Formalism of hydrodynamics with spin degrees of freedom

In this article we review the perfect-fluid hydrodynamics with spin framework proposed recently. This framework generalises the standard relativistic hydrodynamics framework to include spin degrees of freedom and provides a natural method to describe the spin polarization evolution of massive spin 1/2 particles. This formalism is based on the GLW (de Groot - van Leeuwen - van Weert) energy-momentum tensor and spin tensor. We show here using Bjorken model that how this spin hydrodynamics framework may be used for the determination of the observables which describes the particle polarization measured in the experiment.

Computer and Network Security

In the era of Internet of Things and with the explosive worldwide growth of electronic data volume, and associated need of processing, analysis and storage of such humongous volume of data, several new challenges are faced in protecting privacy of sensitive data and securing systems by designing novel schemes for secure authentication, integrity protection, encryption and non-repudiation. Lightweight symmetric key cryptography and adaptive network security algorithms are in demand for mitigating these challenges. This book presents some of the state-of-the-art research work in the field of cryptography and security in computing and communications. It is a valuable source of knowledge for researchers, engineers, practitioners, graduate and doctoral students who are working in the field of cryptography, network security and security and privacy issues in the Internet of Things (IoT), and machine learning application in security. It will also be useful for faculty members of graduate schools and universities.

Relativistic hydrodynamics for spin-polarized media

We summarize the key ingredients of the recently proposed formalism of relativistic perfect-fluid hydrodynamics with spin. Based on the underlying kinetic theory definitions for the equilibrium distribution functions we obtain the evolution equations governing the system's expansion. Employing Bjorken symmetry we study the spin polarization dynamics of the system.

Boost-invariant description of polarization within hydrodynamics with spin

We briefly review a recently proposed formalism of perfect-fluid hydrodynamics with spin, which is a generalization of the standard hydrodynamic framework and provides a natural tool for describing the evolution of spin-polarized systems of particles with spin 1/2. It is based on the de Groot - van Leeuwen - van Weert forms of energy-momentum and spin tensors and conservation laws. Using Bjorken symmetry we show how this formalism may be used to determine observables describing the polarization of particles measured in the experiment.

Controlled generation of genuine multipartite entanglement in Floquet Ising spin models

We propose a method for generation of genuine multipartite entangled states in a short-range Ising spin chain with periodic global pulses of magnetic field. We consider an integrable and a non-integrable Floquet system that are periodic in time and have constant quasi-energy gaps with degeneracies. We start with all spins polarized along one direction and show that they evolve into states with high entanglement by calculating the average entanglement entropy and geometric measure of entanglement. We show that some of these states have a high number of parties involved in the entanglement by calculating the quantum Fisher information. Such controlled generation of multipartite entanglement has potential applications in quantum information processing.

Lateral inhibition provides a unifying framework for spatiotemporal pattern formation in media comprising relaxation oscillators

The collective dynamics seen in a wide variety of chemical, biological and ecological systems involve interactions between relaxation oscillators that typically involve fast activation process coupled with a slower inactivation. In this paper, we show that systems of such oscillators having distinct kinetics governing local dynamical behavior and whose interactions are described by different connection topologies, can exhibit strikingly similar spatiotemporal patterns when diffusively coupled via their inactivation component. We explain the apparent universality of this global behavior by showing that relaxation oscillators interacting via lateral inhibition will generally yield two basic classes of patterns, viz., one comprising one or more clusters of synchronized oscillators while the other is a time-invariant spatially inhomogeneous state resulting from oscillation death. All observed collective states can be interpreted either as specific instances of these fundamental patterns or as resulting from their competition.

Spin polarization evolution in a boost invariant hydrodynamical background

Relativistic hydrodynamic equations for particles with spin one-half are used to determine the space-time evolution of the spin polarization in a boost-invariant and transversely homogeneous background. The hydrodynamic approach uses the forms of the energy-momentum and spin tensors based on de Groot, van Leeuwen, and van Weert formalism. Our calculations illustrate how the formalism of hydrodynamics with spin can be used to determine physical observables related to the spin polarization and how the latter can be compared with the experimental data.

