % indium substituted sample. The band structure and density of states calculations also indicate such a possibility. The compounds exhibit type - II superconductivity and the values of lower critical field (Hc1), upper critical field (Hc2), Ginzburg - Landau coherence length , penetration depth and GL parameter are estimated to be 0.0028 T, 0.68 T, 21.6 nm, 33.2 nm and 1.53 respectively for La3 Co4Sn11.7In1.3. Hydrostatic external pressure leads to decrease in transition temperature and the calculated pressure coefficient is -0.311 K/GPa . Flux pinning and vortex activation energies also improved with indium addition. Only positive frequencies are observed in phonon dispersion curve that relate to the absence of charge density wave or structural instability in the normal state.

Workspace and Singularity analysis of a Delta like family robot

Workspace and joint space analysis are essential steps in describing the task and designing the control loop of the robot, respectively. This paper presents the descriptive analysis of a family of delta-like parallel robots by using algebraic tools to induce an estimation about the complexity in representing the singularities in the workspace and the joint space. A Gr{ö}bner based elimination is used to compute the singularities of the manipulator and a Cylindrical Algebraic Decomposition algorithm is used to study the workspace and the joint space. From these algebraic objects, we propose some certified three dimensional plotting describing the the shape of workspace and of the joint space which will help the engineers or researchers to decide the most suited configuration of the manipulator they should use for a given task. Also, the different parameters associated with the complexity of the serial and parallel singularities are tabulated, which further enhance the selection of the different configuration of the manipulator by comparing the complexity of the singularity equations.

Effect of pressure on superconductivity in doped topological crystalline insulator Sn0.5In0.5Te

We report on the impact of hydrostatic pressure on the superconductivity of optimally (Indium) doped SnTe which is established to be derived from a topological crystalline insulating phase. Single crystals of Sn1-xInxTe were synthesized by a modified Bridgman method that exhibited maximum superconducting Tc of 4.4 K for x= 0.5. Hydrostatic pressure upto 2.5 GPa was applied on the crystals of Sn0.5In0.5Te and electrical resistivity as a function of temperature and pressure was measured. We observed decrease in onset superconducting transition temperature from 4.4 K to 2.8 K on increasing pressure from ambient to 2.5 GPa. The normal state resistivity also decreased abruptly by an order of magnitude at 0.5 GPa but for higher pressures, the same decreased marginally. From onset, offset and zero resistivity values, dTc/dP of -0.6K/GPa was confirmed. The low temperature normal state resistivity followed T^2 dependence suggesting Fermi liquid behaviour both for ambient and high pressure data. This increase in metallic characteristics accompanied by normal state Fermi liquid behaviour is in accordance with a dome structure for Tc variation with varying carrier concentration.

Room temperature magnetic entropy change and magnetoresistance in La_{0.70}(Ca_{0.30-x}Sr_x)MnO_3:Ag 10% (x = 0.0-0.10)

The magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of polycrystalline La0.70(Ca0.30-xSrx)MnO3:Ag 10% manganite have been investigated. All the compositions are crystallized in single phase orthorhombic Pbnm space group. Both, the Insulator-Metal transition temperature (TIM) and Curie temperature (Tc) are observed at 298 K for x = 0.10 composition. Though both TIM and Tc are nearly unchanged with Ag addition, the MR is slightly improved. The MR at 300 K is found to be as large as 31% with magnetic field change of 1Tesla, whereas it reaches up to 49% at magnetic field of 3Tesla for La0.70Ca0.20Sr0.10MnO3:Ag0.10 sample. The maximum entropy change (\DeltaSMmax) is 7.6 J.Kg-1.K-1 upon the magnetic field change of 5Tesla, near its Tc (300.5 K). The La0.70Ca0.20Sr0.10MnO3:Ag0.10 sample having good MR (31%1Tesla, 49%3Tesla) and reasonable change in magnetic entropy (7.6 J.Kg-1.K-1, 5 Tesla) at 300 K can be a potential magnetic refrigerant material at ambient temperatures.

