Two-dimensional collective Hamiltonian for chiral and wobbling modes

A two-dimensional collective Hamiltonian (2DCH) on both azimuth and polar motions in triaxial nuclei is proposed to investigate the chiral and wobbling modes. In the 2DCH, the collective potential and the mass parameters are determined from three-dimensional tilted axis cranking (TAC) calculations. The broken chiral and signature symmetries in the TAC solutions are restored by the 2DCH. The validity of the 2DCH is illustrated with a triaxial rotor ($γ=-30^\circ$) coupling to one $h_{11/2}$ proton particle and one $h_{11/2}$ neutron hole. By diagonalizing the 2DCH, the angular momenta and energy spectra are obtained. These results agree with the exact solutions of the particle rotor model (PRM) at high rotational frequencies. However, at low frequencies, the energies given by the 2DCH are larger than those by the PRM due to the underestimation of the mass parameters. In addition, with increasing angular momentum, the transitions from the chiral vibration to chiral rotation and further to longitudinal wobbling motion have been presented in the 2DCH.

Skyrme Random-Phase-Approximation description of lowest $K^π=2^+_γ$ states in axially deformed nuclei

The lowest quadrupole $γ$-vibrational $K^π=2^+$ states in axially deformed rare-earth (Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, Hf, W) and actinide (U) nuclei are systematically investigated within the separable random-phase-approximation (SRPA) based on the Skyrme functional. The energies $E_γ$ and reduced transition probabilities $B(E2)$ of $2^+_γ$-states are calculated with the Skyrme forces SV-bas and SkM$^*$. The energies of two-quasiparticle configurations forming the SRPA basis are corrected by using the pairing blocking effect. This results in a systematic downshift of $E_γ$ by 0.3-0.5 MeV and thus in a better agreement with the experiment, especially in Sm, Gd, Dy, Hf, and W regions. For other isotopic chains, a noticeable overestimation of $E_γ$ and too weak collectivity of $2^+_γ$-states still persist. It is shown that domains of nuclei with a low and high $2^+_γ$ -collectivity are related with the structure of the lowest 2-quasiparticle states and conservation of the Nilsson selection rules. The description of $2^+_γ$ states with SV-bas and SkM$^*$ is similar in light rare-earth nuclei but deviates in heavier nuclei. However SV-bas much better reproduces the quadrupole deformation and energy of the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonance. The accuracy of SRPA is justified by comparison with exact RPA. The calculations suggest that a further development of the self-consistent calculation schemes is needed for a systematic satisfactory description of the $2^+_γ$ states.

Collective Hamiltonian for chiral modes

A collective model is proposed to describe the chiral rotation and vibration and applied to a system with one $h_{11/2}$ proton particle and one $h_{11/2}$ neutron hole coupled to a triaxial rigid rotor. The collective Hamiltonian is constructed from the potential energy and mass parameter obtained in the tilted axis cranking approach. By diagonalizing the collective Hamiltonian with a box boundary condition, it is found that for the chiral rotation, the partner states become more degenerate with the increase of the cranking frequency, and for the chiral vibrations, their important roles for the collective excitation are revealed at the beginning of the chiral rotation region.

Multiple reflection-asymmetric type band structures in $^{220}Th$ and dinuclear model

The negative parity bands in $^{220}$Th are analyzed within the dinuclear system model which was previously used for describing the alternating-parity bands in deformed actinides. The model is based on the assumption that cluster type shapes are produced by the motion of nuclear system in the mass-asymmetry coordinate. To describe the reflection-asymmetric collective modes characterized by nonzero values of $K$, the intrinsic excitations of clusters are taken into account. The angular momentum dependence of the parity splitting and the staggering behavior of the $B(E1)/B(E2)$ ratios as functions of angular momentum are explained.

Pseudospin symmetry and structure of nuclei with $Z\ge$ 100

In the framework of the Relativistic Mean Field Approach a pseudospin dependence of the residual forces in nuclei is considered. It is shown that this dependence is relatively weak. As a consequence, a pseudospin dependence of the particle--core coupling is weak as well. This leads to a small splitting of the pseudospin doublets produced by a vector coupling of an odd particle pseudospin and a pseudo--orbital momentum of the core. Some possibilities for experimental investigations of the manifestations of the pseudospin symmetry in the spectra of odd nuclei with $Z\ge$ 100 are indicated.

On neutron number dependence of B(E1;0+ --> 1-) reduced transition probability

A neutron number dependence of the E1 0+ --> 1- reduced transition probability in spherical even--even nuclei is analysed within the Q--phonon approach in the fermionic space to describe the structure of collective states. Microscopic calculations of the E1 0+ --> 1- transition matrix elements are carried out for the Xe isotopes based on the RPA for the ground state wave function. A satisfactory description of the experimental data is obtained.

Q-phonon description of low lying 1^- two-phonon states in spherical nuclei

The properties of 1^-_1 two-phonon states and the characteristics of E1 transition probabilities between low-lying collective states in spherical nuclei are analysed within the Q-phonon approach to the description of collective states. Several relations between observables are obtained. Microscopic calculations of the E1 0^+_1 -> 1^-_1 transition matrix elements are performed on the basis of the RPA. A satisfactory description of the experimental data is obtained.