Analytical solutions of inhomogeneous transverse field Ising models

The inhomogeneous transverse field Ising models mainly impurity based and the joint chain are analysed analytically using Jordan-Wigner transformations. The effects of inhomogeneities on the phase transition have been discussed in detail. We constructed an ansatz to diagonalize the two models which are taken into consideration. The inhomogeneity is quantified by a coupling parameter, which can be tuned to control the occurrence of quantum phase transition in these models. We have shown a systematic setup using which we can generalise the solution to a system with an arbitrary number of impurity sites and junctions, which are separated by at least two lattice sites. We have analysed the quantum critical point by calculating the correlation functions, transverse magnetization and the gap between the ground state and the first excited state.

Coexistence of surface and bulk state and negative magnetoresistance in Sulfur doped Bi2Se3

The magneto-transport properties in Sulfur doped Bi2Se3 are investigated. The magnetoresistance (MR) decreases with increase of S content and finally for 7% (i.e. y=0.21) S doping the magnetoresistance becomes negative. This negative MR is unusual as it is observed when magnetic field is applied with the perpendicular direction to the plane of the sample. The magneto-transport behavior shows the shubnikov-de hass (SdH) oscillation indicating the coexistence of both surface and bulk states. The negative MR has been attributed to the bulk conduction.

Bell violation in primordial cosmology

In this paper, we have worked on the possibility of setting up an Bell's inequality violating experiment in the context of primordial cosmology following the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics. To set up this proposal we have introduced a model independent theoretical framework using which we have studied the creation of new massive particles for the scalar fluctuations in the presence of additional time dependent mass parameter. Next we explicitly computed the one point and two point correlation functions from this setup. Then we comment on the measurement techniques of isospin breaking interactions of newly introduced massive particles and its further prospects. After that, we give an example of string theory originated axion monodromy model in this context. Finally, we provide a bound on the heavy particle mass parameter for any arbitrary spin field.

Effect of long-range hopping and interactions on entanglement dynamics and many-body localization

We numerically investigate the dynamics of entanglement in a chain of spinless fermions with nonrandom but long-range hopping and interactions, and with random on-site energies. For moderate disorder in the absence of interactions, the chain hosts delocalized states at the top of the band which undergo a delocalization-localization transition with increasing disorder. We find an interesting regime in this noninteracting disordered chain where the long-time entanglement entropy scales as $S(t) \sim \ln t$ and the saturated entanglement entropy scales with system size $L$ as $S(L,t \to {\infty}) \sim \ln L$. We further study the interplay of long-range hopping and interactions on the growth of entanglement and the many-body localization (MBL) transition in this system. We develop an analogy to higher-dimensional short-range systems to compare and contrast such behavior with the physics of MBL in a higher dimension.

Bell violation in the Sky

In this work, we have studied the possibility of setting up Bell's inequality violating experiment in the context of cosmology, based on the basic principles of quantum mechanics. First we start with the physical motivation of implementing the Bell's inequality violation in the context of cosmology. Then to set up the cosmological Bell violating test experiment we introduce a model independent theoretical framework using which we have studied the creation of new massive particles by implementing the WKB approximation method for the scalar fluctuations in presence of additional time dependent mass contribution. Next using the background scalar fluctuation in presence of new time dependent mass contribution, we explicitly compute the expression for the one point and two point correlation functions. Furthermore, using the results for one point function we introduce a new theoretical cosmological parameter which can be expressed in terms of the other known inflationary observables and can also be treated as a future theoretical probe to break the degeneracy amongst various models of inflation. Additionally, we also fix the scale of inflation in a model independent way without any prior knowledge of primordial gravitational waves. Next, we also comment on the technicalities of measurements from isospin breaking interactions and the future prospects of newly introduced massive particles in cosmological Bell violating test experiment. Further, we cite a precise example of this set up applicable in the context of string theory motivated axion monodromy model. Then we comment on the explicit role of decoherence effect and high spin on cosmological Bell violating test experiment. In fine, we provide a theoretical bound on the heavy particle mass parameter for scalar fields, graviton and other high spin fields from our proposed setup.

