Computing the band structure and energy gap of penta-graphene by using DFT and G0W0 approximations

In this paper, we consider the optimum coordinate of the penta-graphene. Penta-graphene is a new stable carbon allotrope which is stronger than graphene. Here, we compare the band gap of penta-graphene with various density functional theory (DFT) methods. We plot the band structure of penta-graphene which calculated with the generalized gradient approximation functional, about Fermi energy.

Thin film growth by using random shape cluster deposition

The growth of a rough and porous thin surface by deposition of randomly shaped clusters with different sizes over an initially flat linear substrate is simulated, using Monte Carlo technique. Unlike the ordinary Random Deposition, our approach results in aggregation of clusters which produces a porous bulk with correlation along the surface and the surface saturation occurs in long enough deposition times. The scaling exponents; the growth, roughness, and dynamic exponents are calculated based on the time scale. Moreover, the porosity and its dependency to the time and clusters size are also calculated. We also study the influence of clusters size on the scaling exponent, as well as on the global porosity.

Two-Scale Kirchhoff Theory: Comparison of Experimental Observations With Theoretical Prediction

We introduce a non-perturbative two scale Kirchhoff theory, in the context of light scattering by a rough surface. This is a two scale theory which considers the roughness both in the wavelength scale (small scale) and in the scales much larger than the wavelength of the incident light (large scale). The theory can precisely explain the small peaks which appear at certain scattering angles. These peaks can not be explained by one scale theories. The theory was assessed by calculating the light scattering profiles using the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) images, as well as surface profilometer scans of a rough surface, and comparing the results with experiments. The theory is in good agreement with the experimental results.