Cluster Interpretation of Properties of Alternating Parity Bands in Heavy Nuclei

The properties of the states of the alternating parity bands in actinides, Ba, Ce and Nd isotopes are analyzed within a cluster model. The model is based on the assumption that cluster type shapes are produced by the collective motion of the nuclear system in the mass asymmetry coordinate. The calculated spin dependences of the parity splitting and of the electric multipole transition moments are in agreement with the experimental data.

Simple relations among E2 matrix elements of low-lying collective states

A method is developed to derive simple relations among the reduced matrix elements of the quadrupole operator between low-lying collective states. As an example, the fourth order scalars of Q are considered. The accuracy and validity of the proposed relations is checked for the ECQF Hamiltonian of the IBM-1 in the whole parameter space of the Casten triangle. Furthermore these relations are successfully tested for low-lying collective states in nuclei for which all relevant data is available.

Quasideuteron states with deformed core

The M1 transitions between low-lying T=1 and T=0 states in deformed odd-odd N=Z nuclei are analyzed in the frames of the rotor-plus-particle model. Using the representation of an explicit coupling of angular momenta we show that strong coupling of the quasideuteron configurations to the axially deformed core results in a distribution of the total 0+ --> 1+ strength among a few low-lying 1+ states. Simple analytical formulae for B(M1) values are derived. The realization of the M1 sum rule for the low-lying 1+,T=0 states is indicated. The calculated B(M1) values are found to be in good agreement with experimental data and reveal specific features of collectivity in odd-odd N=Z nuclei.

Shell model description of "mixed-symmetry" states in 94Mo

Shell model calculations have been performed for the nucleus 94Mo. The calculated excitation energies and electromagnetic properties of low-lying states are in good agreement with the data, which include states with mixed-symmetry (MS) assignments in previous interacting boson model studies. In the shell model large isoscalar E2 matrix elements are found between states with MS assignments indicating that they form a class of states with similar proton-neutron symmetry.

Quadrupole shape invariants in the interacting boson model

In terms of the Interacting Boson Model, shape invariants for the ground state, formed by quadrupole moments up to sixth order, are studied in the dynamical symmetry limits and, for the first time, over the whole structural range of the IBM-1. The results are related to the effective deformation parameters and their fluctuations in the geometrical model. New signatures that can distinguish vibrator and gamma-soft rotor structures, and one that is related to shape coexistence, are identified.

Parity splitting in the alternating parity bands of some actinide nuclei

An angular momentum dependence of the parity splitting in the alternating parity bands of nuclei with strong octupole correlations is considered basing on the model of the octupole motion in a one-dimensional potential well conserving axial symmetry. A sign reversal of the parity splitting at higher values of the angular momentum is interpreted as a result of the Coriolis coupling to K=1 octupole mode. New experimental data on the spectra of the alternating parity octupole bands are used.

Formal comparison of SUSY in the nuclear U(6/2) model and in quantum field theory

A nuclear physics example of the U(6/2) supersymmetry group is considered. It is shown that this group contains a supersymmetric subgroup with a structure similar to the SUSY model of the quantum field theory (QFT). A comparison of two models help to clarify the relation between the supersymmetry schemes of QFT and of nuclear physics. Using this similarity a relation between the numbers of the bosonic and fermionic states similar to the fundamental relation in QFT is obtained. For those supermultiplets with at least two fermions the number of the bosonic and fermionic states are equal as in QFT.

Quasi-Deuteron Configurations in odd-odd N=Z nuclei

The isovector M1 transitions between low-lying T=1 and T=0 states in odd-odd N=Z nuclei are analyzed. Simple analytical expressions for M1 transition strengths are derived within a single-j-shell approximation for both j=l+1/2 and j=l-1/2 cases. The large B(M1) values for the j=l+1/2 case are attributed to quasi-deuteron configurations. The B(M1) values for the j=l-1/2 case are found to be small due to partly cancellation of spin and orbital parts of the M1 matrix element.

Dynamic Approach to Fusion of Massive Nuclei

The role of the entrance channel in the fusion-fission reactions leading to nearly the same superheavy compound nucleus is studied in the framework of dynamic model. The calculations are done for $^{48}$Ca + $^{244}$Pu and $^{74,76}$Ge + $^{208}$Pb reactions which could lead to formation of superheavy element Z=114. It is shown that for these reactions there is an energy window for the values of the bombarding energy at which a capture probability is sufficiently large. Together with the restriction coming from the intrinsic barrier for fusion, it helps to find an optimal value of the bombarding energy for a given projectile-target combination.

Friction Coefficient for Deep-Inelastic Heavy-Ion Collisions

Based on the microscopic model, the friction coefficient for the relative motion of nuclei in deep-inelastic heavy-ion collisions is calculated. The radial dependence of the friction coefficient is studied and the results are compared with those found by other methods. Based on this result, it was demonstrated that the kinetic energy dissipation in deep-inelastic heavy-ion collisions is a gradual process which takes up a significant part of a reaction time. An advantage of the suggested method is that it allows one to consider the relative motion of nuclei and the intrinsic motion self-consistently.
