Final state interactions and CP violation in B decays to three pseudoscalars

We study CP violation and final state interactions between pions and kaons in B+, B-, B0 and bar B0 decays into K pi pi. The weak transition amplitudes consist of two terms: the first part is derived in QCD factorization approach and the second one is a phenomenological long-distance charming penguin contribution. The final state K pi interactions in S- and P-waves are described by strange scalar and vector form factors, respectively. These are determined using a unitary coupled channel model together with chiral symmetry and asymptotic QCD constraints. The final state interactions are dominated by presence of the scalar K*0(1430) and the vector K*(892) resonances. We show that additional charming penguin amplitudes are needed to reproduce the latest experimental K pi effective mass and helicity angle distributions, branching fractions and asymmetries obtained by Belle and BaBar collaborations.

Towards a unitary Dalitz plot analysis of three-body hadronic B decays

A unitary model of the final state kaon pion interaction amplitudes in the B --> K pi pi decays is constructed. The weak decay penguin amplitudes, derived in QCD factorization, are supplemented by phenomenological contributions. The strange kaon- pion scalar and vector form factors are used to calculate the kaon pion effective mass and helicity angle distributions, branching ratios, CP asymmetries and the phase difference between the B0 and anti B0 decay amplitudes to K*(892) pi. The fit on the phenomenological parameters leads to a good agreement with the experimental data, particularly for the B --> K*(892) pi decays. However, our predicted B+- --> K*0(1430) pi+-, K*0(1430)--> K+-pi-+ branching fraction is smaller than the results of the Belle and BaBar collaborations, obtained from isobar model analyses. A new parameterization of the S-wave kaon- pion effective mass distribution, which can be used in future experimental Dalitz plot analyses, is proposed.

Once subtracted Roy-like dispersion relations and a precise analysis of $ππ$ scattering data

We report our progress on the data analysis of $ππ$ scattering data in terms of Forward Dispersion Relations (FDR), as well as Roy equations (RE) and their once-subtracted counterpart, GKPY equations. The first part of the analysis consists of independent fits to the different $ππ$ channels. The GKPY equations provide a more stringent consistency check for the parametrizations of the S0-wave data in the region from 400 to 1100 MeV, In the second part we present our preliminary analysis where the fits are constrained to satisfy all dispersion relations within errors, including the new GKPY Eqs., thus providing a very precise and model independent description of data using just analyticity, causality and crossing.

Once and twice subtracted dispersion relations in the analysis of pi pi amplitudes

Once and twice subtracted crossing symmetric dispersion relations applied to $ππ\to ππ$ scattering data are analyzed and compared. Both sets of dispersion relations can be used to test the $ππ$ amplitudes in low partial waves up to about 1 GeV. We show how once subtracted dispersion relations can provide stronger constraints for $ππ$ amplitudes than twice subtracted ones in the 400 to 1100 MeV range, given the same experimental input.

Gluonium nature of the sigma/f_0(600) from its coupling to KK

We extract the K+K- couplings of the isoscalar scalar mesons sigma/f_0(600) and f_0(980) from pi pi to pi pi / K K scatterings and found: |g_{sigma K+K-}|/ |g_{sigma pi+pi-}|= 0.8 and |g_{f_0 K+K-}|/ |g_{f_0 pi+pi-}|= 1.7. These results, together with the tiny "direct" gamma gamma width of the sigma and its large hadronic width, are a strong indication for the gluonium/glueball nature of the sigma-meson, as predicted by QCD spectral sum rules (QSSR) + some low-energy theorems (LET), while some other assignements (pi pi molecule, tetraquark state and ordinary qq meson) do not satisfy simultaneously these requirements from the data. These properties suggest that the sigma can be a scalar meson associated to the U(1)V conformal anomaly like is the eta'-meson for the U(1)A anomaly.

Sigma pole position and errors of a once and twice subtracted dispersive analysis of pi-pi scattering data

We show how the new precise data on kaon decays together with forward dispersion relations, sum rules and once- and twice-subtracted Roy's equations allow for a precise determination of the sigma meson pole position. We present a comparison and a study of the different sources of uncertainties when using either once- or twice-subtracted Roy's equations to analyze the data. Finally we present a preliminary determination of the sigma pole from the constrained dispersive data analysis.

