Infinite degeneracy of Landau levels from the Euclidean symmetry with central extension revisited

The planar Landau system which describes the quantum mechanical motion of a charged particle in a plane with a uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the plane, is explored within pedagogical settings aimed at the beginning graduate level. The system is known to possess the Euclidean symmetry in two dimensions with central extension $\bar{E}(2)$. In this paper, we revisit the well-known energy eigenvalues of the system, known as the Landau levels, by exploiting the related $\bar{e}(2)$ symmetry algebra. Specifically, we utilize the Casimir operator and the commutation relations of the generators of the $\bar{E}(2)$ group. More importantly, an algebraic formalism on this topic based on Schwinger's oscillator model of angular momentum is also presented. The dimensions of irreducible representations of the $\bar{E}(2)$ group and their implications on the degeneracy of Landau levels is discussed.

A note on a boundary sine-Gordon model at the free-Fermion point

We investigate the free-Fermion point of a boundary sine-Gordon model with nondiagonal boundary interactions for the ground state using auxiliary functions, obtained from T-Q equations of a corresponding inhomogeneous open spin-1/2 XXZ chain with nondiagonal boundary terms. In particular, we obtain the Casimir energy. Our result for the Casimir energy is shown to agree with the result from the TBA approach. The analytical result for the effective central charge in the ultraviolet (UV) limit is also verified from the plots of effective central charge for intermediate values of volume.

The solution of an open XXZ chain with arbitrary spin revisited

The Bethe ansatz solutions for an open XXZ spin chain with arbitrary spin with N sites and nondiagonal boundary terms are revisited. The anisotropy parameter, for cases considered here, has values η= i πr/q, where r and q are positive integers with q restricted to odd integers. Numerical results are presented to support the solutions.

Generalized T-Q relations and the open spin-s XXZ chain with nondiagonal boundary terms

We consider the open spin-s XXZ quantum spin chain with nondiagonal boundary terms. By exploiting certain functional relations at roots of unity, we derive a generalized form of T-Q relation involving more than one independent Q(u), which we use to propose the Bethe-ansatz-type expressions for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix. At most two of the boundary parameters are set to be arbitrary and the bulk anisotropy parameter has values η= iπ/2, iπ/4,... We also provide numerical evidence for the completeness of the Bethe-ansatz-type solutions derived, using s = 1 case as an example.

A note on the IR limit of the NLIEs of boundary supersymmetric sine-Gordon model

We consider the infrared (IR) limit of the nonlinear integral equations (NLIEs) for the boundary supersymmetric sine-Gordon (BSSG) model, previously obtained from the NLIEs for the inhomogeneous open spin-1 XXZ quantum spin chain with general integrable boundary terms, for values of the boundary parameters which satisfy a certain constraint. In particular, we compute the boundary S matrix and determine the "lattice - IR" relation for the BSSG parameters.

On the NLIE of (inhomogeneous) open spin-1 XXZ chain with general integrable boundary terms

Starting from the T-Q equations of the open spin-1 XXZ quantum spin chain with general integrable boundary terms, for values of the boundary parameters which satisfy a certain constraint, we derive a set of nonlinear integral equations (NLIEs) for the inhomogeneous open spin-1 XXZ chain. By taking the continuum limit of these NLIEs, and working in analogy with the open spin-1 XXZ chain with diagonal boundary terms, we compute the boundary and the Casimir energies of the corresponding supersymmetric sine-Gordon (SSG) model. We also present an analytical result for the effective central charge in the ultraviolet (UV) limit.

NLIE and finite size effects of the spin-1/2 XXZ and sine-Gordon models with two boundaries revisited

Starting from the T-Q equation of an open integrable spin-1/2 XXZ quantum spin chain with nondiagonal boundary terms, we derive a nonlinear integral equation (NLIE) of the sine-Gordon model on a finite interval. We compute the boundary energy and the Casimir energy for the sine-Gordon model with both left and right boundaries. A relation between the boundary parameters of the continuum model and the lattice model is given. We also present numerical results for the effective central charge of an open spin-1/2 XXZ quantum spin chain which find agreement with our analytical result for the central charge of the sine-Gordon model in the ultraviolet (UV) limit.