High Field (14Tesla) Magneto Transport of Sm/PrFeAsO

We report high field magneto transport of Sm/PrFeAsO. Below spin density wave transition (TSDW), the magneto-resistance (MR) of Sm/PrFeAsO is positive and increasing with decreasing temperature. The MR of SmFeAsO, is found 16%, whereas the same is 21.5% in case of PrFeAsO, at 2.5 K under applied magnetic field of 14 Tesla (T). In case of SmFeAsO, the variation of isothermal MR with field below 20 K is nonlinear at lower magnetic fields (< 2 Tesla) and the same is linear at moderately higher magnetic fields (H \geq 3.5 T). On the other hand PrFeAsO shows almost linear MR at all temperatures below 20 K. The anomalous behavior of MR being exhibited in PrFeAsO is originated from Dirac cone states. The stronger interplay of Fe and Pr ordered moments is responsible for this distinct behavior. PrFeAsO also shows a hump in resistivity (R-T) with possible conduction band (FeAs) mediated ordering of Pr moments at around 12 K. However the same is absent in SmFeAsO even down to 2 K. Our results of high field magneto-transport of up to 14 Tesla brings about clear distinction between ground states of SmFeAsO and PrFeAsO.

Effect of synthesis temperature on superconducting properties of n-SiC added bulk MgB2 superconductor

We study the effect of synthesis temperature on the phase formation in nano(n)-SiC added bulk MgB2 superconductor. In particular we study: lattice parameters, amount of carbon (C) substitution, microstructure, critical temperature (Tc), irreversibility field (Hirr), critical current density (Jc), upper critical field (Hc2) and flux pinning. Samples of MgB2+(n-SiC)x with x=0.0, 0.05 & 0.10 were prepared at four different synthesis temperatures i.e. 850, 800, 750, and 700oC with the same heating rate as 10oC/min. We found 750oC as the optimal synthesis temperature for n-SiC doping in bulk MgB2 in order to get the best superconducting performance in terms of Jc, Hc2 and Hirr. Carbon (C) substitution enhances the Hc2 while the low temperature synthesis is responsible for the improvement in Jc due to the smaller grain size, defects and nano-inclusion induced by C incorporation into MgB2 matrix, which is corroborated by elaborative HRTEM (high-resolution transmission electron microscopy) results. We optimized the the Tc(R=0) of above 15K for the studied n-SiC doped and 750 0C synthesized MgB2 under 140 KOe field, which is one of the highest values yet obtained for variously processed and nano-particle added MgB2 in literature to our knowledge.

Exploring Core-to-edge Transport in Aditya Tokamak by Oscillations Observed in the edge Radiation

Understanding of the transport in a Tokamak plasma is an important issue. Various mechanisms have been reported in the literature to relate the core phenomenon to edge phenomenon. Sawtooth and Mirnov oscillations caused by MHD instabilities are generally observed in Tokamak discharges. Observation of these effects in the visible radiation from outer edge may offer a possible means to understand the transport.Oscillations in the visible radiation from outer region of the plasma have been observed during recent Aditya discharges. Percentage modulation of these oscillations vary with the Lines of Sight (LOS) of the chords and surfaces on which they terminate. This has been found in both the low frequency (~1 kHz) oscillations that seem to correlate with sawteething in SXR signals and the higher frequency (~10 kHz) oscillations that correlate well with Mirnov signals indicative of m/n=2/1 mode rotation. This suggests that the extent to which the MHD instabilities in the central region of the plasma column are reflected in the edge radiation depends on the interaction of the plasma with the surface at the extremity of the LOS. The release of particle/ energy accompanying the MHD instabilities leads to a large influx of particles from such surfaces. Cross-bispectral analysis suggests that a mode (having frequency of ~20 kHz) is also generated due to the interaction of m/n=1/1 (~10 kHz, seen in SXR) and m/n=2/1 (~10 kHz, seen in Mirnov, Visible & Microwave Interferometer signals). By possible selection rules, this mode seems to be a m/n=3/2 mode. This mode is seen in Mirnov, Visible & Interferometer signals. Behaviour of these oscillations on various LOS and their relation to SXR&Mirnov signals can lead to an understanding of the transport phenomenon. These observations and our interpretations will be presented.

Evidence of Levy stable process in tokamak edge turbulence

In an effort to understand the fundamental physics of turbulent transport of particles and heat in a tokamak, the floating potential fluctuations in the the scrape-off layer plasma of ohmically heated ADITYA tokamak are analysed for self-similarity using distribution function approach. It is observed that the distribution function of a sum of n data points converges to a Levy distribution of scale index, alpha=1.111 for n < 40 and alpha=2.0 for larger n. In both scaling ranges, the edge fluctuation is self-similar. This observation is backed by several supporting evidences. The results indicate that the small scale fluctuations transport matter and heat dominantly by convection whereas the transport due to large scale flucuations is by a diffusive process.
