Genuine Multiparty Quantum Entanglement Suppresses Multiport Classical Information Transmission

We establish a universal complementarity relation between the capacity of classical information transmission by employing a multiparty quantum state as a multiport quantum channel, and the genuine multipartite entanglement of the quantum state. The classical information transfer is from a sender to several receivers by using the quantum dense coding protocol with the multiparty quantum state shared between the sender and the receivers. The relation holds for arbitrary pure or mixed quantum states of an arbitrary number of parties in arbitrary dimensions.

Tuning interaction strength leads to ergodic-nonergodic transition of quantum correlations in anisotropic Heisenberg spin model

We investigate the time dynamics of quantum correlations of the anisotropic Heisenberg model in a time-dependent magnetic field, in one-dimensional, ladder, and two-dimensional lattices. We find that quantum correlation measures in the entanglement-separability paradigm are ergodic in these systems irrespective of system parameters. However, information-theoretic quantum correlation measures can also be nonergodic, and exhibit a transition from nonergodic to ergodic behavior with the change of interaction strength in the direction of the magnetic field. We also observe that the transition point changes drastically as we go from one-dimensional and ladder lattices to the two-dimensional one.

Limit on Time-Energy Uncertainty with Multipartite Entanglement

We establish a relation between the geometric time-energy uncertainty and multipartite entanglement. In particular, we show that the time-energy uncertainty relation is bounded below by the geometric measure of multipartite entanglement for an arbitrary quantum evolution of any multipartite system. The product of the time-averaged speed of the quantum evolution and the time interval of the evolution is bounded below by the multipartite entanglement of the target state. This relation holds for pure as well as for mixed states. We provide examples of physical systems for which the bound reaches close to saturation.

Maximally dense coding capable quantum states

A complementarity relation is established between the capacity of multiport classical information transmission via quantum states and multiparty quantum correlation measures for three-qubit pure states. The multiparty quantum correlation measures considered are the generalized geometric measure, the tangle, and the discord monogamy score. The complementarity relation is revealed by the identification of a one-parameter family of pure three-qubit states, which we call the maximally dense coding capable family of states. These states have the maximal multiport dense coding capacity among all three-qubit pure states with an arbitrary fixed amount of the multiparty quantum correlations.

Multisite Entanglement acts as a Better Indicator of Quantum Phase Transitions in Spin Models with Three-spin Interactions

We employ a genuine multipartite entanglement measure, the generalized geometric measure, for investigating the quantum phase transition in an infinite quantum spin-1/2 chain with two-spin as well as three-spin interactions. We show that in contrast to bipartite entanglement of the ground state, the genuine multiparty one unerringly indicates the quantum phase transition in the system. The system lends itself to a complementary behavior between bipartite and genuine multipartite entanglements. We also investigate the trend of the multipartite entanglement in finite chains, in which we perform a finite-size scaling to confirm the signature of the quantum phase transition already in finite systems. The finite-size investigation renders the phenomenon to be observable in real systems.

Dual quantum-correlation paradigms exhibit opposite statistical-mechanical properties

We report opposite statistical mechanical behaviors of the two major paradigms in which quantum correlation measures are defined, viz., the entanglement-separability paradigm and the information-theoretic one. We show this by considering the ergodic properties of such quantum correlation measures in transverse quantum XY spin-1/2 systems in low dimensions. While entanglement measures are ergodic in such models, the quantum correlation measures defined from an information-theoretic perspective can be nonergodic.

Characterization of Tripartite Quantum States with Vanishing Monogamy Score

Quantum discord, an information-theoretic quantum correlation measure, can satisfy as well as violate monogamy, for three-party quantum states. We quantify the feature using the concept of discord monogamy score. We find a necessary condition of a vanishing discord monogamy score for arbitrary three-party states. A necessary and sufficient condition is obtained for pure states. We prove that the class of states having a vanishing discord monogamy score cannot have arbitrarily high genuine multipartite entanglement, as quantified by generalized geometric measure. In the special case of three-qubit pure states, their classification with respect to the discord monogamy score, reveals a rich structure that is different from that which had been obtained by using the monogamy score corresponding to the entanglement measure called concurrence. We investigate properties like genuine multipartite entanglement and violation of the multipartite Bell inequality for these states.

Conditions for Monogamy of Quantum Discord: Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger versus W states

Quantum correlations are expected to respect all the conditions required for them to be good measures of quantumness in the bipartite scenario. In a multipartite setting, sharing entanglement between several parties is restricted by the monogamy of entanglement. We take over the concept of monogamy to an information-theoretic quantum correlation measure, and find that it violates monogamy in general. Using the notion of interaction information, we identify necessary and sufficient conditions for the measure to obey monogamy, for arbitrary pure and mixed quantum states. We show that while three-qubit generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states follow monogamy, generalized W states do not.

Light Cone-Like Behavior of Quantum Monogamy Score and Multisite Entanglement

There are two important paradigms for defining quantum correlations in quantum information theory, viz. the information-theoretic and the entanglement-separability ones. We find an analytical relation between two measures of quantum correlations, one in each paradigm, and show that only a certain cone-like region on the two-dimensional space spanned by these measures is accessible to pure three-qubit states. The information-theoretic multiparty quantum correlation measure is related to the monogamy considerations of a bipartite information-theoretic quantum correlation measure, while the entanglement-separability multiparty measure is the generalized geometric measure, a genuine multiparty entanglement measure. We also find an analytical relation between two multiparty entanglement measures, and again obtain a cone-like accessible region in this case. One of the multisite measures in this case is related to the monogamy of a bipartite entanglement measure, while the other is again the generalized geometric measure. Just like in relativity, events cannot occur outside the space-time light cone, we analogously find here that state points corresponding to pure three-qubit states cannot fall outside the two-dimensional cone-like structure between quantum monogamy scores and a genuine multisite entanglement measure.

