From Natural Language Policies to Executable Obligations: A Verification Harness for Dependable In-Car LLM Agents

Large Language Models (LLMs) agents deployed in vehicles must satisfy a written operating policy on every turn: a single hallucinated identifier, omitted mandatory side-effect, or premature completion claim fails the task. We present AgentGuardUtil, our entry to CAR-bench Track~1, which treats the AI planer (LLM) as a fallible proposer inside a grounded verify-and-revise loop. Its core novelty is a runtime policy compiler: the natural-language policy shipped with each conversation is compiled, once per policy, into typed machine-checkable rules, a subset of which receive an executable form. A deterministic obligation engine interprets these rules against live tool results and the simulated post-write state of the draft itself, emitting the exact remedial calls with computed arguments rather than natural-language reminders. Around this engine, 25 deterministic gates (identifier provenance, schema and enum validity, gather-before-act, confirmation and future-time protocols) and an LLM critic produce tiered findings that drive a bounded revision loop tuned for the pass k metric.

Enhancing Uncertainty Quantification for Runtime Safety Assurance Using Causal Risk Analysis and Operational Design Domain

Ensuring the runtime safety of autonomous systems remains challenging due to deep learning components' inherent uncertainty and their sensitivity to environmental changes. In this paper, we propose an enhancement of traditional uncertainty quantification by explicitly incorporating environmental conditions using risk-based causal analysis. We leverage Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) and fault tree modeling to identify critical operational conditions affecting system functionality. These conditions, together with uncertainties from the data and model, are integrated into a unified Bayesian Network (BN). At runtime, this BN is instantiated using real-time environmental observations to infer a probabilistic distribution over the safety estimation. This distribution enables the computation of both expected performance and its associated variance, providing a dynamic and context-aware measure of uncertainty. We demonstrate our approach through a case study of the Object Detection (OD) component in an Automated Valet Parking (AVP).

Towards Continuous Assurance Case Creation for ADS with the Evidential Tool Bus

An assurance case has become an integral component for the certification of safety-critical systems. While manually defining assurance case patterns can be not avoided, system-specific instantiations of assurance case patterns are both costly and time-consuming. It becomes especially complex to maintain an assurance case for a system when the requirements of the System-Under-Assurance change, or an assurance claim becomes invalid due to, e.g., degradation of a systems component, as common when deploying learning-enabled components. In this paper, we report on our preliminary experience leveraging the tool integration framework Evidential Tool Bus (ETB) for the construction and continuous maintenance of an assurance case from a predefined assurance case pattern. Specifically, we demonstrate the assurance process on an industrial Automated Valet Parking system from the automotive domain. We present the formalization of the provided assurance case pattern in the ETB processable logical specification language of workflows. Our findings show that ETB is able to create and maintain evidence required for the construction of an assurance case.
