Averages of $b$-hadron, $c$-hadron, and $τ$-lepton properties as of 2018

This paper reports world averages of measurements of $b$-hadron, $c$-hadron, and $τ$-lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group using results available through September 2018. In rare cases, significant results obtained several months later are also used. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, CP violation parameters, parameters of semileptonic decays, and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements.

Snowmass 2021 Letter of Interest: Decays of Heavy Flavors Beauty, Charm, and Tau

The Heavy Flavor Averaging Group provides this Letter of Interest (LOI) as input to the Snowmass 2021 Particle Physics Community Planning Exercise organized by the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. Research in heavy flavor physics is an essential component of particle physics, both within and beyond the Standard Model. To fully realize the potential of this field, we advocate strong support within the U.S. high energy physics program for ongoing and future experimental and theory research in heavy flavor physics.

HFLAV input to the update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics

The Heavy Flavor Averaging Group provides with this document input to the European Strategy for Particle Physics. Research in heavy-flavor physics is an essential component of the particle-physics program, both within and beyond the Standard Model. To fully realize the potential of the field, we believe the strategy should include strong support for the ongoing experimental and theoretical heavy-flavor research, future upgrades of existing facilities, and significant heavy-flavor capabilities at future colliders, including dedicated experiments.

Planning the Future of U.S. Particle Physics (Snowmass 2013): Chapter 3: Energy Frontier

These reports present the results of the 2013 Community Summer Study of the APS Division of Particles and Fields ("Snowmass 2013") on the future program of particle physics in the U.S. Chapter 3, on the Energy Frontier, discusses the program of research with high-energy colliders. This area includes experiments on the Higgs boson, the electroweak and strong interactions, and the top quark. It also encompasses direct searches for new particles and interactions at high energy.

Higgs Working Group Report of the Snowmass 2013 Community Planning Study

This report summarizes the work of the Energy Frontier Higgs Boson working group of the 2013 Community Summer Study (Snowmass). We identify the key elements of a precision Higgs physics program and document the physics potential of future experimental facilities as elucidated during the Snowmass study. We study Higgs couplings to gauge boson and fermion pairs, double Higgs production for the Higgs self-coupling, its quantum numbers and $CP$-mixing in Higgs couplings, the Higgs mass and total width, and prospects for direct searches for additional Higgs bosons in extensions of the Standard Model. Our report includes projections of measurement capabilities from detailed studies of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC), a Gamma-Gamma Collider, the International Linear Collider (ILC), the Large Hadron Collider High-Luminosity Upgrade (HL-LHC), Very Large Hadron Colliders up to 100 TeV (VLHC), a Muon Collider, and a Triple-Large Electron Positron Collider (TLEP).

Baryon Number Violation

This report, prepared for the Community Planning Study - Snowmass 2013 - summarizes the theoretical motivations and the experimental efforts to search for baryon number violation, focussing on nucleon decay and neutron-antineutron oscillations. Present and future nucleon decay search experiments using large underground detectors, as well as planned neutron-antineutron oscillation search experiments with free neutron beams are highlighted.

Testing for CPT Violation in B0_s Semileptonic Decays

A D0 analysis measuring the charge asymmetry Ab_sl of like-sign dimuon events due to semileptonic b-hadron decays at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider has shown indications of possible anomalous CP violation in the mixing of neutral B mesons. This result has been used to extract the first senstivity to CPT violation in the B0_s system. A procedure to explore further this anomaly by specifically measuring the semileptonic charge asymmetry, as_sl, in B0_s decays is described, as well as how a variant of this analysis can be used to explore a larger set of CPT-violating parameters in the B0_s system for the first time.

Averages of b-hadron, c-hadron, and tau-lepton Properties

This article reports world averages for measurements of b-hadron, c-hadron, and tau-lepton properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using results available at least through the end of 2009. Some of the world averages presented use data available through the spring of 2010. For the averaging, common input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and known correlations are taken into account. The averages include branching fractions, lifetimes, neutral meson mixing parameters, CP violation parameters, and parameters of semileptonic decays.

CPT violation and B-meson oscillations

Recent evidence for anomalous CP violation in B-meson oscillations can be interpreted as resulting from CPT violation. This yields the first sensitivity to CPT violation in the B_s^0 system, with the relevant coefficient for CPT violation constrained at the level of parts in 10^{12}.

D0 Evidence for CP Violation and Implication for CPT Violation in B-Meson Mixing

An analysis from the D0 Collaboration measuring the charge asymmetry A^b_sl of like-sign dimuon events due to semileptonic b-hadron decays at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider is described. It differs by 3.2 standard deviations from the Standard Model prediction to provide first evidence of CPT-invariant anomalous CP violation in the mixing of neutral B mesons, and is compared to the CP-violating phase obtained from a D0 analysis of the time-dependent decay angles in B0_s -> J/psi phi. If CPT violation is allowed, the dimuon asymmetry also yields the first sensitivity to CPT violation in the B0_s system.

Branching fractions of B^0s decays into specific CP eigenstates are presented, and these and other results are combined in world averages to evaluate implications on the width difference between mass or CP eigenstates, ΔΓ_s. New results on purely leptonic decays of B hadrons from the Tevatron and B factories are also presented.
