$K_1$-Stability of symplectic modules over monoid algebras

Let $R$ be a regular ring of dimension $d$ and $L$ be a $c$-divisible monoid. If ${K}_1{Sp}(R)$ is trivial and $k \geq d+2,$ then we prove that the symplectic group ${Sp}_{2k}(R[L])$ is generated by elementary symplectic matrices over $R[L]$. When $d \leq 1$ or $R$ is a geometrically regular ring containing a field, then improved bounds have been established. We also discuss the linear case, extending the work of Gubeladze.

Elementary Action of Classical Groups on Unimodular Rows Over Monoid Rings

The elementary action of symplectic and orthogonal groups on unimodular rows of length $2n$ is transitive for $2n \geq \max(4, d+2)$ in the symplectic case, and $2n \geq \max(6, 2d+4)$ in the orthogonal case, over monoid rings $R[M]$, where $R$ is a commutative noetherian ring of dimension $d$, and $M$ is commutative cancellative torsion free monoid. As a consequence, one gets the surjective stabilization bound for the $K_1$ for classical groups. This is an extension of J. Gubeladze's results for linear groups.

Results on $\mathrm{K}_1$ of general quadratic groups

In the first part of this article we discuss the relative cases of Quillen-Suslin's local-global principle for the general quadratic (Bak's unitary) groups, and its applications for the (relative) stable and unstable $\mathrm{K}_1$-groups. The second part is dedicated to the graded version of the local-global principle for the general quadratic groups and its application to deduce a result for Bass' nil groups.

NK_1 of Bak's unitary group over Graded Rings

For an associative ring $R$ with identity, we study the absence of $k$-torsion in NK_1GQ(R); Bass nil-groups for the general quadratic or Bak's unitary groups. By using a graded version of Quillen--Suslin theory we deduce an analog for the graded rings.

Quillen--Suslin Theory; Revisited over Graded Rings

In this paper we deduce a graded version of Quillen--Suslin's Local-Global Principle for the traditional classical groups, viz. general linear, symplectic and orthogonal groups and establish its equivalence of the normality property of the respective elementary subgroups. This generalizes previous result of Basu--Rao--Khanna. Then, as an application, we establish an analogue Local-Global Principle for the commutator subgroups of the special linear and symplectic groups. Finally, by using Swan-Weibel's homotopy trick, we establish graded analogue of the Local-Global Principle for the transvection subgroups of the full automorphism groups of the linear, symplectic and orthogonal modules. This generalizes the previous result of Bak--Basu--Rao.

The Pillars of Relative Quillen--Suslin Theory

We deduce the relative version of the equivalences relating the relative Local Global Principle and the Normality of the relative Elementary subgroups of the traditional classical groups, viz. general linear, symplectic and orthogonal groups. This generalizes our previous result for the absolute case.

A note on general quadratic groups

We deduce an analogue of Quillen--Suslin's local-global principle for the transvection subgroups of the general quadratic (Bak's unitary) groups. As an application we revisit the result of Bak--Petrov--Tang on injective stabilization for the K_1-functor of the general quadratic groups.

Absence of torsion for NK_1(R) over associative rings

When R is a commutative ring with identity, and if k is a natural number with kR = R, then C. Weibel proved that SK_1(R[X]) has no k-torsion. We reprove his result for any associative ring R with identity in which kR = R.

A note on Quadratic and Hermitian Groups

In this article we deduce an analogue of Quillen's Local-Global Principle for the elementary subgroup of the general quadratic group and the hermitian group. We show that the unstable K_1-groups of the hermitian groups are nilpotent by abelian. This generalizes earlier results of A. Bak, R. Hazrat, N. Vavilov and etal..

Injective Stability for K_1 of Classical Modules

In 1994, the second author and W. van der Kallen showed that the injective stabilization bound for K_1 of general linear group is d+1 over a regular affine algebra over a perfect C_1-field, where d is the krull dimension of the base ring and it is finite and at least 2. In this article we prove that the injective stabilization bound for K_1 of the symplectic group is d+1 over a geometrically regular ring containing a field, where d is the stable dimension of the base ring and it is finite and at least 2. Then using the Local-Global Principle for the transvection subgroup of the automorphism group of projective and symplectic modules we show that the injective stabilization bound is d+1 for k_1 of projective and symplectic modules of global rank at least 1 and local rank at least 3 respectively in each of the two cases above.

Local-Global Principle for Transvection Groups

In this article we extend the validity Suslin's Local-Global Principle for the elementary transvection subgroup of the general linear group, the symplectic group, and the orthogonal group, where n > 2, to a Local-Global Principle for the elementary transvection subgroup of the automorphism group Aut(P) of either a projective module P of global rank > 0 and constant local rank > 2, or of a nonsingular symplectic or orthogonal module P of global hyperbolic rank > 0 and constant local hyperbolic rank > 2. In Suslin's results, the local and global ranks are the same, because he is concerned only with free modules. Our assumption that the global (hyperbolic) rank > 0 is used to define the elementary transvection subgroups. We show further that the elementary transvection subgroup ET(P) is normal in Aut(P), that ET(P) = T(P) where the latter denotes the full transvection subgroup of Aut(P), and that the unstable K_1-group K_1(Aut(P)) = Aut(P)/ET(P) = Aut(P)/T(P) is nilpotent by abelian, provided R has finite stable dimension. The last result extends previous ones of Bak and Hazrat for the above mentioned classical groups. An important application to the results in the current paper can be found in the work of last two named authors where they have studied the decrease in the injective stabilization of classical modules over a non-singular affine algebra over perfect C_1-fields. We refer the reader to that article for more details.
