Interference fragmentation functions in electron-positron annihilation

We study the process of electron-positron annihilation into back-to-back jets, where in each jet a pair of hadrons is detected. The orientation of these two pairs with respect to each other can be used to extract the interference fragmentation functions in a clean way, for instance from BELLE or BABAR experiment data. This is of relevance for studies of the transversity distribution function. In particular, we focus on two azimuthal asymmetries. The first one has already been studied by Artru and Collins, but is now expressed in terms of interference fragmentation functions. The second asymmetry is new and involves a function that is related to longitudinal jet handedness. This asymmetry offers a different way of studying handedness correlations.

Spin-dependent Fragmentation Functions

I will give an overview on fragmentation functions with particular emphasis on spin-dependence. A straightforward classification scheme permits to label all independent fragmentation functions for a given physical situation in an unambiguous way. In the context of light-cone quantisation the leading twist fragmentation functions have an intuitive probabilistic interpretation.

Summary Report of the Spin Physics Working Group

The contributions to the Spin Physics WG are summarized. Several new experimental results and plans for new measurements have been reported. An improved theoretical understanding of the most recent hot topics in spin physics has been discussed by many authors especially in the new fields of the transversity and generalized parton distributions.

Wide Angle Compton Scattering

We present the handbag contribution to Wide Angle Compton Scattering (WACS) at moderately large momentum transfer obtained with a proton distribution amplitude close to the asymptotic form. In comparison it is found to be significantly larger than results from the hard scattering (pQCD) approach.

Proton-Proton Elastic Scattering; Landshoff Contributions in the Diquark Model

Independent multiple scattering (`Landshoff') contributions to proton-proton elastic scattering at wide angles are calculated in the quark-diquark model. Results confirm previous observations about the magnitude of these contributions. The use of the quark-diquark model extends the applicability of perturbative QCD calculations down to lower values of momentum transfer substantially.
