Bayesian Comparison of the Cosmic Duality Scenarios

The cosmic distance duality relation (CDDR), $D_{\rm L}(1+z)^{-2}/D_{\rm A}=η=1$, with $D_{\rm L}$ and $D_{\rm A}$, being the luminosity and angular diameter distances, respectively, is a crucial premise in cosmological scenarios. Many investigations try to test CDDR through observational approaches, even some of these ones also consider a deformed CDDR, i.e., $η=η(z)$. In this paper, we use type Ia supernovae luminosity distances and galaxy cluster measurements (their angular diameter distances and gas mass fractions) in order to perform a Bayesian model comparison between $ η(z) $ functions. We show that the data here used are unable to pinpoint, with a high degree of Bayesian evidence, which $η(z)$ function best captures the evolution of CDDR.

Brazilian Community Report on Dark Matter

This white paper summarizes the activities of the Brazilian community concerning dark matter physics and highlights the importance of financial support to Brazilian groups that are deeply involved in experimental endeavours. The flagships of the Brazilian dark matter program are the Cherenkov Telescope Array, DARKSIDE, SBN and LHC experiments, but we emphasize that smaller experiments such as DAMIC and CONNIE constitute important probes to dark sectors as well and should receive special attention. Small experimental projects showing the potential to probe new regions of parameter space of dark matter models are encouraged. On the theoretical and phenomenological side, some groups are devoted to astrophysical aspects such as the dark matter density profile while others explore the signature of dark matter models at colliders, direct and indirect detection experiments. In summary, the Brazilian dark matter community that was born not long ago has grown tremendously in the past years and now plays an important role in the hunt for a dark matter particle.

Investigating the signatures of long-range persistence in seismic sequences along Circum-Pacific subduction zones

In the present paper, we analyze the signatures of long-range persistence in seismic sequences along Circum-Pacific subduction zones, from Chile to Kermadec, extracted from the National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC) catalog. This region, known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, is the world's most active fault line, containing about 90$\%$ of the world's earthquakes. We used the classical rescaled range ($R/S$) analysis to estimate the long-term persistence signals derived from a scaling parameter called the Hurst exponent, $H$. We measured the referred exponent and obtained values of $H>0.5$, indicating that a long-term memory effect exists. We found a possible fractal relationship between $H$ and the $b_{s}(q)$-index, which emerges from the non-extensive Gutenberg-Richter law as a function of the asperity. Therefore, $H$ can be associated with a mechanism that controls the level of seismic activity. Finally, we concluded that the dynamics associated with fragment-asperity interactions can be classified as a self-affine fractal phenomenon.

Galaxy cluster Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect scaling-relation and type Ia supernova observations as a test for the cosmic distance duality relation

In this paper, we propose a new test to the cosmic distance duality relation (CDDR), $D_L=D_A(1+z)^2$, where $D_L$ and $D_A$ are the luminosity and angular diameter distances, respectively. The data used correspond to 61 Type Ia Supernova luminosity distances and $Y_{SZE}-Y_X$ measurements of 61 galaxy clusters obtained by the {\it Planck} mission and the deep XMM-Newton X-ray data, where $Y_{SZE}$ is the integrated comptonization parameter obtained via Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect observations and $Y_X$ is the X-ray counterpart. More precisely, we use the $Y_{SZE}D_{A}^{2}/C_{XSZE}Y_X$ scaling-relation and a deformed CDDR, such as $D_L/D_A(1+z)^2=η(z)$, to verify if $η(z)$ is compatible with the unity. Two $η(z)$ functions are used, namely, $η(z)=1+η_0 z$ and $η(z)=1+η_0 z /(1+z)$. { We obtain that the CDDR validity ($η_0=0$) is verified within $\approx 1.5σ$ c.l. for both $η(z)$ functions.}.

Extended $Λ$CDM model and viscous dark energy: A Bayesian analysis

We propose an approach considering the nonextensive effects in the context of the Verlinde theory in order to address an extended cosmological model in the context of viscous dark energy. Specifically, this model leads to a tiny perturbation in the dynamics of the expansion of the universe through the generalized Friedmann equations so-called the extended $Λ$CDM model. From the observational test standpoint, we make a Bayesian analysis of the models of bulk viscosity for dark energy which follows the Eckart theory of bulk viscosity. These models are investigated through the context of both models $Λ$CDM and extended $Λ$CDM. The Bayesian analysis is performed using the data of CMB Distance priors, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations Measurements, Cosmic Chronometers, and SNe Ia distance measurements.

