Equivariant motives and geometric representation theory. (with an appendix by F. Hörmann and M. Wendt)

We consider categories of equivariant mixed Tate motives, where equivariant is understood in the sense of Borel. We give the two usual definitions of equivariant motives, via the simplicial Borel construction and via algebraic approximations of it. The definitions turn out to be equivalent and give rise to a full six-functor formalism. For rational étale motives over a finite field or the homotopical stable algebraic derivator arising from the semisimplified Hodge realization, the equivariant mixed Tate motives provide a graded version of the equivariant derived category. We show that, in sufficiently nice and clean cases, these categories admit weight structures; moreover, a tilting result holds which identifies the category of equivariant mixed Tate motives with the bounded homotopy category of the heart of its weight structure. This can be seen as a formality result for equivariant derived categories. We also discuss convolution functors on equivariant mixed Tate motives, and consequences for the categorification of the Hecke algebra and some of its modules.

Some geometric facets of the Langlands correspondence for real groups

This note concerns geometric aspects of the local Langlands correspondence for real groups as extended from Langlands' original work by Adams-Barbasch-Vogan, and further (conjectural) formulations by W. Soergel. The main result concerns purity (in the sense of weights in Hodge theory) of equivariant extension groups between simple objects on the Adams-Barbasch-Vogan geometric parameter space (for trivial infinitesimal character).

On Euler-Poincare characteristics

It is well known that the Euler characteristic of the cohomology of a complex algebraic variety coincides with the Euler characteristic of its cohomology with compact support. An old result of G. Laumon asserts that a relative version of this statement is true in $\ell$-adic cohomology. The purpose of this note is to extend Laumon's result to the topological setting. Some applications are also discussed.

Affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras: Actions on tensor space

The affine and degenerate affine Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (BMW) algebras arise naturally in the context of Schur-Weyl duality for orthogonal and symplectic quantum groups and Lie algebras, respectively. Cyclotomic BMW algebras, affine and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, and their degenerate versions are quotients. In this paper we explain how the affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras are tantalizers (tensor power centralizer algebras) by defining actions of the affine braid group and the degenerate affine braid algebra on tensor space and showing that, in important cases, these actions induce actions of the affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras. We then exploit the connection to quantum groups and Lie algebras to determine universal parameters for the affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras. Finally, we show that the universal parameters are central elements--the higher Casimir elements for orthogonal and symplectic enveloping algebras and quantum groups.

Affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras: The center

The degenerate affine and affine BMW algebras arise naturally in the context of Schur-Weyl duality for orthogonal and symplectic Lie algebras and quantum groups, respectively. Cyclotomic BMW algebras, affine Hecke algebras, cyclotomic Hecke algebras, and their degenerate versions are quotients. In this paper the theory is unified by treating the orthogonal and symplectic cases simultaneously; we make an exact parallel between the degenerate affine and affine cases via a new algebra which takes the role of the affine braid group for the degenerate setting. A main result of this paper is an identification of the centers of the affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras in terms of rings of symmetric functions which satisfy a "cancellation property" or "wheel condition" (in the degenerate case, a reformulation of a result of Nazarov). Miraculously, these same rings also arise in Schubert calculus, as the cohomology and K-theory of isotropic Grassmanians and symplectic loop Grassmanians. We also establish new intertwiner-like identities which, when projected to the center, produce the recursions for central elements given previously by Nazarov for degenerate affine BMW algebras, and by Beliakova-Blanchet for affine BMW algebras.

A note on Hecke patterns in Category O

We study the family of derived auto-equivalences of the BGG-category O that correspond to the action of the standard generators of the Hecke algebra. Both the non-graded and graded situations are considered.
