Augmented Superfield Approach to Gauge-invariant Massive 2-Form Theory

We discuss the complete sets of the off-shell nilpotent (i.e. s^2_{(a)b} = 0) and absolutely anticommuting (i.e. s_b s_{ab} + s_{ab} s_b = 0) Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) (s_b) and anti-BRST (s_{ab}) symmetries for the (3+1)-dimensional (4D) gauge-invariant massive 2-form theory within the framework of augmented superfield approach to BRST formalism. In this formalism, we obtain the coupled (but equivalent) Lagrangian densities which respect both BRST and anti-BRST symmetries on the constrained hypersurface defined by the Curci-Ferrari type conditions. The absolute anticommutativity property of the (anti-)BRST transformations (and corresponding generators) is ensured by the existence of the Curci-Ferrari type conditions which emerge very naturally in this formalism. Furthermore, the gauge-invariant restriction plays a decisive role in deriving the proper (anti-)BRST transformations for the St{ü}ckelberg-like vector field.

Bose-Einstein condensation of triplons in the S=1 tetramer antiferromagnet K2Ni2(MoO4)3: A compound close to quantum critical point

The structure of K2Ni2(MoO4)3 consists of S=1 tetramers formed by Ni^{2+} ions. The magnetic susceptibility chi(T) and specific heat Cp(T) data on a single crystal show a broad maximum due to the low-dimensionality of the system with short-range spin correlations. A sharp peak is seen in chi(T) and Cp(T) at about 1.13 K, well below the broad maximum. This is an indication of magnetic long-range order i.e., the absence of spin-gap in the ground state. Interestingly, the application of a small magnetic field (H>0.1 T) induces magnetic behavior akin to Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of triplon excitations observed in some spin-gap materials. Our results demonstrate that the temperature-field (T-H) phase boundary follows a power-law (T-T_{N})propotional to H^(1/alpha) with the exponent 1/alpha close to 2/3, as predicted for BEC scenario. The observation of BEC of triplon excitations in small H infers that K2Ni2(MoO4)3 is located in the proximity of a quantum critical point, which separates the magnetically ordered and spin-gap regions of the phase diagram.

Search for heavy neutrinos at Belle

We report on a search for heavy neutrinos in B-meson decays. The results are obtained using a data sample that contains 772x10^6 BB-bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. No signal is observed and upper limits are set on mixing of heavy neutrinos with left-handed neutrinos of the Standard Model in the mass range 0.5 - 5.0 GeV/c^2.

Measurement of the $τ$ lepton polarization and $R(D^*)$ in the decay $\bar{B} \to D^* τ^- \barν_τ$

We report the first measurement of the $τ$ lepton polarization $P_τ(D^*)$ in the decay $\bar{B} \rightarrow D^* τ^- \barν_τ$ as well as a new measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions $R(D^{*}) = \mathcal{B}(\bar {B} \rightarrow D^* τ^- \barν_τ) / \mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow D^* \ell^- \barν_\ell)$, where $\ell^-$ denotes an electron or a muon, and the $τ$ is reconstructed in the modes $τ^- \rightarrow π^- ν_τ$ and $τ^- \rightarrow ρ^- ν_τ$. We use the full data sample of $772 \times 10^6$ $B{\bar B}$ pairs recorded with the Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider. Our results, $P_τ(D^*) = -0.38 \pm 0.51 {\rm (stat.)} ^{+0.21}_{-0.16} {\rm (syst.)}$ and $R(D^*) = 0.270 \pm 0.035{\rm (stat.)} ^{+0.028}_{-0.025}{\rm (syst.)}$, are consistent with the theoretical predictions of the Standard Model.

First measurement of $\boldsymbol{T}$-odd moments in $\boldsymbol{D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}}$ decays

We report the first measurement of the $T$-odd moments in the decay $D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}$ from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $966\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. From these moments we determine the $CP$-violation-sensitive asymmetry $a_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}} = \left[-0.28 \pm 1.38 ~(\rm{stat.}) ^{+0.23}_{-0.76} ~(\rm{syst.})\right] \times 10^{-3}$, which is consistent with no $CP$ violation. In addition, we perform $a_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}}$ measurements in different regions of the $D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} π^{+} π^{-} π^{0}$ phase space; these are also consistent with no $CP$ violation.

