Possible scenarios for soft and semi-hard components structure in central hadron-hadron collisions in the TeV region: pseudo-rapidity intervals

Continuing previous work on collective variables properties in full phase space in hadron-hadron collisions in the TeV region our investigation is extended to multiplicity distributions and clan structure analysis in pseudo-rapidity intervals. Total multiplicity distributions (MDs) are considered also here as the weighted superposition of soft and semi-hard components, and described by Pascal(NB)MD. The soft component is characterised by KNO and Feynman scaling behaviour in all scenarios which differ in the semi-hard component properties only. In fact, the semi-hard component has been supposed to satisfy, in scenario 1, KNO and Feynman scaling behaviour and to violate it strongly in scenario 2. A third possibility has been explored: it is a QCD inspired scenario and leads to expectations intermediate between the just mentioned two. The semi-hard component structure becomes dominant in the TeV energy domain, a huge mini-jet production is indeed the main phenomenon in this region. In addition a new species of clans is generated suggesting a phase transition in the clan production in scenarios 2 and 3. Our results can be compared with Tevatron and LHC experimental data when available.

Percolation approach to phase transitions in high energy nuclear collisions

We study continuum percolation in nuclear collisions for the realistic case in which the nuclear matter distribution is not uniform over the collision volume, and show that the percolation threshold is increased compared to the standard, uniform situation. In terms of quark-gluon plasma formation this means that the phase transition threshold is pushed to higher energies.

Soft and Semi-Hard Components Structure in Multiparticle Production in High Energy Collisions

Superposition of jets of different flavors as well as superposition of jets of different topologies describe well observed structures (shoulder, H_q oscillations) in e+e- annihilation. The analysis of similar effects seen in experimental data in hadron-hadron collision is performed successfully by superimposing soft and semi-hard contributions at various energies. Negative Binomial multiplicity distributions are chosen in all examined classes of collisions as elementary substructures, i.e., as QCD inspired genuine self-similar fractal processes. Predictions on final particle multiplicity distributions in hadron-hadron collisions at 14 TeV are discussed.

Oscillations of Moments and Structure of Multiplicity Distributions in e+e- Annihilation

Starting from the recognized fact that oscillations of moments with rank and shoulder structure in the multiplicity distribution have the same origin in the full sample of events in e+e- annihilation, we push our investigation to the 2-jet sample level, and argue in favor of the use of the negative binomial multiplicity distribution as the building block of multiparticle production in e+e- annihilation events. It will be shown that this approach leads to definite predictions for the correlation structure, e.g., that correlations are flavour independent.

Clan Structure in Rapidity Intervals

We present a cascading model for a single jet, inspired to QCD and to the phenomenological analysis of multiplicity distributions. The model, describing as it does a two dimensional evolution in virtuality and rapidity, allows analytical predictions for clan analysis parameters to be made.

The average number of partons per clan in rapidity intervals in parton showers

The dependence of the average number of partons per clan on virtuality and rapidity variables is analytically predicted in the framework of the Generalized Simplified Parton Shower model, based on the idea that clans are genuine elementary subprocesses. The results obtained are found to be qualitatively consistent with experimental trends. This study extends previous results on the behavior of the average number of clans in virtuality and rapidity and shows how important physical quantities can be calculated analytically in a model based on essentials of QCD allowing local violations of the energy-momentum conservation law, still requiring its global validity.

Properties of Factorial Cumulant to Factorial Moment Ratio

It is shown that the ratio of factorial cumulant moments to factorial moments for a multiplicity distribution truncated in the tail reveals oscillations in sign similar to those observed in experimental data. It is suggested that this effect be taken into account in the analysis of data in order to obtain correct physical information on the multiplicity distributions.

Clan Structure Analysis and Rapidity Gap Probability

Clan structure analysis in rapidity intervals is generalized from negative binomial multiplicity distribution to the wide class of compound Poisson distributions. The link of generalized clan structure analysis with correlation functions is also established. These theoretical results are then applied to minimum bias events and evidentiate new interesting features, which can be inspiring and useful in order to discuss data on rapidity gap probability at TEVATRON and HERA.

Clan Properties in Parton Showers

By considering clans as genuine elementary subprocesses, i.e., intermediate parton sources in the Simplified Parton Shower model, a generalized version of this model is defined. It predicts analytically clan properties at parton level in agreement with the general trends observed experimentally at hadronic level and in Monte Carlo simulations both at partonic and hadronic level. In particular the model shows a linear rising in rapidity of the average number of clans at fixed energy of the initial parton and its subsequent bending for rapidity intervals at the border of phase space, and approximate energy independence of the average number of clans in fixed rapidity intervals. The energy independence becomes stricter by properly normalizing the average number of clans.

The Generalized Simplified Parton Shower Model

We explore the consequences of considering clans real physical objects in the framework of a generalized version of the Simplified Parton Shower model for a single jet. We predict that the average number of clans at fixed energy grows linearly in rapidity and slowly decreases with energy in a fixed rapidity interval.

Void Analysis and Hierarchical Structure for Single Jets

After a brief review of the theoretical basis of void scaling function properties of hierarchical structure, we analyze the phenomenological consequences at single jet level in Monte Carlo e+e- annihilation events. We find an interesting alternative approach for characterizing quark and gluon jets.