A note on open-chain transfer matrices from q-deformed su(2|2) S-matrices

In this note, we perform Sklyanin's construction of commuting open-chain/boundary transfer matrices to the q-deformed SU(2|2) bulk S-matrix of Beisert and Koroteev and a corresponding boundary S-matrix. This also includes a corresponding commuting transfer matrix using the graded version of the q-deformed bulk S-matrix. Utilizing the crossing property for the bulk S-matrix, we argue that the transfer matrix for both graded and non-graded versions contains a crucial factor which is essential for commutativity.

Bethe ansatz of the open spin-s XXZ chain with nondiagonal boundary terms

We consider the open spin-s XXZ quantum spin chain with nondiagonal boundary terms. By exploiting certain functional relations at roots of unity, we propose the Bethe ansatz solution for the transfer matrix eigenvalues for cases where atmost two of the boundary parameters are set to be arbitrary and the bulk anisotropy parameter has values η= i π/3, i π/5,... We present numerical evidence to demonstrate completeness of the Bethe ansatz solutions derived for s = 1/2 and s = 1.

Open-chain transfer matrices for AdS/CFT

We extend Sklyanin's construction of commuting open-chain transfer matrices to the SU(2|2) bulk and boundary S-matrices of AdS/CFT. Using the graded version of the S-matrices leads to a transfer matrix of particularly simple form. We also find an SU(1|1) boundary S-matrix which has one free boundary parameter.

q-deformed su(2|2) boundary S-matrices via the ZF algebra

Beisert and Koroteev have recently found a bulk S-matrix corresponding to a q-deformation of the centrally-extended su(2|2) algebra of AdS/CFT. We formulate the associated Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra, using which we derive factorizable boundary S-matrices that generalize those of Hofman and Maldacena.

Boundary S matrix of an open XXZ spin chain with nondiagonal boundary terms

Using a recently proposed solution for an open antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 XXZ quantum spin chain with N (even) spins and two arbitrary boundary parameters at roots of unity, we compute the boundary scattering amplitudes for one-hole states. We also deduce the relations between the lattice boundary parameters appearing in the spin-chain Hamiltonian and the IR (infrared) parameters that appear in the boundary sine-Gordon S matrix.

Bethe Ansatz and boundary energy of the open spin-1/2 XXZ chain

We review recent results on the Bethe Ansatz solutions for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of an integrable open XXZ quantum spin chain using functional relations which the transfer matrix obeys at roots of unity. First, we consider a case where at most two of the boundary parameters {$α_-$,$α_+$,$β_-$,$β_+$} are nonzero. A generalization of the Baxter $T-Q$ equation that involves more than one independent $Q$ is described. We use this solution to compute the boundary energy of the chain in the thermodynamic limit. We conclude the paper with a review of some results for the general integrable boundary terms, where all six boundary parameters are arbitrary.

Boundary energy of the general open XXZ chain at roots of unity

We have recently proposed a Bethe Ansatz solution of the open spin-1/2 XXZ quantum spin chain with general integrable boundary terms (containing six free boundary parameters) at roots of unity. We use this solution, together with an appropriate string hypothesis, to compute the boundary energy of the chain in the thermodynamic limit.

Exact solution of the open XXZ chain with general integrable boundary terms at roots of unity

We propose a Bethe-Ansatz-type solution of the open spin-1/2 integrable XXZ quantum spin chain with general integrable boundary terms and bulk anisotropy values i π/(p+1), where p is a positive integer. All six boundary parameters are arbitrary, and need not satisfy any constraint. The solution is in terms of generalized T - Q equations, having more than one Q function. We find numerical evidence that this solution gives the complete set of 2^N transfer matrix eigenvalues, where N is the number of spins.

Boundary energy of the open XXZ chain from new exact solutions

Bethe Ansatz solutions of the open spin-1/2 integrable XXZ quantum spin chain at roots of unity with nondiagonal boundary terms containing two free boundary parameters have recently been proposed. We use these solutions to compute the boundary energy (surface energy) in the thermodynamic limit.

Bethe Ansatz derived from the functional relations of the open XXZ chain for new special cases

The transfer matrix of the general integrable open XXZ quantum spin chain obeys certain functional relations at roots of unity. By exploiting these functional relations, we determine the Bethe Ansatz solution for the transfer matrix eigenvalues for the special cases that all but one of the boundary parameters are zero, and the bulk anisotropy parameter is η= iπ/3, iπ/5 ,... In an Addendum, these results are extended to the cases that any two of the boundary parameters {α_-, α_+,β_-, β_+} are arbitrary and the remaining boundary parameters are either ηor i π/2.