Preferential Heating and Acceleration of Heavy Ions in Impulsive Solar Flares

We simulate decaying turbulence in a homogeneous pair plasma using three dimensional electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) method. A uniform background magnetic field permeates the plasma such that the magnetic pressure is three times larger than the thermal pressure and the turbulence is generated by counter-propagating shear Alfvén waves. The energy predominately cascades transverse to the background magnetic field, rendering the turbulence anisotropic at smaller scales. We simultaneously move several ion species of varying charge to mass ratios in our simulation and show that the particles of smaller charge to mass ratios are heated and accelerated to non-thermal energies at a faster rate, in accordance with the enhancement of heavy ions and non-thermal tail in their energy spectrum observed in the impulsive solar flares. We further show that the heavy ions are energized mostly in the direction perpendicular to the background magnetic field with a rate consistent with our analytical estimate of the rate of heating due to cyclotron resonance with the Alfvén waves of which a large fraction is due to obliquely propagating waves.

Orlicz Spaces with Bicomplex Scalars

In this paper we define bicomplex Orlicz space with hyperbolic valued Luxemburg norm and discussed some of their properties. We have also partially characterize an integral representation of a $\mathbb{D}$-valued convex function. Further we have shown that the spectrum of the unilateral shift operator on $l^2(\mathbb{BC})$ is the null cone $\mathcal{NC}$.

Measurement of the branching ratio of $\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^{*+} τ^- \barν_τ$ relative to $\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^{*+} \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$ decays with a semileptonic tagging method

We report a measurement of the ratio ${\cal R}(D^*) = {\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^{*+} τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow D^{*+} \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We select a sample of $B^0 \bar{B}^0$ pairs by reconstructing both $B$ mesons in semileptonic decays to $D^{*\mp} \ell^{\pm}$. We measure ${\cal R}(D^*)= 0.302 \pm 0.030({\rm stat)} \pm 0.011({\rm syst)}$, which is within $1.6 σ$ of the Standard Model theoretical expectation, where the standard deviation $σ$ includes systematic uncertainties. We use this measurement to constrain several scenarios of new physics in a model-independent approach.

On augmented superfield approach to vector Schwinger model

We exploit the techniques of Bonora-Tonin superfield formalism to derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting (anti-)BRST as well as (anti-)co-BRST symmetry transformations for the (1+1)-dimensional (2D) bosonized vector Schwinger model. In the derivation of above symmetries, we invoke the (dual)-horizontality conditions as well as gauge and (anti-)co-BRST invariant restrictions on the superfields that are defined onto the (2, 2)-dimensional supermanifold. We provide geometrical interpretation of the above nilpotent symmetries (and their corresponding charges). We also express the nilpotency and absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST charges within the framework of augmented superfield formalism.

Ba$_{3}$M$_{x}$Ti$_{3-x}$O$_{9}$(M = Ir, Rh): A family of 5\textit{\textcolor{black}{d}}/4\textit{\textcolor{black}{d}}-based, diluted quantum spin liquids

We report the structural and magnetic properties of the 4}\textit{\textcolor{black}{d }}\textcolor{black}{(M = Rh) based and 5}\textit{\textcolor{black}{d }}\textcolor{black}{(M = Ir) based systems Ba$_{3}$M$_{x}$Ti$_{3-x}$O$_{9}$ (nominally $x$ = 0.5, 1). The studied compositions were found to crystallize in a hexagonal structure with the centrosymmetric space group }$P6_{3}/mmc$.\textcolor{black}{{} The structures comprise of A$_{2}$O$_{9}$ polyhedra (with the A site (possibly) statistically occupied by M and Ti) in which pairs of transition metal ions are stacked along the crystallographic }\textit{\textcolor{black}{c}}\textcolor{black}{-axis. These pairs form triangular bilayers in the $ab$-plane. The magnetic Rh and Ir ions occupy these bilayers, diluted by Ti ions even for $x$ = 1. These bilayers are separated by a triangular layer which is dominantly occupied by Ti ions. From magnetization measurements we infer strong antiferromagnetic couplings for all of the materials but the absence of any spin-freezing or spin-ordering down to 2~K. Further, specific heat measurements down to 0.35~K show no sign of a phase transition for any of the compounds. Based on these thermodynamic measurements we propose the emergence of a quantum spin liquid ground state for Ba$_{3}$Rh$_{0.5}$Ti$_{2.5}$O$_{9}$, and Ba$_{3}$Ir$_{0.5}$Ti$_{2.5}$O$_{9}$, in addition to the already reported Ba$_{3}$IrTi$_{2}$O$_{9}$. }

