Expression with self-consistent magnetic units for calculation of critical current density using the Bean's Model

This study analyzes the calculation of the critical current density Jc,mag by means of Bean's critical state model, using the equation formulated by Gyorgy et al. and other similar equations derived from it reported in the literature. While estimations of Jc,mag using Bean's model are widely performed, improper use of different equations with different magnetic units and pre-factors leads to confusion and to significant errors in the reported values of Jc,mag. In this work, a SINGLE general equation is proposed for the calculation of Jc,mag for a rectangular parallelepiped sample in perpendicular field using Bean's critical state model, underlying how the simple conversion of magnetic units can lead to a Jc,mag in the desired units, without the need to introduce any other correction or use other specific equations depending on the units of Jc,mag. In this equation, the numerical pre-factor is dimensionless, independent of the unit system used. A comparison between the expression reported in the literature is done, showing how they can lead to different results depending on the used units, and that these results can be at least one order of magnitude different from the correct results obtained with the general equation proposed in this work. This resolves all ambiguities and aligns with the correct dimensional analysis, eliminates discrepancies in the calculated Jc,mag, and will avoid further propagation of errors in the literature.

Observation of $Ω(2012)^- \to Ξ(1530)\bar{K}$ and measurement of the effective couplings of $Ω(2012)^-$ to $Ξ(1530)\bar{K}$ and $Ξ\bar{K}$

Using $Υ(1S)$, $Υ(2S)$, and $Υ(3S)$ data collected by the Belle detector, we discover a new three-body decay, $Ω(2012)^-\toΞ(1530)\bar K\toΞπ\bar K$, with a significance of 5.2~$σ$. The mass of the $Ω(2012)^-$ is $(2012.5\pm0.7\pm0.5)$ MeV and its effective couplings to $Ξ(1530)\bar{K}$ and $Ξ\bar{K}$ are $(39^{+31}_{-39}\pm9)\times10^{-2}$ and $(1.7\pm0.3\pm0.3)\times10^{-2}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ratio of the branching fraction for the three-body decay to that for the two-body decay to $Ξ\bar{K}$ is $0.99\pm0.26\pm0.06$, assuming isospin symmetry.

Investigating the fission-like fragments in the $^{12}$C + $^{208}$Pb system at E$^{\star}$ $\approx$ 31.8--45.4 MeV

In this work, the cross-sections of 25 fission-like fragments within the mass range 76$\leq$A$\leq$141, expected to be populated via fission of moderately excited compound nucleus produced as a result of complete and/or incomplete fusion in $^{12}$C+$^{208}$Pb reaction at E$_{\rm lab}$ = 81.9 and 75.8 MeV, have been measured using activation technique followed by offline $γ$-ray spectroscopy. The yields of different fission-like fragments have been analyzed to generate isotopic and isobaric yield distributions. The value of the mass dispersion parameter, $σ^2_A$, is found to be 2.93 and 2.65 for Antimony (Sb) isotope at excitation energy E$^{\star}$ = 45.4 and 39.6 MeV, and 1.24 for Indium (In) isotope at E$^{\star}$ = 45.4 MeV. The charge dispersion parameter $σ_Z$ for Sb is estimated to be 0.769 and 0.714 at E$^{\star}$ = 45.4 and 39.6 MeV, respectively. For In isotopes, the value of $σ_Z$ is estimated to be 0.430 at E$^{\star}$ = 45.4 MeV. The value of mass and charge dispersion parameters for Sb and In isotopes have been found to be in good agreement with the values reported in the literature for similar systems. The mass distribution of fission-like fragments is found to be fitted with a Gaussian function, except for a few data points, indicating their population via compound nucleus fission. Further, the mass variance ($σ^2_M$) displays linear increment with an increase in excitation energy. Two medically important isotopes, $^{99m}$Tc and $^{111}$In, are populated in this system, suggesting a potential formation route.

Magnetic structure and crystal field states of antiferromagnetic CeNiGe$_3$: Neutron scattering and $μ$SR investigations

We present the results of microscopic investigations of antiferromagnetic CeNiGe$_3$, using neutron powder diffraction (NPD), inelastic neutron scattering (INS), and muon spin relaxation ($μ$SR) measurements. CeNiGe$_3$ crystallizes in a centrosymmetric orthorhombic crystal structure (space group: $Cmmm$) and undergoes antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering. The occurrence of long-range AFM ordering at $T_{\rm N} \approx 5.2$~K is confirmed by magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity, neutron diffraction, and $μ$SR measurements. The NPD data characterize the AFM state with an incommensurate helical magnetic structure having a propagation vector $k$ = (0, 0.41, 1/2). In addition, INS measurements at 10~K identified two crystal electric field (CEF) excitations at 9.17~meV and 18.42~meV. We analyzed the INS data using a CEF model for an orthorhombic environment of Ce$^{3+}$ ($J=5/2$) and determined the CEF parameters and ground state wavefunctions of CeNiGe$_3$. Moreover, zero-field $μ$SR data for CeNiGe$_3$ at $T< T_{\rm N}$ show long-range AFM ordering with three distinct oscillation frequencies corresponding to three different internal fields at the muon sites. The internal fields at the muon-stopping sites have been further investigated using density functional theory calculations.

