QCD corrections to the electroproduction of hadrons with high pT

We compute the order alpha_s^2 corrections to the one particle inclusive electroproduction cross section of hadrons with non vanishing transverse momentum. We compare our results with H1 data on forward production of pi^0, and conclude that the data is well described by the DGLAP approach. within the theoretical uncertainties.

Sea quark and gluon polarization in the nucleon at NLO accuracy

We investigate the sea quark polarization in the nucleon by means of a combined next to leading order analysis to the recently enlarged set of inclusive and semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering data. Using the Lagrange multiplier method, we asses the uncertainty inherent to the extraction of the different spin dependent parton densities in a QCD global fit, and the impact of the increased set of semi-inclusive data now available. We comment on future prospects at RHIC and JLAB and their potential impact in the future determination of polarized parton densities.

O(alpha_s^2) QCD corrections to the electroproduction of hadrons with high transverse momentum

We compute the order alpha_s^2 corrections to the one particle inclusive electroproduction cross section of hadrons with non vanishing transverse momentum. We perform the full calculation analytically, and obtain the expression of the factorized (finite) cross section at this order. We compare our results with H1 data on forward production of pi^0, and discuss the phenomenological implications of the rather large higher order contributions obtained in that case. Specifically, we analyze the cross section sensitivity to the factorization and renormalization scales, and to the input fragmentation functions, over the kinematical region covered by data. We conclude that the data is well described by the O(alpha_s^2) predictions within the theoretical uncertainties and without the inclusion of any physics content beyond the DGLAP approach.

Nuclear parton distributions at next to leading order

We perform a next to leading order QCD global analysis of nuclear deep inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan data using the convolution approach to parameterize nuclear parton densities. We find both a significant improvement in the agreement with data compared to previous extractions, and substantial differences in the scale dependence of nuclear effects compared to leading order analyses.

Next to leading order evolution of SIDIS processes in the forward region

We compute the order $α_s^2$ quark initiated corrections to semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering extending the approach developed recently for the gluon contributions. With these corrections we complete the order $α_s^2$ QCD description of these processes, verifying explicitly the factorization of collinear singularities. We also obtain the corresponding NLO evolution kernels, relevant for the scale dependence of fracture functions. We compare the non-homogeneous evolution effects driven by these kernels with those obtained at leading order accuracy and discuss their phenomenological implications.

NLO Scale Dependence of Semi-Inclusive Processes

We discuss the order α_s^2 gluon initiated QCD corrections to one particle inclusive deep inelastic processes. We focus in the NLO evolution kernels relevant for the non homogeneous QCD scale dependence of these cross sections and factorization.

Order-alpha_s^2 corrections to one-particle inclusive processes in DIS

We analyze the order-$α_s^2$ QCD corrections to semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering and present results for processes initiated by a gluon. We focus in the most singular pieces of these corrections in order to obtain the hitherto unknown NLO evolution kernels relevant for the non homogeneous QCD scale dependence of these cross sections, and to check explicitly factorization at this order. In so doing we discuss the prescription of overlapping singularities in more than one variable.

Consistency in NLO analyses of inclusive and semi-inclusive polarized DIS data

We perform a detailed study of the consistency between different sets of polarized deep inelastic scattering data and theory, from the standpoint of a next to leading order QCD global analysis, and following the criteria proposed by Collins and Pumplin. In face of recent suggestions that challenge the usual assumption about parent parton spin independence of unpolarized fragmentation functions, we specially focus on polarized semi-inclusive data.

Inclusive and Semi-Inclusive Polarized DIS Data Revisited

We perform a combined next to leading order analysis to both inclusive and semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering data, assessing the impact of new data in the extraction of the sea quark and gluon spin dependent densities. In particular, we find that semi-inclusive data show a clear preference for a positive 'Delta ubar' distribution, although are almost insensitive to different alternatives to 'Delta dbar'.

Deep inelastic scattering, diffraction, and all that

These lectures include an introduction to the partonic description of the proton, the photon and the `colour singlet', as seen in inclusive and semi-inclusive DIS, in $e^+e^-$ collisions, and in diffractive processes, respectively. Their formal treatment using structure, fragmentation, and fracture functions is outlined giving an insight into the perturbative QCD framework for these functions. Examples and comparisons with experimental data from LEP, HERA, and Tevatron are also covered.

Fracture Functions for Diffractive and Leading Proton DIS

We present a combined QCD analysis of diffractive and leading proton deep inelastic scattering data using the framework of fracture functions. It is shown that this framework allows a precise and unified perturbative QCD description for the data, alternative to those that relay on Regge factorization.

QCD Analysis of Diffractive and Leading-Proton DIS Structure Functions in the Framework of Fracture Functions

We present a combined QCD analysis of recent data produced by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations on the diffractive and leading-proton deep inelastic positron--proton scattering structure functions, $F_2^{D(3)}$ and $F_2^{LP(3)}$, respectively. It is shown that the QCD framework for semi-inclusive processes, based on fracture functions, allows a unified treatment of both diffractive and leading-proton processes, and offers a precise perturbative QCD description for them, alternative to those that rely on model-dependent assumptions, such as Regge factorization, or other non-perturbative approaches

Next-to-Leading Order Analysis of Inclusive and Semi-inclusive Polarized Data

We present a combined next-to-leading order QCD analysis to data on both inclusive and semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering asymmetries. Performing NLO QCD global fits with different sets of observables, we evaluate the impact of the very recent semi-inclusive results presented by SMC in the extraction of NLO polarized parton distributions.

Target Fragmentation and Fracture Functions

We analyse recent data on the production of forward neutrons in deep inelastic scattering at HERA in the framework of a perturbative QCD description for semi-inclusive processes, which includes fracture functions.

Next to Leading Order QCD Corrections to Polarized $Λ$ Production in DIS

We calculate next to leading order QCD corrections to semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering and $e^+e^-$ annihilation cross sections for processes where the polarization of the identified final-state hadron can also be determined. Using dimensional regularization and the HVBM prescription for the $γ_5$ matrix, we compute corrections for different spin-dependent observables, both in the $\overline{MS}$ and $\overline{MS_p}$ factorization schemes, and analyse their structure. In addition to the well known corrections to polarized parton distributions, we also present those for final-state polarized fracture functions and polarized fragmentation functions, in a consistent factorization scheme.

Photoproduction of jets and the virtual structure of the photon

We compute the ratio between the direct and the resolved photon components of single jet and dijet production in $ep$ collisions for the kinematical range covered by the most recent ZEUS data. We analyse the phenomenological consequences of different models for the structure of virtual photons in these observables and compare them with the available data. We also comment on the correlation between the so called $x_γ^{obs}$ and the `true' $x_γ$, that can be inferred from the data.