Galaxy clusters and a possible variation of the fine structure constant

Galaxy clusters have been used as a cosmic laboratory to verify a possible time variation of fundamental constants. Particularly, it has been shown that the ratio $Y_{SZ}D_{A}^{2}/C_{XZS}Y_X $, which is expected to be constant with redshift, can be used to probe a variation of the fine structure constant, $α$. In this ratio, $Y_{SZ}D_{A}^{2}$ is the integrated comptonization parameter of a galaxy cluster obtained via Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) effect observations multiplied by its angular diameter distance, $D_A$, $Y_X$ is the X-ray counterpart and $C_{XSZ}$ is an arbitrary constant. Using a combination of SZ and X-ray data, a recent analysis found $Y_{SZ}D_{A}^{2}/C_{XZS}Y_X = {\rm{C}} α(z)^{3.5}$, where ${\rm{C}}$ is a constant. In this paper, following previous results that suggest that a variation of $α$ necessarily leads to a violation of the cosmic distance duality relation, $D_L/D_A(1+z)^2 = 1$, where $D_L$ is the luminosity distance of a given source, we derive a new expression, $Y_{SZ}D_{A}^{2}/C_{XSZ}Y_X = {\rm{C}} α^{3.5} η^{-1}(z)$, where $η(z) = D_L/D_A(1+z)^2$. In particular, considering the direct relation $η(z) \propto α(z)^{1/2}$, derived from a class of dilaton runaway models, %class of modified gravity theories, and 61 measurements of the ratio $Y_{SZ}D_{A}^{2}/C_{XSZ}Y_X$ provided by the Planck collaboration, we discuss bounds on a possible variation of $α$. We also estimate the value of the constant $ {\rm{C}}$, which is compatible with the unity at $2σ$ level, indicating that the assumption of isothermality for the temperature profile of the galaxy clusters used in the analysis holds.

Extended $Λ$CDM model

In this work we discuss a general approach for the dissipative dark matter considering a nonextensive bulk viscosity and taking into account the role of generalized Friedmann equations. This generalized $Λ$CDM model encompasses a flat universe with a dissipative nonextensive viscous dark matter component, following the Eckart theory of bulk viscosity. In order to compare models and constrain cosmological parameters, we perform Bayesian analysis using one of the most recent observations of Type Ia Supernova, baryon acoustic oscillations, and cosmic microwave background data.

Physical constraints on interacting dark energy models

Physical limits on the equation-of-state (EoS) parameter of a dark energy component non-minimally coupled with the dark matter field are examined in light of the second law of thermodynamics and the positiveness of entropy. Such constraints are combined with observational data sets of type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations and the angular acoustic scale of the cosmic microwave background to impose restrictions on the behaviour of the dark matter/dark energy interaction. Considering two EoS parameterisations of the type $w = w_0 + w_aζ(z)$, we derive a general expression for the evolution of the dark energy density and show that the combination of thermodynamic limits and observational data provide tight bounds on the $w_0 - w_a$ parameter space.

CMB constraints on $β$-exponential inflationary models

We analyze a class of generalized inflationary models proposed in Ref. [1], known as $β$-exponential inflation. We show that this kind of potential can arise in the context of brane cosmology, where the field describing the size of the extra-dimension is interpreted as the inflaton. We discuss the observational viability of this class of model in light of the latest Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data from the Planck Collaboration through a Bayesian analysis, and impose tight constraints on the model parameters. We find that the CMB data alone prefer \textit{weakly} the minimal standard model ($Λ$CDM) over the $β$-exponential inflation. However, when current local measurements of the Hubble parameter, $H_0$, are considered, the $β$-inflation model is {\it moderately} preferred over the $Λ$CDM cosmology, making the study of this class of inflationary models interesting in the context of the current $H_0$ tension.

On the chemical abundances of Miras in clusters: V1 in the metal-rich globular NGC 5927

We present the first spectroscopic abundance determination of iron, alpha-elements (Si, Ca and Ti) and sodium for the Mira variable V1 in the metal-rich globular cluster NGC 5927. We use high-resolution (R~ 28,000), high signal-to-noise ratio (~200) spectra collected with WINERED, a near-infrared (NIR) spectrograph covering simultaneously the wavelength range 0.91--1.35 micron. The effective temperature and the surface gravity at the pulsation phase of the spectroscopic observation were estimated using both optical (V) and NIR time-series photometric data. We found that the Mira is metal-rich ([Fe/H]=-0.55 \pm 0.15) and moderately alpha-enhanced ([alpha/Fe]=0.15 \pm 0.01, sigma=0.2). These values agree quite well with the mean cluster abundances based on high-resolution optical spectra of several cluster red giants available in the literature ([Fe/H]=-0.47 \pm 0.06, [alpha/Fe]=+0.24 \pm 0.05). We also found a Na abundance of +0.35 \pm 0.20 that is higher than the mean cluster abundance based on optical spectra (+0.18 \pm 0.13). However, the lack of similar spectra for cluster red giants and that of corrections for departures from local-thermodynamical equilibrium prevents us from establishing whether the difference is intrinsic or connected with multiple populations. These findings indicate a strong similarity between optical and NIR metallicity scales in spite of the difference in the experimental equipment, data analysis and in the adopted spectroscopic diagnostics.

