Coalescence of Anderson-localized modes at an exceptional point in 2D random media

In non-hermitian systems, the particular position at which two eigenstates coalesce under a variation of a parameter in the complex plane is called an exceptional point. A non-perturbative theory is proposed which describes the evolution of modes in 2D open dielectric systems when permittivity distribution is modified. We successfully test this theory in a 2D disordered system to predict the position in the parameter space of the exceptional point between two Anderson-localized states. We observe that the accuracy of the prediction depends on the number of localized states accounted for. Such an exceptional point is experimentally accessible in practically relevant disordered photonic systems

First Step in Theoretical Approach in Study of Mars and Titan Atmospheres with an Inductively Coupled Plasma Torch

To obtain the modelling of an ICP torch that can be used as a test case, we have to determine all the thermodynamic properties and transport coefficients. To calculate the data we have first to determine the composition and the collisions integrals for all the species in the purpose to calculate the transport coefficients. We apply the calculation to the Mars and to the Titan atmosphere compositions. The intensities of the spectral lines are determined versus temperature.

A numerical study of heat island flows in an open domain: Stationary solutions

We present two dimensional numerical simulations of a natural convection problem in an unbounded domain. A thermal stratification is applied in the vertical direction and the flow circulation is induced by a heat island located on the ground. For this problem, thermal perturbations are convected in the horizontal direction far from the heated element so that very elongated computational domains have to be used in order to compute accurate numerical solutions. To avoid this difficulty thermal sponge layers are added at the vertical boundaries. With this approach, stationary solutions at $Ra\le 10^5$ are investigated. Boussinesq equations are discretized with a second-order finite volume scheme on a staggered grid combined with a second-order projection method for the time integration.

An accurate finite element method for elliptic interface problems

A finite element method for elliptic problems with discontinuous coefficients is presented. The discontinuity is assumed to take place along a closed smooth curve. The proposed method allows to deal with meshes that are not adapted to the discontinuity line. The (nonconforming) finite element space is enriched with local basis functions. We prove an optimal convergence rate in the $H^1$--norm. Numerical tests confirm the theoretical results.

Asymptotic behaviour of the inductance coefficient for thin conductors

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the inductance coefficient for a thin toroidal inductor whose thickness depends on a small parameter $\eps>0$. We give an explicit form of the singular part of the corresponding potential $u\ue$ which allows to construct the limit potential $u$ (as $\eps\to 0$) and an approximation of the inductance coefficient $L\ue$. We establish some estimates of the deviation $u\ue-u$ and of the error of approximation of the inductance. We show that $L\ue$ behaves asymptotically as $\ln\eps$, when $\eps\to 0$.

A Two-dimensional eddy current model using thin inductors

We derive a mathematical model for eddy currents in two dimensional geometries where the conductors are thin domains. We assume that the current flows in the $x\_3$-direction and the inductors are domains with small diameters of order $O(ε)$. The model is derived by taking the limit $ε\to 0$. A convergence rate of $O(ε^α)$ with $0<α<1/2$ in the $L^2$--norm is shown as well as weak convergence in the $W^{1,p}$ spaces for $1< p <2$.
