Local and global Maass relations (expanded version)

We characterize the irreducible, admissible, spherical representations of GSp(4,F) (where F is a p-adic field) that occur in certain CAP representations in terms of relations satisfied by their spherical vector in a special Bessel model. These local relations are analogous to the Maass relations satisfied by the Fourier coefficients of Siegel modular forms of degree 2 in the image of the Saito-Kurokawa lifting. We show how the classical Maass relations can be deduced from the local relations in a representation theoretic way, without recourse to the construction of Saito-Kurokawa lifts in terms of Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight modular forms or Jacobi forms. As an additional application of our methods, we give a new characterization of Saito-Kurokawa lifts involving a certain average of Fourier coefficients.

Characterizations of the Saito-Kurokawa lifting: a survey

There are a variety of characterizations of Saito-Kurokawa lifts from elliptic modular forms to Siegel modular forms of degree 2. In addition to giving a survey of known characterizations, we apply a recent result of Weissauer to provide a number of new and simpler characterizations of Saito-Kurokawa lifts.

Yoshida lifts and simultaneous non-vanishing of dihedral twists of modular L-functions

Given elliptic modular forms f and g satisfying certain conditions on their weights and levels, we prove (a quantitative version of the statement) that there exist infinitely many imaginary quadratic fields K and characters chi of the ideal class group Cl_K such that L(1/2, f_K \times chi) \neq 0 and L(1/2, g_K \times chi) \neq 0. The proof is based on a non-vanishing result for Fourier coefficients of Siegel modular forms combined with the theory of Yoshida liftings.

Transfer of Siegel cusp forms of degree 2

Let $π$ be the automorphic representation of $\GSp_4(\A)$ generated by a full level cuspidal Siegel eigenform that is not a Saito-Kurokawa lift, and $τ$ be an arbitrary cuspidal, automorphic representation of $\GL_2(\A)$. Using Furusawa's integral representation for $\GSp_4\times\GL_2$ combined with a pullback formula involving the unitary group $\GU(3,3)$, we prove that the $L$-functions $L(s,π\timesτ)$ are "nice". The converse theorem of Cogdell and Piatetski-Shapiro then implies that such representations $π$ have a functorial lifting to a cuspidal representation of $\GL_4(\A)$. Combined with the exterior-square lifting of Kim, this also leads to a functorial lifting of $π$ to a cuspidal representation of $\GL_5(\A)$. As an application, we obtain analytic properties of various $L$-functions related to full level Siegel cusp forms. We also obtain special value results for $\GSp_4\times\GL_1$ and $\GSp_4\times\GL_2$.

Testing the functional equations of a high-degree Euler product

We study the L-functions associated to Siegel modular forms (equivalently, automorphic representations of ${\rm GSp}(4,\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$) both theoretically and numerically. For the L-functions of degrees 10, 14, and 16 we perform representation theoretic calculations to cast the Langlands L-function in classical terms. We develop a precise notion of what it means to test a conjectured functional equation for an L-function, and we apply this to the degree 10 adjoint L-function associated to a Siegel modular form.

Integral representation for L-functions for GSp(4) x GL(2), II

Based on Furusawa's theory, we present an integral representation for the L-function L(s,π\times τ), where πis a cuspidal automorphic representation on GSp(4) related to a holomorphic Siegel modular form, and where τis an arbitrary cuspidal automorphic representation on GL(2). As an application, a special value result for this L-function in the spirit of Deligne's conjecture is proved.

Bessel models for lowest weight representations of GSp(4,R)

We prove uniqueness and give precise criteria for existence of split and non-split Bessel models for a class of lowest and highest weight representations of the groups GSp(4,R) and Sp(4,R) including all holomorphic and anti-holomorphic discrete series representations. Explicit formulas for the resulting Bessel functions are obtained by solving systems of differential equations. The formulas are applied to derive an integral representation for a global $L$-function on GSp(4)xGL(2) involving a vector-valued Siegel modular form of degree 2.

L-functions for GSp(4)xGL(2)in the case of high GL(2) conductor

Furusawa has given an integral representation for the degree 8 L-function of GSp(4) x GL(2) and has carried out the unramified calculation. The local p-adic zeta integrals were calculated in our earlier work under the assumption that the GSp(4) representation πis unramified and the GL(2) representation τhas conductor p. In the present work we generalize to the case where the GL(2) representation has arbitrarily high conductor. The result is that the zeta integral represents the local Euler factor L(s,π\times τ) in all cases. As a global application we obtain a special value result for a GSp(4) x GL(2) global L-function coming from classical holomorphic cusp forms with arbitrarily high level for the elliptic modular form.

Integral Representaion for L-functions for GSp(4)xGL(2)

Let pi be a cuspidal, automorphic representation of GSp(4) attached to a Siegel modular form of degree 2. We refine the method of Furusawa to obtain an integral representation for the degree-8 L-function L(s,pi x tau), where tau runs through certain cuspidal, automorphic representation of GL(2). Our calculations include the case of square-free level for the p-adic components of tau, and a wide class of archimedean types including Maass forms. As an application we obtain a special value result for L(s,pi x tau).

On the adjoint L-function of the p-adic GSp(4)

We explicitly compute the adjoint L-function of those L-packets of representations of the group GSp(4) over a p-adic field of characteristic zero that contain non-supercuspidal representations. As an application we verify a conjecture of Gross-Prasad and Rallis in this case. The conjecture states that the adjoint L-function has a pole at s=1 if and only if the L-packet contains a generic representation.