Search for $h_b(2P)\toγχ_{bJ}(1P)$ at $\sqrt{s} = 10.860$ GeV

In the bottomonium sector, the hindered magnetic dipole (M1) transitions between P-wave states $h_b(2P) \rightarrow χ_{bJ}(1P) γ$, $J=0, \, 1, \, 2$, are expected to be severely suppressed according to the Relativized Quark Model, due to the spin flip of the $b$ quark. Nevertheless, a recent model following the coupled-channel approach predicts the corresponding branching fractions to be enhanced by orders of magnitude. In this Letter, we report the first search for such transitions. We find no significant signals and set upper limits at 90% CL on the corresponding branching fractions: $\mathcal{B}[h_b(2P)\toγχ_{b0}(1P)] < 2.7 \times 10^{-1}$, $\mathcal{B}[h_b(2P)\toγχ_{b1}(1P)] < 5.4 \times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}[h_b(2P)\toγχ_{b2}(1P)] < 1.3 \times 10^{-2}$. These values help to constrain the parameters of the coupled-channel models. The results are obtained using a $121.4 \, fb^{-1}$ data sample taken around $\sqrt{s}= 10.860 \, GeV$ with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Angular analysis of $B \to K^* e^+ e^-$ in the low-$q^2$ region with new electron identification at Belle

We perform an angular analysis of the $B\to K^* e^+ e^-$ decay for the dielectron mass squared, $q^2$, range of $0.0008$ to $1.1200 ~\text{GeV}^2 /c^4$ using the full Belle data set in the $K^{*0} \to K^+ π^-$ and $K^{*+} \to K_S^0 π^+$ channels, incorporating new methods of electron identification to improve the statistical power of the data set. This analysis is sensitive to contributions from right-handed currents from physics beyond the Standard Model by constraining the Wilson coefficients $\mathcal{C}_7^{(\prime)}$. We perform a fit to the $B\to K^* e^+ e^-$ differential decay rate and measure the imaginary component of the transversality amplitude to be $A_T^{\rm Im} = -1.27 \pm 0.52 \pm 0.12$, and the $K^*$ transverse asymmetry to be $A_T^{(2)} = 0.52 \pm 0.53 \pm 0.11$, with $F_L$ and $A_T^{\rm Re}$ fixed to the Standard Model values. The resulting constraints on the value of $\mathcal{C}_7^{\prime}$ are consistent with the Standard Model within a $2σ$ confidence interval.

Unravelling the asphericities in the explosion and multi-faceted circumstellar matter of SN 2023ixf

We present a detailed investigation of photometric, spectroscopic, and polarimetric observations of the Type II SN 2023ixf. Earlier studies have provided compelling evidence for a delayed shock breakout from a confined dense circumstellar matter (CSM) enveloping the progenitor star. The temporal evolution of polarization in SN~2023ixf revealed three distinct peaks in polarization evolution at 1.4 d, 6.4 d, and 79.2 d, indicating an asymmetric dense CSM, an aspherical shock front and clumpiness in the low-density extended CSM, and an aspherical inner ejecta/He-core. SN 2023ixf displayed two dominant axes, one along the CSM-outer ejecta and the other along the inner ejecta/He-core, showcasing the independent origin of asymmetry in the early and late evolution. The argument for an aspherical shock front is further strengthened by the presence of a high-velocity broad absorption feature in the blue wing of the Balmer features in addition to the P-Cygni absorption post 16 d. Hydrodynamical light curve modeling indicated a progenitor of 10 solar mass with a radius of 470 solar radii and explosion energy of 2e51 erg, along with 0.06 solar mass of 56-Ni, though these properties are not unique due to modeling degeneracies. The modeling also indicated a two-zone CSM: a confined dense CSM extending up to 5e14 cm, with a mass-loss rate of 1e-2 solar mass per year, and an extended CSM spanning from 5e14 cm to at least 1e16cm with a mass-loss rate of 1e-4 solar mass per year, both assuming a wind-velocity of 10 km/s. The early nebular phase observations display an axisymmetric line profile of [OI], red-ward attenuation of the emission of Halpha post 125 days, and flattening in the Ks-band, marking the onset of dust formation.

