Spin Seebeck effect in a polar antiferromagnet $α$-Cu$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{7}$

We have studied the longitudinal spin Seebeck effect in a polar antiferromagnet $α$-Cu$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{7}$ in contact with a Pt film. Below the antiferromagnetic transition temperature of $α$-Cu$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{7}$, spin Seebeck voltages whose magnetic field dependence is similar to that reported in antiferromagnetic MnF$_{2}$$\mid$Pt bilayers are observed. Though a small weak-ferromagnetic moment appears owing to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in $α$-Cu$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{7}$, the magnetic field dependence of spin Seebeck voltages is found to be irrelevant to the weak ferromagnetic moments. The dependences of the spin Seebeck voltages on magnetic fields and temperature are analyzed by a magnon spin current theory. The numerical calculation of spin Seebeck voltages using magnetic parameters of $α$-Cu$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{7}$ determined by previous neutron scattering studies reveals that the magnetic-field and temperature dependences of the spin Seebeck voltages for $α$-Cu$_{2}$V$_{2}$O$_{7}$$\mid$Pt are governed by the changes in magnon lifetimes with magnetic fields and temperature.

Signature of magnon Nernst effect in an antiferromagnetic insulator

A magnon Nernst effect, an antiferromagnetic analogue of the magnon Hall effect in ferromagnetic insulators, has been studied experimentally for a layered antiferromagnetic insulator MnPS3 in contact with two Pt strips. Thermoelectric voltage in the Pt strips grown on MnPS3 single crystals exhibits non-monotonic temperature dependence at low temperatures, which cannot be explained by electronic origins in Pt but can be ascribed to the inverse spin Hall voltage induced by a magnon Nernst effect. Control of antiferromagnetic domains in the MnPS3 crystal by magnetoelectric cooling is found to modulate the low-temperature thermoelectric voltage in Pt, which corroborates the emergence of the magnon Nernst effect in Pt|MnPS3 hybrid structures.

Measurement of the Xi-p Scattering Cross Sections at Low Energy

In this paper we report cross-section measurements for $Ξ^-p$ elastic and inelastic scatterings at low energy using a scintillating fiber active target. Upper limit on the total cross-section for the elastic scattering was found to be 24 mb at 90% confidence level, and the total cross section for the $Ξ^-p\toΛΛ$ reaction was found to be $4.3^{+6.3}_{-2.7}$ mb. We compare the results with currently competing theoretical estimates.
