Smallness of the cosmological constant and the multiple point principle

In this talk we argue that the breakdown of global symmetries in no--scale supergravity (SUGRA), which ensures the vanishing of the vacuum energy density near the physical vacuum, leads to a natural realisation of the multiple point principle (MPP). In the MPP inspired SUGRA models the cosmological constant is naturally tiny.

Theoretical upper bound on the mass of the LSP in the MNSSM

We study the neutralino sector of the Minimal Non-minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MNSSM) where the $μ$ problem of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is solved without accompanying problems related with the appearance of domain walls. In the MNSSM as in the MSSM the lightest neutralino can be the absolutely stable lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) providing a good candidate for the cold dark matter component of the Universe. In contrast with the MSSM the allowed range of the mass of the lightest neutralino in the MNSSM is limited. We establish the theoretical upper bound on the lightest neutralino mass in the framework of this model and obtain an approximate solution for this mass.

The lightest neutralino in the MNSSM

We examine the allowed mass range of the lightest neutralino within the Minimal Non--minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Being absolutely stable if R-parity is conserved this lightest neutralino is a candidate for the dark matter of the universe. We establish the theoretical upper bound on the lightest neutralino mass and obtain an approximate solution for this mass.

Electroweak Symmetry Breaking in the E6SSM

The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E6SSM) is an E6 inspired model with an extra gauged U(1) symmetry, which solves the mu-problem in a similar way to the NMSSM but without the accompanying problems of singlet tadpoles or domain walls. It predicts new exotic particles at the TeV scale. We investigate the Renormalisation Group Evolution of the model and test electroweak symmetry breaking for a selection of interesting scenarios with non-universal Higgs masses at the GUT scale. We present a detailed particle spectrum that could be observed at the LHC.

Gauge Coupling Unification in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We consider the renormalisation group flow of gauge couplings within the so-called exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E$_6$SSM) based on the low energy matter content of 27 dimensional representations of the gauge group $E_6$, together with two additional non-Higgs doublets. The two--loop beta functions are computed, and the threshold corrections are studied in the E$_6$SSM. Our results show that gauge coupling unification in the E$_6$SSM can be achieved for phenomenologically acceptable values of $α_3(M_Z)$, consistent with the central measured low energy value, unlike in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) which, ignoring the effects of high energy threshold corrections, requires significantly higher values of $α_3(M_Z)$, well above the experimentally measured central value.

E$_6$SSM

In this talk we discuss an $E_6$ inspired supersymmetric (SUSY) model with an extra $U(1)_{N}$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed neutrinos have zero charge. In this exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E$_6$SSM) the $μ$-term is generated dynamically after the electroweak symmetry breaking. We specify the particle content of the model and argue that the presence of a $Z'$ and exotic particles predicted by E$_6$SSM allows the lightest Higgs boson to be significantly heavier than in the MSSM and NMSSM. Other possible manifestations of E$_6$SSM at the LHC are also discussed.

Spectrum of Higgs particles in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We discuss the spectrum of Higgs bosons in the framework of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model. The presence of a $Z'$ and exotic particles predicted by the exceptional SUSY model allows the lightest Higgs particle to be significantly heavier than in the MSSM and NMSSM. When the mass of the lightest Higgs boson is larger than $135-140 {GeV}$ the heaviest scalar, pseudoscalar and charged Higgs states lie beyond the ${TeV}$ range.

On the smallness of the cosmological constant in SUGRA models

In no--scale supergravity global symmetries protect local supersymmetry and a zero value for the cosmological constant. We consider the breakdown of these symmetries and present a minimal SUGRA model motivated by the multiple point principle, in which the total vacuum energy density is naturally tiny. In order to reproduce the observed value of the cosmological constant and preserve gauge coupling unification, an additional pair of $5+\bar{5}$--plets of superfields has to be included in the particle content of the considered model. These extra fields have masses of the order of the supersymmetry breaking scale; so they can be detected at future colliders. We also discuss the supersymmetry breakdown and possible solution of the cosmological constant problem by MPP in models with an enlarged gauge symmetry.

Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We discuss some phenomenological aspects of an $E_6$ inspired supersymmetric standard model with an extra $U(1)_{N}$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed neutrinos have zero charge, allowing a conventional see-saw mechanism. The $μ$ problem is solved in a similar way to the NMSSM, but without the accompanying problems of singlet tadpoles or domain walls. The above exceptional supersymmetric standard model (ESSM) involves the low energy matter content of three 27 representations of $E_6$, which is broken at the GUT scale, and allows gauge coupling unification due to an additional pair of Higgs-like doublets. The ESSM predicts a $Z'$ boson and exotic quarks which, if light enough, will provide spectacular new physics signals at the LHC. We study the LHC phenomenology of the $Z'$ and extra quarks, including their production and decay signatures particular to the ESSM. We also discuss the two-loop upper bound on the mass of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson, and show that it can be significantly heavier than in either the MSSM or the NMSSM.

Theory and Phenomenology of an Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We make a comprehensive study of the theory and phenomenology of a low energy supersymmetric standard model originating from a string-inspired $E_6$ grand unified gauge group. The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (ESSM) considered here is based on the low energy SM gauge group together with an extra $Z'$ corresponding to an extra $U(1)_{N}$ gauge symmetry under which right--handed neutrinos have zero charge. The low energy matter content of the ESSM corresponds to three 27 representations of the $E_6$ symmetry group, to ensure anomaly cancellation, plus an additional pair of Higgs--like doublets as required for high energy gauge coupling unification. The ESSM is therefore a low energy alternative to the MSSM or NMSSM. The ESSM involves extra matter beyond the MSSM contained in three $5+5^*$ representations of SU(5), plus three SU(5) singlets which carry $U(1)_{N}$ charges, one of which develops a VEV, providing the effective $μ$ term for the Higgs doublets, as well as the necessary exotic fermion masses. We explore the RG flow of the ESSM and examine theoretical restrictions on the values of new Yukawa couplings caused by the validity of perturbation theory up to the Grand Unification scale. We then discuss electroweak symmetry breaking and Higgs phenomenology, and establish an upper limit on the mass of the lightest Higgs particle which can be significantly heavier than in the MSSM and NMSSM, in leading two--loop approximation. We also discuss the phenomenology of the $Z'$ and the extra matter, whose discovery will provide a smoking gun signal of the model.

Higgs bosons in the NMSSM with exact and slightly broken PQ-symmetry

We explore the Higgs sector of the NMSSM in the limit when the Peccei--Quinn symmetry is exact or only slightly broken. In this case the Higgs spectrum has a hierarchical structure which is caused by the stability of the physical vacuum. We find a strong correlation between the parameters of the NMSSM if $κ=0$ or $κ\lesssim λ^2$. It allows one to distinguish the NMSSM with exact or softly broken PQ-symmetry from the MSSM even when extra scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs states escape direct detection.

Cosmological constant in SUGRA models and the multiple point principle

The tiny order of magnitude of the cosmological constant is sought to be explained in a model involving the following ingredients: supersymmetry breaking in N=1 supergravity and the multiple point principle. We demonstrate the viability of this scenario in the minimal SUGRA model.

The Peccei-Quinn Axion in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

We discuss the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with a Peccei-Quinn (PQ) U(1) symmetry. When this symmetry is dynamically broken by the Higgs mechanism, the resulting pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson takes the role of an axion. Although much of the allowed parameter space for low values of the PQ scale has been ruled out, many scenarios with a PQ scale > 10^9 GeV remain untested, allowing the NMSSM PQ axion to provide a solution to the strong CP problem and be a good dark matter candidate. Unfortunately the new particle states are so decoupled that they would not be observable at future colliders, and the NMSSM would appear indistinguishable from the minimal model. However, we show that in order to maintain vacuum stability, such a model requires that the heavy Higgs boson states have masses that lie close to approximately mu tan beta. Therefore, a measurement of the Heavy Higgs boson masses at the LHC would allow one to either rule out the NMSSM PQ axion, or provide tantalizing circumstantial evidence for its existence.