Laser-Driven Proton-Only Acceleration in a Multicomponent Near-Critical-Density Plasma

An experimental investigation of collisionless shock ion acceleration is presented using a multicomponent plasma and a high-intensity picosecond duration laser pulse. Protons are the only accelerated ions when a near-critical-density plasma is driven by a laser with a modest normalized vector potential. The results of particle-in-cell simulations imply that collisionless shock may accelerate protons alone selectively, which can be an important tool for understanding the physics of inaccessible collisionless shocks in space and astrophysical plasma.

Magnetic Phase Diagram of Rouaite, Cu$_2$(OH)$_3$NO$_3$

Spinon-magnon mixing was recently reported in botallackite Cu$_2$(OH)$_3$Br with a uniaxially compressed triangular lattice of Cu$^{2+}$ quantum spins [Zhang et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 037204 (2020)]. Its nitrate counterpart rouaite, Cu$_2$(OH)$_3$NO$_3$, has a highly analogous structure and might be expected to exhibit similar physics. To lay a foundation for research on this material, we clarify rouaite's magnetic phase diagram and identify both low-field phases. The low-temperature magnetic state consists of alternating ferro- and antiferromagnetic chains, as in botallackite, but with additional canting, leading to net moments on all chains which rotate from one chain to another to form a 90$^\circ$ cycloidal pattern. The higher-temperature phase is a helical modulation of this order, wherein the spins rotate from one Cu plane to the next. This extends to zero temperature for fields perpendicular to the chains, leading to a set of low-temperature field-induced phase transitions. Rouaite may offer another platform for spinon-magnon mixing, while our results suggest a delicate balance of interactions and high tunability of the magnetism.

Search for charmed baryons in the $Λ_c^+η$ system and measurement of the branching fractions of $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $Λ_c^+η$ and $pD^0$ relative to $Σ_c(2455)π$

We search for excited charmed baryons in the $Λ_c^+η$ system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the $Λ_c^+η$ mass spectrum, including the known $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$. Clear $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ signals are observed in the $pD^0$ mass spectrum. We set upper limits at 90\% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $Λ_c^+η$ relative to $Σ_c(2455)π$ of $<0.13$ for the $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $<1.11$ for the $Λ_c(2940)^+$. We measure ratios of branching fractions of $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $pD^0$ relative to $Σ_c(2455)π$ of $0.75 \pm 0.03(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.07(\text{syst.})$ for the $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $3.59 \pm 0.21(\text{stat.}) \pm 0.56(\text{syst.})$ for the $Λ_c(2940)^+$.

Search for the decay $B_s^0\to J/ψπ^0$ at Belle experiment

We have analyzed 121.4 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(5S)$ resonance by the Belle experiment using the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider to search for the decay $B_s^0\to J/ψπ^0$. We observe no signal and report an upper limit on the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0\to J/ψπ^0)$ of $1.21\times 10^{-5}$ at 90\% confidence level. This result is the most stringent, improving the previous bound by two orders of magnitude.

Evidence of $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ decay and search for $h_{b}(\text{1P,2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})π^0$ with the Belle detector

We report the first evidence for the $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ transition with a significance of $3.5$ standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η]=(7.1 ~^{+3.7} _{-3.2}\pm 0.8)\times10^{-3}$, which is noticeably smaller than expected. We also set upper limits on $π^0$ transitions of $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})π^0] < 1.8\times10^{-3}$, and $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{1P})\to Υ(\text{1S})π^0] < 1.8\times10^{-3}$, at the $90\%$ confidence level. These results are obtained with a $131.4$~fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected near the $Υ(\text{5S})$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider.

Search for a heavy neutral lepton that mixes predominantly with the tau neutrino

We report a search for a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) that mixes predominantly with $ν_τ$. The search utilizes data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The data sample was collected at and just below the center-of-mass energies of the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances and has an integrated luminosity of $915~\textrm{fb}^{-1}$, corresponding to $(836\pm 12)\times 10^6$ $e^+e^\toτ^+τ^-$ events. We search for production of the HNL (denoted $N$) in the decay $τ^-\to π^- N$ followed by its decay via $N \to μ^+μ^- ν_τ$. The search focuses on the parameter-space region in which the HNL is long lived, so that the $μ^+μ^-$ originate from a common vertex that is significantly displaced from the collision point of the KEKB beams. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. We report limits on the mixing parameter of the HNL with the $τ$ neutrino as a function of the HNL mass.

