Regular variation and free regular infinitely divisible laws

In this article the relation between the tail behaviours of a free regular infinitely divisible (positively supported) probability measure and its Lévy measure is studied. An important example of such a measure is the compound free Poisson distribution, which often occurs as a limiting spectral distribution of certain sequences of random matrices. We also describe a connection between an analogous classical result of Embrechts et al. [1979] and our result using the Bercovici-Pata bijection.

Boolean convolutions and regular variation

In this article we study the influence of regularly varying probability measures on additive and multiplicative Boolean convolutions. We introduce the notion of Boolean subexponentiality (for additive Boolean convolution), which extends the notion of classical and free subexponentiality. We show that the distributions with regularly varying tails belong to the class of Boolean subexponential distributions. As an application we also study the behaviour of the Belinschi-Nica map. Breiman's theorem study the classical product convolution between regularly varying measures. We derive an analogous result to Breiman's theorem in case of multiplicative Boolean convolution. In proving these results we exploit the relationship of regular variation with different transforms and their Taylor series expansion.

Extremal process of the zero-average Gaussian Free Field for $d\ge 3$

We consider the Gaussian free field on the torus whose covariance kernel is given by the zero-average Green's function. We show that for dimension $d\ge 3$, the extremal point process associated with this field converges weakly to a Poisson random measure. As an immediate corollary, the maxima of the field converges after appropriate centering and scaling to the Gumbel distribution.

A note on the folklore of free independence

It is shown that a Wishart matrix of standard complex normal random variables is asymptotically freely independent of an independent random matrix, under minimal conditions, in two different sense of asymptotic free independence.

Scaling limit of the odometer in divisible sandpiles

In a recent work Levine et al. (2015) prove that the odometer function of a divisible sandpile model on a finite graph can be expressed as a shifted discrete bilaplacian Gaussian field. For the discrete torus, they suggest the possibility that the scaling limit of the odometer may be related to the continuum bilaplacian field. In this work we show that in any dimension the rescaled odometer converges to the continuum bilaplacian field on the unit torus.

The divisible sandpile with heavy-tailed variables

This work deals with the divisible sandpile model when an initial configuration sampled from a heavy-tailed distribution. Extending results of Levine et al. (2015) and Cipriani et al. (2016) we determine sufficient conditions for stabilization and non-stabilization on infinite graphs. We determine furthermore that the scaling limit of the odometer on the torus is an $α$-stable random distribution.

Extremes of some Gaussian random interfaces

In this article we give a general criterion for some dependent Gaussian models to belong to maximal domain of attraction of Gumbel, following an application of the Stein-Chen method studied in Arratia et al(1989). We also show the convergence of the associated point process. As an application, we show the conditions are satisfied by some of the well-known supercritical Gaussian interface models, namely, membrane model, massive and massless discrete Gaussian free field, fractional Gaussian free field.

From random matrices to long range dependence

Random matrices whose entries come from a stationary Gaussian process are studied. The limiting behavior of the eigenvalues as the size of the matrix goes to infinity is the main subject of interest in this work. It is shown that the limiting spectral distribution is determined by the absolutely continuous component of the spectral measure of the stationary process, a phenomenon resembling that in the situation where the entries of the matrix are i.i.d. On the other hand, the discrete component contributes to the limiting behavior of the eigenvalues in a completely different way. Therefore, this helps to define a boundary between short and long range dependence of a stationary Gaussian process in the context of random matrices.

Extremes of the supercritical Gaussian Free Field

We show that the rescaled maximum of the discrete Gaussian Free Field (DGFF) in dimension larger or equal to 3 is in the maximal domain of attraction of the Gumbel distribution. The result holds both for the infinite-volume field as well as the field with zero boundary conditions. We show that these results follow from an interesting application of the Stein-Chen method from Arratia et al. (1989).

Branching Random Walks, Stable Point Processes and Regular Variation

Using the language of regular variation, we give a sufficient condition for a point process to be in the superposition domain of attraction of a strictly stable point process. This sufficient condition is then used to obtain an explicit representation of the weak limit of a sequence of point processes induced by a branching random walk with jointly regularly varying displacements. As a consequence, we extend the main result of Durrett (1983) and verify that two related predictions of Brunet and Derrida (2011) remain valid for this model.