Evolution of Microstructure and Relaxor Ferroelectric Properties in (La_zBa_(1-z)(Ti0.80Sn0.20)O3

We report a study on a series of lanthanum doped barium stannate-titanate (LBTS) ceramics towards correlating their microstructure with ferroelectric properties. The samples were prepared by solid state reaction technique and the XRD analysis indicated predominantly single phase microstructure. Scanning Electron Microscopy revealed that while a low La doping of 1 atomic % yielded inhibited grain growth in 1LBTS, higher amounts of La doping yield larger leafy grains. This peculiar grain growth and microstructure evolution could be attributed to the combination of the following two competing factors: (i) suppression of O vacancies due to La doping leading to grain growth inhibition and (ii) enhancement of mechanism leading to nucleation and growth of 2-D (leafy) grains for La doping higher than 2 atomic % due to eutectic phenomena. Dielectric permittivity measurements indicate that addition of La enhances diffused phase transition in BTS, but its frequency dependence is observed only at 2 atomic % La doping. This signature relaxor behaviour and the increase in the intensity of a particular Raman peak with La doping, as well as non-saturated PE hysteresis loops confirm the presence of polar nano-regions for 2 and 3 atomic % La doped BTS. However significant enhancement in dielectric permittivity could not be achieved due to reduced grain size.

Novel Symmetries in Christ-Lee Model

We demonstrate that the gauge-fixed Lagrangian of the Christ-Lee model respects four fermionic symmetries, namely; (anti-)BRST symmetries, (anti-)co-BRST symmetries within the framework of BRST formalism. The appropriate anticommutators amongst the fermionic symmetries lead to a unique bosonic symmetry. It turns out that the algebra obeyed by the symmetry transformations (and their corresponding conserved charges) is reminiscent of the algebra satisfied by the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry. We also provide the physical realizations of the cohomological operators in terms of the symmetry properties. Thus, the present model provides a simple model for the Hodge theory.

Measurement of the CKM angle $φ_1$ in $B^0\to\bar{D}{}^{(*)0}h^0$, $\bar{D}{}^0\to K_S^0π^+π^-$ decays with time-dependent binned Dalitz plot analysis

We report a measurement of the CP violation parameter $φ_1$ obtained in a time-dependent analysis of $B^0\to\bar{D}{}^{(*)0}h^0$ decays followed by $\bar{D}{}^0\to K_S^0π^+π^-$ decay. A model-independent measurement is performed using the binned Dalitz plot technique. The measured value is $φ_1 = 11.7^{\circ}\pm7.8^{\circ}({\rm stat.})\pm 2.1^{\circ}({\rm syst.})$. Treating $\sin{2φ_1}$ and $\cos{2φ_1}$ as independent parameters, we obtain $\sin{2φ_1} = 0.43\pm 0.27({\rm stat.})\pm 0.08({\rm syst.})$ and $\cos{2φ_1} = 1.06\pm 0.33({\rm stat.})^{+0.21}_{-0.15}({\rm syst.})$. The results are obtained with a full data sample of $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs collected near the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Radiation Tests of Real-Sized Prototype RPCs for the Future CMS RPC Upscope

We report on a systematic study of double-gap and four-gap phenolic resistive plate chambers (RPCs) for future high-η RPC triggers in the CMS. In the present study, we constructed real-sized double-gap and four-gap RPCs with gap thicknesses of 1.6 and 0.8 mm, respectively, with 2-mm-thick phenolic high-pressure-laminated (HPL) plates. We examined the prototype RPCs for cosmic rays and 100 GeV muons provided by the SPS H4 beam line at CERN. We applied maximum gamma rates of 1.5 kHz cm-2 provided by 137Cs sources at Korea University and the GIF++ irradiation facility installed at the SPS H4 beam line to examine the rate capabilities of the prototype RPCs. In contrast to the case of the four-gap RPCs, we found the relatively high threshold was conducive to effectively suppressing the rapid increase of strip cluster sizes of muon hits with high voltage, especially when measuring the narrow-pitch strips. The gamma-induced currents drawn in the four-gap RPC were about one-fourth of those drawn in the double-gap RPC. The rate capabilities of both RPC types, proven through the present testing using gamma-ray sources, far exceeded the maximum rate expected in the new high-η endcap RPCs planned for future phase-II LHC runs.