Nonextensive Kinetic Theory and H-Theorem in General Relativity

The nonextensive kinetic theory for degenerate quantum gases is discussed in the general relativistic framework. By incorporating nonadditive modifications in the collisional term of the relativistic Boltzmann equation and entropy current, it is shown that Tsallis entropic framework satisfies a H-theorem in the presence of gravitational fields. Consistency with the 2nd law of thermodynamics is obtained only whether the entropic q-parameter lies in the interval $q \in [0,2]$. As occurs in the absence of gravitational fields, it is also proved that the local collisional equilibrium is described by the extended Bose-Einstein (Fermi-Dirac) q-distributions.

On a possible fractal relationship between the Hurst exponent and the nonextensive Gutenberg-Richter index

In the present paper, we analyze the fractal structures in magnitude time series for a set of unprecedented sample extracted from the National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC) catalog corresponding to 12 Circum-Pacific subduction zones from Chile to Kermadec. For this end, we used the classical Rescaled Range ($R/S$) analysis for estimating the long-term persistence signature derived from scaling parameter so-called Hurst exponent, $H$. As a result, we measured the referred exponent and obtained all values of $H>0.5$, indicating that a long-term memory effect exists. The main contribution of our paper, we found a possible fractal relationship between $H$ and the $b_{s}(q)$-index which emerges from nonextensive Gutenberg-Richter law as a function of the asperity, i.e., we show that the values of $H$ can be associated with the mechanism which controls the abundance of magnitude and, therefore, the level of activity of earthquakes. Finally, we concluded that dynamics associated with fragment-asperity interactions can be emphasized as a self-affine fractal phenomenon.

Consistent nonadditive approach and nuclear equation of state

By using a $q$-calculus, the Walecka many-body field theory was studied in the context of the Tsallis framework. The most important aspect of the application of the $q$-calculus to the nonadditive formulation of QHD-I is that it naturally emerges as a thermodynamically consistent theory.

General treatment for dark energy thermodynamics

In this work we discuss a general approach for the dark energy thermodynamics considering a varying equation of state (EoS) parameter of the type $ω(a)=ω_0+F(a)$ and taking into account the role of a non-zero chemical potential $μ$. We derive generalized expressions for the entropy density, chemical potential and dark energy temperature $T$ and use the positiveness of the entropy to impose thermodynamic bounds on the EoS parameter $ω(a)$. In particular, we find that a phantom-like behavior $ω(a)< -1$ is allowed only when the chemical potential assumes negative values ($μ<0$).

Non-Gaussian statistics, maxwellian derivation and stellar polytropes

In this letter we discuss the Non-gaussian statistics considering two aspects. In the first, we show that the Maxwell's first derivation of the stationary distribution function for a dilute gas can be extended in the context of Kaniadakis statistics. The second one, by investigating the stellar system, we study the Kaniadakis analytical relation between the entropic parameter $κ$ and stellar polytrope index $n$. We compare also the Kaniadakis relation $n=n(κ)$ with $n=n(q)$ proposed in the Tsallis framework.

Nonextensive triplet in geological faults system

The San Andreas fault (SAF) in the USA is one of the most investigated self-organizing systems in nature. In this paper, we studied some geophysical properties of the SAF system in order to analyze the behavior of earthquakes in the context of Tsallis's $q$--Triplet. To that end, we considered 134,573 earthquake events in magnitude interval $2\leq m<8$, taken from the Southern Earthquake Data Center (SCEDC, 1932 - 2012). The values obtained ("$q$--Triplet"$\equiv$$\{$$q$$_{stat}$,$q$$_{sen}$,$q$$_{rel}$$\}$) reveal that the $q_{stat}$--Gaussian behavior of the aforementioned data exhibit long-range temporal correlations. Moreover, $q_{sen}$ exhibits quasi-monofractal behavior with a Hurst exponent of 0.87.

Thermodynamics and dark energy

A significant observational effort has been directed to unveil the nature of the so-called dark energy. However, given the large number of theoretical possibilities, it is possible that such a task cannot be performed on the basis only of the observational data. In this article we discuss some thermodynamic properties of this energy component by assuming that its constituents are massless quanta with a general time-dependent equation-of-state parameter $ω(z)=ω_0 + ω_a f(z)$, where $ω_0$ and $ω_a$ are constants and $f(z)$ may assume different forms. We show that very restrictive bounds can be placed on the $w_0$ - $w_a$ space when current observational data are combined with the thermodynamic constraints derived.

Nonextensive Quantum H-Theorem

A proof of the quantum $H$-theorem taking into account nonextensive effects on the quantum entropy $S^Q_q$ is shown. The positiveness of the time variation of $S^Q_q$ combined with a duality transformation implies that the nonextensive parameter $q$ lies in the interval [0,2]. It is also shown that the equilibrium states are described by quantum $q$-power law extensions of the Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein distributions. Such results reduce to the standard ones in the extensive limit, thereby showing that the nonextensive entropic framework can be harmonized with the quantum distributions contained in the quantum statistics theory.
