In this paper we discuss the coupled dynamics, following from a suitable Lagrangian, of a harmonic or wave map $ϕ$ and Einstein's gravitation described by a metric $g$. The main results concern energy conditions for wave maps, harmonic maps from warped product manifolds, and wave maps from wave-like Lorentzian manifolds.
We present the history of fourth order metric theories of gravitation from its beginning in 1918 until 1988.
The heat kernel coefficients $H_k$ to the Schrödinger operator with a matrix potential are investigated. We present algorithms and explicit expressions for the Taylor coefficients of the $H_k$. Special terms are discussed, and for the one-dimensional case some improved algorithms are derived.