Observation of the decay $B_s^0\rightarrow K^0\overline{K}^0$

We measure the decay $B_s^0\rightarrow K^0\overline{K}^0$ using data collected at the $Υ(5S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 121.4 ${\rm fb^{-1}}$. We measure a branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0\rightarrow K^0\overline{K}^0) = [19.6\,^{+5.8}_{-5.1}({\rm stat.})\,\pm1.0({\rm sys.})\,\pm 2.0(N^{}_{B_s^0\overline{B}_s^0})]\times 10^{-6}$ with a significance of 5.1 standard deviations. This measurement constitutes the first observation of this decay.

Quantum Spin Liquid State in the Disordered Triangular Lattice Sc2Ga2CuO7

We present microscopic magnetic properties of a two dimensional triangular lattice Sc2Ga2CuO7, consisting of single and double triangular Cu planes. A Curie-Weiss temperature theta_CW = --44 K and an antiferromagnetic (AFM) exchange interaction J/KB = 35 K between Cu2+ (S = 1/2) spins in the triangular bi-plane are obtained from the analysis of magnetic susceptibility data. The intrinsic magnetic susceptibility extracted from 71Ga NMR shift data displays the presence of AFM short range spin correlations and remains finite down to 50 mK suggesting an non-singlet ground state. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T1) reveals a slowing down of Cu2+ spin fluctuations with decreasing T down to 100 mK. Magnetic specific heat (Cm) and 1/T1 exhibit a power law behavior at low temperatures implying gapless nature of the spin excitation spectrum. Absence of long range magnetic ordering down to ~ J/700, nonzero spin susceptibility at low T, and power law behavior of Cm and 1/T1 suggest a gapless quantum spin liquid (QSL) state. Our results demonstrate that persistent spin dynamics induced by frustration maintain a quantum-disordered state at T -> 0 in this triangular lattice antiferromagnet. This suggests that the low energy modes are dominated by spinon excitations in the QSL state due to randomness engendered by disorder and frustration.

Inclusive and exclusive measurements of $B$ decays to $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ at Belle

We report inclusive and exclusive measurements for $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ production in $B$ decays. We measure $\mathcal{B}(B \to χ_{c1} X)$= $(3.03 \pm 0.05(\mbox{stat}) \pm 0.24(\mbox{syst})) \times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(B \to χ_{c2} X)$= $(0.70 \pm 0.06(\mbox{stat}) \pm 0.10(\mbox{syst})) \times 10^{-3}$. For the first time, $χ_{c2}$ production in exclusive $B$ decays in the modes $B^0 \to χ_{c2}π^- K^+$ and $B^+ \to χ_{c2} π^+ π^- K^+$ has been observed, along with first evidence for the $B^+ \to χ_{c2} π^+ K_S^0$ decay mode. For $χ_{c1}$ production, we report the first observation in the $B^+ \to χ_{c1} π^+ π^- K^+$, $B^0 \to χ_{c1} π^+ π^- K_S^0$ and $B^0 \to χ_{c1} π^0 π^- K^+$ decay modes. Using these decay modes, we observe a difference in the production mechanism of $χ_{c2}$ in comparison to $χ_{c1}$ in $B$ decays. In addition, we report searches for $X(3872)$ and $χ_{c1}(2P)$ in the $B^+ \to (χ_{c1} π^+ π^-) K^+$ decay mode. The reported results use $772 \times 10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ events collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

New observables for multiple-parton interactions measurements using Z + jets process at the LHC

Multiple-parton interactions play a vital role in hadron-hadron collisions. This paper presents a study of the multiple-parton interactions with simulated Z + jets events in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The events are simulated with POWHEG followed by hadronization and parton-showering using PYTHIA 8. The events with dimuon invariant mass in the range of 60--120 GeV are selected for the analysis. The charged particle jets, having minimum transverse momentum of 5 GeV and absolute pseudo-rapidity less than 2, are used to construct the observables for measurements of the multiple-parton interactions. The proposed observables and phase-space region presented in this paper found to have enhanced sensitivity to multiple-parton interactions. The increased sensitivity to MPI will be lead to precise constraints on the parameters of the MPI models.
