Analysis of Teachers Management Policy: A Case Study of South Bangka, Indonesia

Teachers are the spearhead of improving the quality of education. The law clearly describes the duties and professional functions of teachers along with the standard qualifications that must be met. The division of education affairs between the Central Government and Regional Governments should facilitate teacher management. But the management of teachers is still a classic problem that has not been resolved. Data regarding the attainment of teacher professional competence shows that teacher capability is still far from expectations. Adequate provision of teacher capabilities is a very urgent matter for the government to carry out if it wants teachers to be able to carry out their duties and functions correctly according to what has been mandated by law. This paper will present the problems faced by the government, especially local governments in teacher management. Next, it presents an analysis of a series of teacher management policies carried out by the local government which in this paper takes the case in South Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province.

Development of Classroom Management Based on Student Learning Style Database

This study aims to produce a classroom management application based on a database of student learning styles to identify and analyze student learning styles and match them with appropriate learning methods and media. This application is expected to facilitate classroom management according to student preferences. This research was research and development. Respondents were 198 people consisting of 30 teachers and 168 students at a Junior High School in South Bangka Indonesia. The data analysis used quantitative data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the application developed was feasible to be used to identify and analyze student learning styles and provide suggestions for learning methods and media that teachers should use in classroom management. The level of application eligibility in terms of technical aspects reaches 4.75 and the content aspect reaches 4.80. This application proved to be useful for teachers in class management as evidenced by the achievement of the usability test score by the teacher reaching 4.40. The usefulness of the application from the students perspective can be seen from the increase in the attractiveness of learning that occurs after the teacher uses this application compared to before.

The Use of Fractional Blocks to Improve Mathematics for Second Grade Elementary School Students at South Bangka Indonesia

This study aims to improve mathematics learning results in the second grade of elementary school, especially the matter of fractions. The background of the research is the low learning outcomes achieved by students due to the learning carried out does not pay attention to the level of student development. This research was classroom action research. The research subjects were 23 students. The data collection instrument used the observation sheet and documentation. Quantitative data analysis techniques with descriptive statistics were used in this study to compare conditions before and after the action was carried out. The results showed an increase in mathematics learning outcomes in the subject of fractions. Student motivation shown in the implementation of learning in the second cycle reached 3.91 (high category) with N-Gain reaching 46.49%. The level of completeness has reached 100%. The average value obtained by students in the second cycle was 80.2 and N-Gain reached 34.16%. This increase was due to the learning carried out using fractional blocks. These results illustrate that the use of fractional blocks can improve mathematics learning outcomes, especially in the subject of fractions.

Application of the "Among" Leadership Model to Improve Teacher Work Discipline

This study aims to improve teacher work discipline related to their duties as classroom teachers. This research is a school action research conducted for four months starting in October 2018 to January 2019 at SDN 11 Simpang Rimba, South Bangka, Indonesia in the 2018/2019 academic year. The data collection instrument used observation sheets and documentation. Data analysis used quantitative data analysis techniques with descriptive statistics. The results of this study indicate that the application of the "Among" leadership model can improve teacher work discipline in the aspects of arriving on time, work hours fulfillment, and prepare lesson plans.

The Most Considered Type of Student Characteristics by Primary School Teacher

This study aims to determine what type of student characteristic most considered by teachers in primary school and their influence on student learning achievement. For this purpose, 37 class teachers of grade 4th to 6th from seven primary schools were the respondents. Categorizing the level of identification students characteristics by the teacher using a questionnaire on the application of student characteristics that is deepened by the study of learning planning documents intended to provide an overview of the types of students characteristics that are considered most important to be done by primary school teachers. The results show that the level of student intelligence is the type of student characteristics most considered by primary school teachers. By comparing the value of student achievement it can be seen that the learning developed by paying attention to students intelligence levels are better than learning that does not pay attention to it.

What are The Suitable Instructional Strategy and Media for Student Learning Styles in Middle Schools?

This study aims to find out what instructional strategy and media more properly based on learning styles in middle schools. For this purpose, 307 students of 7th to 9th grade from three middle schools were the respondents. Index Learning Styles was used to know the student learning styles based on Felder-Silverman learning styles. The students were also asked with the questions to know what instructional strategy and media they like much. The results show instructional strategies that could be applicated in middle schools are; question and answer methods, student presentations, games and simulations, lectures, problem solving based learning, role playing, and panel discussions. Instructional media that could be applicated are; pictures, graphics, videos, simulations, online group learning, newspapers, chatting/messenger, powerpoint slides, computer animations, book/e-book, magazines, audio recorded, and email. This is than checked off with the combinations of student learning style to get the most suitable one.
