Can $γγ\rightarrow Z_L Z_L$ serve as a probe of the electroweak symmetry breaking sector ?

We investigate the feasibility of distinguishing among different models of electroweak symmetry breaking by studying the process $γγ\rightarrow Z_L Z_L$ at photon colliders. For models with a low mass Higgs-like scalar resonance, the $s$-channel contribution provides a distinct resonance structure and large cross sections. However, the absence of a resonance structure in the cross section for the above process does not discriminate in principle between the existence of either a heavy Higgs boson or a vector resonance of a non-linearly realized symmetry.

The Strongly Interacting $WW$ System: Gold--Plated Modes

In this paper we survey the signals and backgrounds for a strongly-interacting electroweak symmetry breaking sector at hadron supercolliders in the TeV region. We study the process pp->WWX, and compute the rates for the ``gold-plated'' channels, where W^{+/-}->l^{+/-}νand Z -> l^+l^- (l = e,μ), for a wide variety of models. Using a forward jet-tag, a central jet-veto and a back-to-back lepton cut to suppress the Standard Model backgrounds, we demonstrate that the SSC and LHC have substantial sensitivity to strong interactions in the electroweak symmetry breaking sector.

Multiple $W_L$ Production from Inelastic $W_L W_L$ Scattering at $\sqrt{\hat{s}} \gg M_H$

We explore the inelastic production of multiple longitudinal weak bosons as a manifestation of a strongly interacting symmetry breaking sector. By analogy with QCD, final states with large multiplicities are expected to occur not far above the energy scale of the lowest resonances of the underlying strong theory. We consider the feasibility of observing such phenomena in the environment of a very high energy hadron collider.

The Perturbative Onset of Multiparticle Production in Weak Interactions

We use perturbation theory to estimate the energy scale beyond which multiparticle final states become a dominant feature of high energy weak interactions. Using estimates from a weak parton model and comparing two, three and four body final states we deduce that multiparticle states become important at energy scales in the range 10**7 - 10**9 GeV.