Localization due to interaction-enhanced disorder in bosonic systems

Localization in interacting systems caused by disorder, known as many-body localization (MBL), has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. Most systems studied in this context also show single-particle localization, and the question of MBL is whether the phenomena survives the effects of interactions. It is intriguing to consider a system with no single-particle localization but which does localize in the presence of many particles. The localization phenomena occurs "due to" rather than "in spite of" interactions in such systems. We consider a simple bosonic system and show that interactions enhance the effects of very weak disorder and result in localization when many particles are present. We provide physical insights into the mechanism involved and support our results with analytical and numerical calculations.

Geometry of the generalized Bloch sphere for qutrits

The geometry of the generalized Bloch sphere $Ω_3$, the state space of a qutrit, is studied. Closed form expressions for $Ω_3$, its boundary $\partial Ω_3$, and the set of extremals $Ω_3^{\rm ext}$ are obtained by use of an elementary observation. These expressions and analytic methods are used to classify the 28 two-sections and the 56 three-sections of $Ω_3$ into unitary equivalence classes, completing the works of earlier authors. It is shown, in particular, that there are families of two-sections and of three-sections which are equivalent geometrically but not unitarily, a feature that does not appear to have been appreciated earlier. A family of three-sections of obese-tetrahedral shape whose symmetry corresponds to the 24-element tetrahedral point group $T_d$ is examined in detail. This symmetry is traced to the natural reduction of the adjoint representation of $SU(3)$, the symmetry underlying $Ω_3$, into direct sum of the two-dimensional and the two (inequivalent) three-dimensional irreducible representations of $T_d$.

An almost convincing scheme for discriminating the preparation basis of quantum ensemble and why it will not work

Mixed states of a quantum system, represented by density operators, can be decomposed as a statistical mixture of pure states in a number of ways where each decomposition can be viewed as a different preparation recipe. However the fact that the density matrix contains full information about the ensemble makes it impossible to estimate the preparation basis for the quantum system. Here we present a measurement scheme to (seemingly) improve the performance of unsharp measurements. We argue that in some situations this scheme is capable of providing statistics from a single copy of the quantum system, thus making it possible to perform state tomography from a single copy. One of the byproduct of the scheme is a way to distinguish between different preparation methods used to prepare the state of the quantum system. However, our numerical simulations disagree with our intuitive predictions. We show that a counter-intuitive property of a biased classical random walk is responsible for the proposed mechanism not working.

Signatures of the many-body localization transition in the dynamics of entanglement and bipartite fluctuations

The many-body localization transition is a dynamical quantum phase transition between a localized and an extended phase. We study this transition in the XXZ model with disordered magnetic field and focus on the time evolution following a global quantum quench. While the dynamics of the bipartite entanglement and spin fluctuations are already known to provide insights into the nature of the many-body localized phases, we discuss the relevance of these quantities in the context of the localization transition. In particular, we observe that near the transition the long time limits of both quantities show behavior similar to divergent thermodynamic fluctuations.

Relative volume of separable bipartite states

Every choice of an orthonormal frame in the d-dimensional Hilbert space of a system corresponds to one set of all mutually commuting density matrices or, equivalently, a classical statistical state space of the system; the quantum state space itself can thus be profitably viewed as an SU(d) orbit of classical state spaces, one for each orthonormal frame. We exploit this connection to study the relative volume of separable states of a bipartite quantum system. While the two-qubit case is studied in considerable analytic detail, for higher dimensional systems we fall back on Monte Carlo. Several new insights seem to emerge from our study.

Probing Many-Body Localization by Spin Noise Spectroscopy

We propose to apply spin noise spectroscopy (SNS) to detect many-body localization (MBL) in disordered spin systems. The SNS methods are relatively non-invasive technique to probe spontaneous spin fluctuations. We here show that the spin noise signals obtained by cross-correlation SNS with two probe beams can be used to separate the MBL phase from a noninteracting Anderson localized phase and a delocalized (diffusive) phase in the studied models for which we numerically calculate real time spin noise signals and their power spectra. For the archetypical case of the disordered XXZ spin chain we also develop a simple phenomenological model.
