Dual To Ratio Cum Product Estimator In Stratified Random Sampling

Tracy et al.[8] have introduced a family of estimators using Srivenkataramana and Tracy ([6],[7]) transformation in simple random sampling. In this article, we have proposed a dual to ratio-cum-product estimator in stratified random sampling. The expressions of the mean square error of the proposed estimators are derived. Also, the theoretical findings are supported by a numerical example.

A Family Of Estimators Of Population Mean Using Information On Point Bi-Serial and Phi Correlation Coefficient

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the finite population mean when some information on two auxiliary attributes are available. It is shown that the proposed estimator is more efficient than the usual mean estimator and other existing estimators. The study is also extended to two-phase sampling. The results have been illustrated numerically by taking empirical population considered in the literature.

Exponential Ratio Type Estimators In Stratified Random Sampling

Kadilar and Cingi (2003) have introduced a family of estimators using auxiliary information in stratified random sampling. In this paper, we propose the ratio estimator for the estimation of population mean in the stratified random sampling by using the estimators in Bahl and Tuteja (1991) and Kadilar and Cingi (2003). Obtaining the mean square error (MSE) equations of the proposed estimators, we find theoretical conditions that the proposed estimators are more efficient than the other estimators. These theoretical findings are supported by a numerical example.

Unbiased Ratio-Type Estimator Using Transformed Auxiliary Variable In Negative Correlation Case

The objective of this paper is to propose an unbiased ratio-type estimator for finite population mean when the variables are negatively correlated. Hartley and Ross[2] and Singh and Singh [6] estimators are identified as particular cases of the proposed unbiased estimator. The variance expression of the proposed estimator to the first degree of approximation has been obtained. An empirical study is carried out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed estimator over, Robson [5] estimator and Singh and Singh [6] estimator.

Phase-plane analysis of driven multi-lane exclusion models

We show how a fixed point based boundary-layer analysis technique can be used to obtain the steady-state particle density profiles of driven exclusion processes on two-lane systems with open boundaries. We have considered two distinct two-lane systems. In the first, particles hop on the lanes in one direction obeying exclusion principle and there is no exchange of particles between the lanes. The hopping on one lane is affected by the particle occupancies on the other, which thereby introduces an indirect interaction among the lanes. Through a phase plane analysis of the boundary layer equation, we show why the bulk density undergoes a sharp change as the interaction between the lanes is increased. The second system involves one lane with driven exclusion process and the other with biased diffusion of particles. In contrast to the previous model, here there is a direct interaction between the lanes due to particle exchange between them. In this model, we have looked at two possible scenarios with constant (flat) and non-constant bulk profiles. The fixed point based boundary layer method provides a new perspective on several aspects including those related to maximal/minimal current phases, possibilities of shocks under very restricted boundary conditions for the flat profile but over a wide range of boundary conditions for the non-constant profile.

Ratio Estimators in Simple Random Sampling when Study Variable is an Attribute

In this paper we have suggested a family of estimators for the population mean when study variable itself is qualitative in nature. Expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of the suggested family have been obtained. An empirical study has been carried out to show the superiority of the constructed estimator over others.

Ratio Estimators in Simple Random Sampling Using Information on Auxiliary Attribute

Some ratio estimators for estimating the population mean of the variable under study, which make use of information regarding the population proportion possessing certain attribute, are proposed. Under simple random sampling without replacement (SRSWOR) scheme, the expressions of bias and mean-squared error (MSE) up to the first order of approximation are derived. The results obtained have been illustrated numerically by taking some empirical population considered in the literature.

Estimation of Mean in Presence of Non Response Using Exponential Estimator

This paper considers the problem of estimating the population mean using information on auxiliary variable in presence of non response. Exponential ratio and exponential product type estimators have been suggested and their properties are studied. An empirical study is carried out to support the theoretical results.

Thunderstorms, lightning, sprites and magnetospheric whistler-mode radio waves

Thunderstorms and the lightning that they produce are inherently interesting phenomena that have intrigued scientists and mankind in general for many years. The study of thunderstorms has rapidly advanced during the past century and many efforts have been made towards understanding lightning, thunderstorms and their consequences. Recent observations of optical phenomena above an active lightning discharge along with the availability of modern technology both for data collection and data analysis have renewed interest in the field of thunderstorms and their consequences in the biosphere. In this paper, we review the electrification processes of a thunderstorm, lightning processes and their association with global electric circuit and climate. The upward lightning discharge can cause sprites, elves, jets, etc. which are together called transient luminous events. Their morphological features and effects in the mesosphere are reviewed. The wide spectrum of electromagnetic waves generated during lightning discharges couple the lower atmosphere with the ionosphere/magnetosphere. Hence various features of these waves from ULF to VHF are reviewed with reference to recent results and their consequences are also briefly discussed.

Improvement in Estimating Population Mean using Two Auxiliary Variables in Two-Phase Sampling

This study proposes improved chain-ratio type estimator for estimating population mean using some known values of population parameter(s) of the second auxiliary character. The proposed estimators have been compared with two-phase ratio estimator and some other chain type estimators. The performances of the proposed estimators have been supposed with a numerical illustration.

A General Family of Estimators for Estimating Population Mean Using Known Value of Some Population Parameter(s)

A general family of estimators for estimating the population mean of the variable under study, which make use of known value of certain population parameter(s), is proposed. Under Simple Random Sampling Without Replacement (SRSWOR) scheme, the expressions of bias and mean-squared error (MSE) up to first order of approximation are derived. Some well known estimators have been shown as particular member of this family. An empirical study is carried out to illustrate the performance of the constructed estimator over others.

Empirical Study in Finite Correlation Coefficient in Two Phase Estimation

This paper proposes a class of estimators for population correlation coefficient when information about the population mean and population variance of one of the variables is not available but information about these parameters of another variable (auxiliary) is available, in two phase sampling and analyzes its properties. Optimum estimator in the class is identified with its variance formula. The estimators of the class involve unknown constants whose optimum values depend on unknown population parameters.