An Optical Gamma-Ray Burst Catalogue with Measured Redshift PART I: Data Release of 535 Gamma-Ray Bursts and Colour Evolution

We present the largest optical photometry compilation of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) with redshifts ($z$). We include 64813 observations of 535 events (including upper limits) from 28 February 1997 up to 18 August 2023. We also present a user-friendly web tool \textit{grbLC} which allows users the visualization of photometry, coordinates, redshift, host galaxy extinction, and spectral indices for each event in our database. Furthermore, we have added a Gamma Ray Coordinate Network (GCN) scraper that can be used to collect data by gathering magnitudes from the GCNs. The web tool also includes a package for uniformly investigating colour evolution. We compute the optical spectral indices for 138 GRBs for which we have at least 4 filters at the same epoch in our sample and craft a procedure to distinguish between GRBs with and without colour evolution. By providing a uniform format and repository for the optical catalogue, this web-based archive is the first step towards unifying several community efforts to gather the photometric information for all GRBs with known redshifts. This catalogue will enable population studies by providing light curves (LCs) with better coverage since we have gathered data from different ground-based locations. Consequently, these LCs can be used to train future LC reconstructions for an extended inference of the redshift. The data gathering also allows us to fill some of the orbital gaps from Swift in crucial points of the LCs, e.g., at the end of the plateau emission or where a jet break is identified.

Search for Two-Body $B$ Meson Decays to $Λ^{0}$ and $Ω^{(*)0}_{c}$

We report the results of the first search for Standard Model and baryon-number-violating two-body decays of the neutral $B$ mesons to $Λ^{0}$ and $Ω^{(*)0}_c$ using 711~${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. We observe no evidence of signal from any such decays and set 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the products of $B^0$ and $\bar{B}^0$ branching fractions for these two-body decays with $\mathcal{B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to π^+ Ω^-)$ in the range between 9.5~$\times 10^{-8}$ and 31.2~$\times 10^{-8}$.

Discovery of a hot post-AGB star in Galactic globular cluster E3

We report a new hot post-asymptotic giant branch (PAGB) star in the Galactic globular cluster (GC) E3, which is one of the first of the identified PAGB stars in a GC to show a binary signature. The star stands out as the brightest source in E3 in the \mbox{\em Astrosat}/UVIT images. We confirmed its membership with the cluster E3 using Gaia DR3 kinematics and parallax measurements. We supplemented the photometric observations with radial velocities (RVs) from high-resolution spectroscopic observations at two epochs and with ground- and space-based photometric observations from 0.13 $μ$m to 22 $μ$m. We find that the RVs vary over $\sim$6 \kms\ between the two epochs. This is an indication of the star being in a binary orbit. A simulation of possible binary systems with the observed RVs suggests a binary period of either 39.12 days or 17.83 days with mass ratio q$\geq$1.0. The [Fe/H] derived using the high-resolution spectra is $\sim -$0.7 dex, which closely matches the cluster metallicity. The spectroscopic and photometric measurements suggest \Teff\ and $\log g$ of the star as 17\,500$\pm$1\,000~K and 2.37$\pm$0.20~dex, respectively. Various PAGB evolutionary tracks on the Hertzsprung--Russell (H-R) diagram suggest a current mass of the star in the range 0.51$-$0.55 \Msun. The star is enriched with C and O abundances, showing similar CNO abundances compared to the other PAGB stars in GCs with the evidence of the third dredge-up on the AGB phase.

We search for the baryon and lepton number violating charm decays, $D \rightarrow p\ell$, where $D$ is either a $D^0$ or a $\overline{D}^0$ and $\ell$ is a muon or an electron, using a data sample of $921\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. In the absence of significant signals, we set upper limits on the branching fractions in the range $(5 - 8) \times 10^{-7}$ at a 90\% confidence level, depending on the decay mode.

(Anti-)BRST Symmetries in FLRW Model: Supervariable Approach

Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) model, representing the isotropic and homogeneous Universe, has an inherent diffeomorphism (or reparametrization) invariance. For a given local time-reparametrization symmetry transformation of (0+1)-dimensional (1D) diffeomorphism invariant FLRW model, we derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting (anti-)BRST symmetry transformations in a consistent manner. The supervariable approach to BRST formalism is used as a guiding tool in finding the proper (anti-)BRST transformations. An application of (super-)diffeomorphism invariance, in the context of superspace formalism, yields horizontality conditions. Moreover, the celebrated CF-type condition which is universal for 1D diffeomorphism invariant theories, emerges as an off-shoot of the horizontality condition and provides the absolute anticommutativity of the (anti-)BRST transformations. In addition, this CF-type condition leads to the derivation of coupled (but equivalent) (anti-)BRST invariant quantum Lagrangians for FLRW model. We also capture the geometrical interpretation of the (anti-)BRST transformations and their properties in terms of the Grassmannian translational generators and supervariables.
