Large Deviations, Central Limit and dynamical phase transitions in the atom maser

The theory of quantum jump trajectories provides a new framework for understanding dynamical phase transitions in open systems. A candidate for such transitions is the atom maser, which for certain parameters exhibits strong intermittency in the atom detection counts, and has a bistable stationary state. Although previous numerical results suggested that the "free energy" may not be a smooth function, we show that the atom detection counts satisfy a large deviations principle, and therefore we deal with a phase cross-over rather than a genuine phase transition. We argue however that the latter occurs in the limit of infinite pumping rate. As a corollary, we obtain the Central Limit Theorem for the counting process. The proof relies on the analysis of a certain deformed generator whose spectral bound is the limiting cumulant generating function. The latter is shown to be smooth, so that a large deviations principle holds by the Gartner-Ellis Theorem. One of the main ingredients is the Krein-Rutman theory which extends the Perron-Frobenius theorem to a general class of positive compact semigroups.

On a generalized Central Limit Theorem and Large Deviations for Homogeneous Open Quantum Walks

We consider homogeneous open quantum random walks on a lattice with finite dimensional local Hilbert space and we study in particular the position process of the quantum trajectories of the walk. We prove that the properly rescaled position process asymptotically approaches a mixture of Gaussian measures. We can generalize the existing central limit type results and give more explicit expressions for the involved asymptotic quantities, dropping any additional condition on the walk. We use deformation and spectral techniques, together with reducibility properties of the local channel associated with the open quantum walk. Further, we can provide a large deviations' principle in the case of a fast recurrent local channel and at least lower and upper bounds in the general case.

On period, cycles and fixed points of a quantum channel

We consider a quantum channel acting on an infinite dimensional von Neumann algebra of operators on a separable Hilbert space. When there exists an invariant normal faithful state, the cyclic properties of such channels are investigated passing through the decoherence free algebra and the fixed points domain. Both these spaces are proved to be images of a normal conditional expectation so that their consequent atomic structure are analyzed in order to give a better description of the action of the channel and, for instance, of its Kraus form and invariant densities.

Irreducible decompositions and stationary states of quantum channels

For a quantum channel (completely positive, trace-preserving map), we prove a generalization to the infinite dimensional case of a result by Baumgartner and Narnhofer. This result is, in a probabilistic language, a decomposition of a general quantum channel into its irreducible positive recurrent components. This decomposition is related with a communication relation on the reference Hilbert space. This allows us to describe the full structure of invariant states of a quantum channel, and of their supports.

Homogeneous Open Quantum Random Walks on a lattice

We study Open Quantum Random Walks for which the underlying graph is a lattice, and the generators of the walk are translation-invariant. We consider the quantum trajectory associated with the OQRW, which is described by a position process and a state process. We obtain a central limit theorem and a large deviation principle for the position process, and an ergodic result for the state process. We study in detail the case of homogeneous OQRWs on a lattice, with internal space $h={\mathbb C}^2$.

Open Quantum Random Walks: reducibility, period, ergodic properties

We study the analogues of irreducibility, period, and communicating classes for open quantum random walks, as defined by Attal et al. (J. Stat. Phys., 2012). We recover results similar to the standard ones for Markov chains, in terms of ergodic behavior, decomposition into irreducible subsystems, and characterization of stationary states.

Logarithmic Sobolev inequalities and exponential entropy decay in non-commutative algebras

We study the relations between (tight) logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, entropy decay and spectral gap inequalities for Markov evolutions on von Neumann algebras. We prove that log-Sobolev inequalities (in the non-commutative form defined by Olkiewicz and Zegarlinski) imply spectral gap inequalities, with optimal relation between the constants. Furthermore, we show that a uniform exponential decay of a proper relative entropy is equivalent to a modified version of log-Sobolev inequalities; this entropy decay turns out to be implied by the usual log-Sobolev inequality adding some regularity conditions on the quadratic forms.