CP violation and kaon-pion interactions in B --> K pi+ pi- decays

We study CP violation and the contribution of the strong kaon-pion interactions in the three body B --> K pi+ pi- decays. We extend our recent work on the effect of the two-pion S- and P-wave interactions to that of the corresponding kaon-pion ones. The weak amplitudes have a first term derived in QCD factorization and a second one as a phenomenological contribution added to the QCD penguin amplitudes. The effective QCD coefficients include the leading order contributions plus next-to-leading order vertex and penguins corrections. The matrix elements of the transition to the vacuum of the kaon-pion pairs, appearing naturally in the factorization formulation, are described by the strange K pi scalar (S-wave) and vector (P-wave) form factors. These are determined from Muskhelishvili-Omnes coupled channel equations using experimental kaon-pion T-matrix elements, together with chiral symmetry and asymptotic QCD constraints. From the scalar form factor study, the modulus of the K*_0(1430) decay constant is found to be (32 +/- 5) MeV. The additional phenomenological amplitudes are fitted to reproduce the K pi effective mass and helicity angle distributions, the B --> K*(892) pi branching ratios and the CP asymmetries of the recent data from Belle and BaBar collaborations. We use also the new measurement by the BaBar group of the phase difference between the B0 and B0bar decay amplitudes to K*(892) pi. Our predicted B+/- --> K*_0(1430) pi+/-, K*_0(1430) --> K+/- pi-\+ branching fraction, (11.6 +/- 0.6) 10^{-6}, is smaller than the result of the analyzes of both collaborations. For the neutral B0 decays, the predicted value is (11.1 +- 0.5) 10^{-6}. In order to reduce the large systematic uncertainties in the experimental determination of the B --> K*_0(1430) pi branching fractions, a new parametrization is proposed.

In memory of Paco Yndurain: A precise determination of pion-pion scattering from experiment and dispersion relations

This talk is dedicated to the memory of Paco Yndurain, the original speaker in the conference. After a short account of his scientific career, we briefly review our ongoing collaboration to determine precisely the $ππ$ scattering amplitude including the most recent data by means of Forward Dispersion Relations and Roy Equations. A remarkable improvement in precision over the intermediate energy region is obtained by using once-subtracted Roy Equations in addition to the standard twice-subtracted ones.

Precise dispersive data analysis of the f0(600) pole

We review how the use of recent precise data on kaon decays together with forward dispersion relations (FDR) and Roy's equations allow us to determine the sigma resonance pole position very precisely, by using only experimental input. In addition, we present preliminary results for a modified set of Roy-like equations with only one subtraction, that show a remarkable improvement in the precision around the sigma region. We also improve the matching between the parametrizations at low and intermediate energy of the S0 wave, and show that the effect of this on the sigma pole position is negligible.

New dispersion relations in the description of $ππ$ scattering amplitudes

We present a set of once subtracted dispersion relations which implement crossing symmetry conditions for the $ππ$ scattering amplitudes below 1 GeV. We compare and discuss the results obtained for the once and twice subtracted dispersion relations, known as Roy's equations, for three $ππ$ partial JI waves, S0, P and S2. We also show that once subtracted dispersion relations provide a stringent test of crossing and analyticity for $ππ$ partial wave amplitudes, remarkably precise in the 400 to 1.1 GeV region, where the resulting uncertainties are significantly smaller than those coming from standard Roy's equations, given the same input.

Precise analysis of pion-pion scattering data from Roy equations and forward dispersion relations

We review our recent analysis of pion-pion scattering data in terms of Roy equations and Forward Dispersion Relations, and present some preliminary results in terms of a new set of once-subtracted coupled equations for partial waves. The first analysis consists of independent fits to the different pion-pion channels that satisfies rather well the dispersive representation. In the second analysis we constrain the fit with the dispersion relations. The latter provides a very precise and model independent description of data using just analyticity, causality and crossing.