Point process convergence for branching random walks with regularly varying steps

We consider the limiting behaviour of the point processes associated with a branching random walk with supercritical branching mechanism and balanced regularly varying step size. Assuming that the underlying branching process satisfies Kesten-Stigum condition, it is shown that the point process sequence of properly scaled displacements coming from the n-th generation converges weakly to a Cox cluster process. In particular, we establish that a conjecture of Brunet and Derrida (2011) remains valid in this setup, investigate various other issues mentioned in their paper and recover the main result of Durrett (1983) in our framework.

A note on the extremal process of the supercritical Gaussian Free Field

We consider both the infinite-volume discrete Gaussian Free Field (DGFF) and the DGFF with zero boundary conditions outside a finite box in dimension larger or equal to 3. We show that the associated extremal process converges to a Poisson point process. The result follows from an application of the Stein-Chen method from Arratia et al. (1989).

Thick points for Gaussian free fields with different cut-offs

Massive and massless Gaussian free fields can be described as generalized Gaussian processes indexed by an appropriate space of functions. In this article we study various approaches to approximate these fields and look at the fractal properties of the thick points of their cut-offs. Under some sufficient conditions for a centered Gaussian process with logarithmic variance we study the set of thick points and derive their Hausdorff dimension. We prove that various cut-offs for Gaussian free fields satisfy these assumptions. We also give sufficient conditions for comparing thick points of different cut-offs.

Remarks on absolute continuity in the context of free probability and random matrices

In this note, we show that the limiting spectral distribution of symmetric random matrices with stationary entries is absolutely continuous under some sufficient conditions. This result is applied to obtain sufficient conditions on a probability measure for its free multiplicative convolution with the semicircle law to be absolutely continuous.

Inhomogeneous Long-Range Percolation for Real-Life Network Modeling

The study of random graphs has become very popular for real-life network modeling such as social networks or financial networks. Inhomogeneous long-range percolation (or scale-free percolation) on the lattice $\mathbb Z^d$, $d\ge1$, is a particular attractive example of a random graph model because it fulfills several stylized facts of real-life networks. For this model various geometric properties such as the percolation behavior, the degree distribution and graph distances have been analyzed. In the present paper we complement the picture about graph distances. Moreover, we prove continuity of the percolation probability in the phase transition point.

Maximum eigenvalue of symmetric random matrices with dependent heavy tailed entries

This paper deals with symmetric random matrices whose upper diagonal entries are obtained from a linear random field with heavy tailed noise. It is shown that the maximum eigenvalue and the spectral radius of such a random matrix with dependent entries converge to the Frechét distribution after appropriate scaling. This extends a seminal result of Soshnikov(2004) when the tail index is strictly less than one.

Thick points for a Gaussian Free Field in 4 dimensions

This article is concerned with the study of the fractal dimension of thick points for a 4-dimensional Gaussian Free Field. We adopt the definition of Gaussian Free Field on $\R^4$ introduced by Chen and Jakobson (2012) viewed as an abstract Wiener space with underlying Hilbert space $H^2(\R^4)$. We can prove that for $0\leq a \leq 4$ the Hausdorff dimension of the set of $a$-high points is $4-a$. We also show that the set of thick points gives full mass to the 4-dimensional Liouville Quantum Gravity measure.

Limiting spectral distribution for Wigner matrices with dependent entries

In this article we show the existence of limiting spectral distribution of a symmetric random matrix whose entries come from a stationary Gaussian process with covariances satisfying a summability condition. We provide an explicit description of the moments of the limiting measure. We also show that in some special cases the Gaussian assumption can be relaxed. The description of the limiting measure can also be made via its Stieltjes transform which is characterized as the solution of a functional equation. In two special cases, we get a description of the limiting measure - one as a free product convolution of two distributions, and the other one as a dilation of the Wigner semicircular law.