Exclusion Principle for Quantum Dense Coding

We show that the classical capacity of quantum states, as quantified by its ability to perform dense coding, respects an exclusion principle, for arbitrary pure or mixed three-party states in any dimension. This states that no two bipartite states which are reduced states of a common tripartite quantum state can have simultaneous quantum advantage in dense coding. The exclusion principle is robust against noise. Such principle also holds for arbitrary number of parties. This exclusion principle is independent of the content and distribution of entanglement in the multipartite state. We also find a strict monogamy relation for multi-port classical capacities of multi-party quantum states in arbitrary dimensions. In the scenario of two senders and a single receiver, we show that if two of them wish to send classical information to a single receiver independently, then the corresponding dense coding capacities satisfy the monogamy relation, similar to the one for quantum correlations.

Disorder overtakes Order in Information Concentration over Quantum Networks

We consider different classes of quenched disordered quantum XY spin chains, including quantum XY spin glass and quantum XY model with a random transverse field, and investigate the behavior of genuine multiparty entanglement in the ground states of these models. We find that there are distinct ranges of the disorder parameter that gives rise to a higher genuine multiparty entanglement than in the corresponding systems without disorder -- an order-from-disorder in genuine multiparty entanglement. Moreover, we show that such a disorder-induced advantage in the genuine multiparty entanglement is useful -- it is almost certainly accompanied by a order-from-disorder for a multiport quantum dense coding capacity with the same ground state used as a multiport quantum network.

Ergodicity from Nonergodicity in Quantum Correlations of Low-dimensional Spin Systems

Correlations between the parts of a many-body system, and its time dynamics, lie at the heart of sciences, and they can be classical as well as quantum. Quantum correlations are traditionally viewed as constituted out of classical correlations and magnetizations. While that of course remains so, we show that quantum correlations can have statistical mechanical properties like ergodicity, which is not inherited from the corresponding classical correlations and magnetizations, for the transverse anisotropic quantum XY model in one-, two-, and quasi two-dimension, for suitably chosen transverse fields and temperatures. The results have the potential for applications in decoherence effects in realizable quantum computers.

A scheme for amplification and discrimination of photons

A scheme for exploring photon number amplification and discrimination is presented based on the interaction of a large number of two-level atoms with a single mode radiation field. The fact that the total number of photons and atoms in the excited states is a constant under time evolution in Dicke model is exploited to rearrange the atom-photon numbers. Three significant predictions emerge from our study: Threshold time for initial exposure to photons, time of perception (time of maximum detection probability), and discrimination of first few photon states.

Separability of a family of one parameter W and GHZ multiqubit states using Abe-Rajagopal q-conditional entropy approach

We employ conditional Tsallis q entropies to study the separability of symmetric one parameter W and GHZ multiqubit mixed states. The strongest limitation on separability is realized in the limit q-->infinity, and is found to be much superior to the condition obtained using the von Neumann conditional entropy (q=1 case). Except for the example of two qubit and three qubit symmetric states of GHZ family, the $q$-conditional entropy method leads to sufficient - but not necessary - conditions on separability.

Collective multipole-like signatures of entanglement in symmetric N-qubit systems

A cogent theory of collective multipole-like quantum correlations in symmetric multiqubit states is presented by employing SO(3) irreducible spherical tensor representation. An arbitrary bipartite division of this system leads to a family of inequalities to detect entanglement involving averages of these tensors expressed in terms of the total system angular momentum operator. Implications of this theory to the quantum nature of multipole-like correlations of all orders in the Dicke states are deduced. A selected set of examples illustrate these collective tests. Such tests detect entanglement in macroscopic atomic ensembles, where individual atoms are not accessible.

Characterizing multiparticle entanglement in symmetric N-qubit states via negativity of covariance matrices

We show that higher order inter-group covariances involving even number of qubits are necessarily positive semidefinite for N qubit separable states, which are completely symmetric under permutations of the qubits. This identification leads to a family of sufficient conditions of inseparability based on the negativity of 2kth order inter-group covariance matrices of symmetric N-qubit systems. These conditions have a simple structure and detect entanglement in all even partitions of the symmetric multiqubit system. The observables involved are feasible experimental quantities and do not demand full state determination through quantum state tomography.

Constraints on the uncertainties of entangled symmetric qubits

We derive necessary and sufficient inseparability conditions imposed on the variance matrix of symmetric qubits. These constraints are identified by examining a structural parallelism between continuous variable states and two qubit states. Pairwise entangled symmetric multiqubit states are shown here to obey these constraints. We also bring out an elegant local invariant structure exhibited by our constraints.

Local Invariants and Pairwise Entanglement in Symmetric Multi-qubit System

Pairwise entanglement properties of a symmetric multi-qubit system are analyzed through a complete set of two-qubit local invariants. Collective features of entanglement, such as spin squeezing, are expressed in terms of invariants and a classifcation scheme for pairwise entanglement is proposed. The invariant criteria given here are shown to be related to the recently proposed (Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 120502 (2005)) generalized spin squeezing inequalities for pairwise entanglement in symmetric multi-qubit states.