Precise determination of the sigma pole location from a dispersive analysis

We review how the use of recent precise data on kaon decays together with forward dispersion relations (FDR) and Roy's equations allow us to determine the sigma resonance pole position very precisely, by using only experimental input. In addition, we present preliminary results for a modified set of Roy-like equations with only one subtraction, that show a remarkable improvement in the precision around the sigma resonance region. For practical applications, these results are shown to be very well approximated by a very simple conformal expansion.

The pion-pion scattering amplitude. III: Improving the analysis with forward dispersion relations and Roy equations

We complete and improve the fits to experimental $ππ$ scattering amplitudes, both at low and high energies, that we performed in the previous papers of this series. We then verify that the corresponding amplitudes satisfy analyticity requirements, in the form of partial wave analyticity at low energies, forward dispersion relations (FDR) at all energies, and Roy equations below$\bar{K}K$ threshold; the first by construction, the last two, inside experimental errors. Then we repeat the fits including as constraints FDR and Roy equations. The ensuing central values of the various scattering amplitudes verify very accurately FDR and, especially, Roy equations, and change very little from what we found by just fitting data, with the exception of the D2 wave phase shift, for which one parameter moves by $1.5 σ$. These improved parametrizations therefore provide a reliable representation of pion-pion amplitudes with which one can test various physical relations. We also present a list of low energy parameters and other observables. In particular, we find $a_0^{(0)}=0.223\pm0.009 M^{-1}_π$, $a_0^{(2)}=-0.0444\pm0.0045 M^{-1}_π$ and $δ_0^{(0)}(m^2_K)-δ_0^{(2)}(m^2_K)=50.9\pm1.2^{\rm o}$.

CP violation and final state interactions in B --> K pi pi decays

Effects of CP violation and of final state interactions between pairs of pseudoscalar mesons are studied in three-body B+, B-, B0 and antiB0 decays into K pi pi. An alternative approach to the isobar model for three-body B decays is proposed. It is based on the QCD factorization approximation and the knowledge of the meson-meson form factors. Some phenomenological charming penguin amplitudes are needed to describe the branching fractions, direct CP asymmetries of the quasi-two-body B --> K*(892) pi and B --> K0*(1430) pi decays as well as the K pi effective mass and the helicity angle distributions. The experimental branching fractions for the B --> K0*(1430) pi decay, obtained by the Belle and BaBar collaborations using the isobar model, are larger than our predictions by about 52 per cent.

Interference between f0(980) and rho(770) resonances in B --> pion-pion-kaon decays

We study the contribution of the strong interaction between the two pions in S- and P-waves to the weak B --> pion pion kaon decay amplitudes. The interference between these two waves is analyzed in the pion-pion effective mass range of the rho(770) and f0(980) resonances. We use a unitary pion-pion and antikaon-kaon coupled-channel model to describe the S-wave interactions and a Breit-Wigner function for the P-wave amplitude. The weak B-decay amplitudes, obtained from QCD factorization, are supplemented with charming penguin contributions in both waves. The four complex parameters of these long distance terms are determined by fitting the model to the BaBar and Belle data on B^{+,-,0} --> pi+ pi- K^{+,-,0} branching fractions, CP asymmetries, pion-pion effective mass and helicity-angle distributions. This set of data, and in particular the large direct CP-asymmetry for B^{+,-} --> rho0(770) K^{+,-} decays, is well reproduced. The interplay of charming penguin amplitudes and the interference of S- and P-waves describes rather successfully the experimental S and A values of the CP-violating asymmetry for both B0 --> f0(980) K0S and B0 --> rho0(770) K0S decays.

Strong and Weak Interactions in B to pi+ pi- K Decays

To describe the weak three-body B decays into pi+ pi- K, we recently derived amplitudes based on two-body QCD factorization followed by pi+ pi- final state interactions in isoscalar S- and isovector P-waves. We study here the sensitivity of the results to the values of the B to f0(980) transition form factor and to the effective decay constant of the f0(980).
